Great, now that I'm heavily invested in paper shredders THIS comes along... Well, I guess I'll be OK until the banks finish screwing us all, they will need the shredders for old stuff like evidence of wrong doing.
The mint condition thing is what separates collectors from people that save everything (i.e. severe OCD)... not that collectors don't get obsessive. As for the:
"how much can I fleece a clueless schlub for?"
How dare you denigrate the Congressional Credo! ;^)
This sort of story isn't helping with changing perception of geeks, is it?
Should geeks really care about how people perceive them? If that were the case I would think we would be going out of our way to not be seen as geeks in the first place. When you are lucky enough to find something that is a delight, rejoice in it and screw what people think...
That's it. You don't need to restart anything or reboot the machine. From now on you will not only be unable to run iexplore.exe as whenever you try to do it the file ExecBlocked.log will get the attempt to execute recorded with the date/time information.
To enable the process the run again, simply remove the registry key.
The beauty is that there is no path, so even if the user does an alternate install it catches the name of the EXE (in the example "iexplore.exe").

You might be able to get one last gasp by putting the drive in a freezer, but that's it.
I've pulled off a few magic tricks with dry ice, but you have to watch out for condensation. A block of dry ice on the top and bottom of the drive and leave it in the freezer until it is really cold. Hook it up, keep it wrapped in a towel and HURRY!
Actually, everyone out here has guns. And in this state you can wear them casually in most situations as long as they are visible. Concealed permits are not difficult to obtain, if you don't want to spoil your fashion look with a holster. Sawed Off shotguns are a dumb weapon, the effective range is far too small and the cycle rate too slow... why let someone get that close to you and then screw up a bunch of your own drywall and paint?
Here they got to the point of stealing copper, that's got a few of them fried... tip, if the wires are on a power pole, you might want to go steal something else.
I can tell you that having lived in the sticks for years (avg roughly 1 home per sq. mile) that we crank up the high powered yard lights. In the good old days it was the frosty white of mercury vapor, but they blocked the sale of those so now you see the golden glow of sodium lights... on at dusk on off at dawn. Sadly, it's necessary to keep the tweaks from taking everything that is not nailed down.
Just because he's a Republican you gotta take a shot at their Governor? He does not speak very well, but I don't think it's an intellect problem... Anyway, He'll Be Back! (sorry).
Sorry, it was RAID 1. The spare dropped in when something happened to one of the other drives, worked nicely and the array is what saved the files... steam and soot is not a good component coating.
AND not at the same location. I just pulled files off of a small business file server (RAID 0 with an automatic spare HD) that was sooty and water stained... where were the backups, on top of the server, of course. Big help when the building burned down.
Google got heat a few years ago for its Google News aggregation of headlines and summaries and settled a copyright lawsuit with Agence France-Presse last year. Google also is paying the Associated Press to use its content on Google News.
When you settle, you normally pay and promise to either NOT do it again or to pay for whatever you use.
I would imagine a place like Cheyenne Mountain has the equipment and personal to keep an exit open... or blast a new one. I also wonder how many places exist that don't have the reputation of the NORAD Operations Center, but still have the survivability requirements.
But this was human civilization from 75,000 years ago, which intellectually and technologically pales in comparison to human civilization today. Wouldn't the advancements we've made since the Toba eruption help us to endure the effect of another mega-eruption?
I think most of our advances would be the first casualties. The amount of fine ash (powered glass-like substance) would ruin many of the things we depend on, like power generation, plumbing and sanitation, food distribution... all gone for a considerable period. It may be impossible to grow crops for several seasons due to acid contamination, there is a lot of sulfur in the type of magma under Yellowstone.
As a race, we might survive in bunkers if they still exist... sadly the people that will have access to those facilities are not the people I would want to repopulate the world with... not the "fittest" genetically or even mentally, just the ones with political clout. Carpenters, farmers, doctors and paramedics are some of the people I would want to see survive, raising the odds for the species a bit.
Not to mention that everything we have discovered and invented so far has been at the bottom of a gravity well. I think many exciting things will be revealed when we can do heavy R&D in zero g...
Plus the fact that if we don't get off this mud ball we will eventually find a way to end ourselves
as a species.
In this case feeding the troll helps actual discourse.
That's your basic "everyone is fair and balanced in the own mind". You could sell tolerance at a Klan rally, as long as you let them define tolerance...
I was thinking the same thing while driving around last week. Parking lots packed, lots of hustle and bustle. I do know people that are slowed down, construction types mostly, but the mid sized town I live in seems to be rolling along OK. I'm sure there are places where the local economy is tied to one or two types of industry and things are bad for those industries, but I'm just not seeing what the news is trying to sell me... not that they would ever lie to me...
If it spins horizontally, won't it be fighting the rotation of the earth... always turning a corner so to speak. So we build a bunch of them, then the Global Slowing crowd forms and someone makes a movie no one is ever allowed to spin anything without permission from the Rotational Protection Agency... Leave them up on edge and let the chips fall where they may.
The feckless youth I see texting in public do not appear to be the sort who employ reason or critical faculties. That's the kind of customer base dreams are made of.
I'm sure they would change if we could just get them some FECK. Won't someone think of the future... Feck Youth!
I don't work at a bank but it seems that the more products you offer, the more you can sell. Capitalization of a plant or store inventory is a totally different need when compared to short term needs like seasonal build up or payroll. Why borrow payroll? If I have x dollars invested and pulling down a good rate of return, it would be better to keep it there and borrow short term if the rate is the same or lower. Also, loans have bookkeeping advantages (assuming the company is solvent and not doing a shell game). And yes, it does create jobs for people selling loan products. But those people also spend the money they make and everyone gets a little piece of that (carpenters, grocers, car sales, etc..) so all in all it is not a bad thing. But it can be abused, shell games can be played, investors can be conned. And in any case, if you don't have the wherewithal to attain your goals, you will have to play some of the game, how deep you go depends on your needs.

put it in a space ship
Those are such a bitch to park at the supermarket... plus MIB will show up wanting to see papers and whatnot.

This works great if you have someone that keeps installing or running something you don't want them to... IE for instance.
/c echo %time% %date% >> c:\ExecBlocked.log"
Note the SZ value is what is inside the quotes...
1. Create a registry key with the name of the process you want to prevent to execute. Ex.: iexplore.exe
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\iexplore.exe
2. Under this new key you've just created, create a SZ value called "Debugger" and set it to the following value:
SZ Debugger = "cmd.exe
That's it. You don't need to restart anything or reboot the machine. From now on you will not only be unable to run iexplore.exe as whenever you try to do it the file ExecBlocked.log will get the attempt to execute recorded with the date/time information.
To enable the process the run again, simply remove the registry key.

As to the DoD, here is what they want done with unclassified hard drives http://www.drms.dla.mil/turn-in/asdhddispmemo060401.pdf
