Think of it more as a kid moving out of their parent's house at the age of 22 and saying that they still love their parents. The US was more of a 5 year old leaving home against the parents will while flipping them the bird.
Personally I see the CRTC as the same as Quebec's Language Police but on a grander scale: trying to keep Canadian Culture (for whatever that is) alive, when it's pretty much a known fact that culture is a living breathing thing and no matter what you do you can't stop it from evolving.
My guess is they went the way they did was that it is a one time modification to the database to mark it as purchased. If a new person comes on they don't get the album free. Setting it to $0 for only existing users would be probably more difficult. I understand what they did but I think it kind of backfired for them.
Canada does trade with Cuba and it is a popular vacation site as it is usually more affordable than other island retreats. Some Canadians go there as it also has a more limited selection of holiday-goers (read between the lines). That said americans are going there by flying up to Canada and then flying out. The Cuban customs won't stamp their passports but will very willingly take their tourist money.
Not only that but a company that lets someone do that is shooting themself in the foot. Sooner or later 80 hour a week guy is going to leave, good luck getting someone that is A: willing to do it coming in B: not taking the job until something better comes along.
It's not a badge of honor, just an example of rationalization for a crappy job.
Which given enough time will do absolutely zero for accidents. The problem isn't the handsfree, it is the fact you have someone paying more attention to what is being said on the other side of the phone call than actually what is happening around them. Driving should take up 100% of your attention.
Hobby built implies that you find someone with the talent and expertise to do the required fabrication. 3d Printed implies you find someone who can work a mouse and download a plan from a website.
Interesting thought though would be that if you have a content provider who is also your ISP, could that be considered monopolistic similar to what Microsoft went through with IE being included with the OS?
They were treated like fashion accessories but not as much anymore. Apple has been its own worst enemy, they were so popular everyone and their grandmother has one so instead of being a fashion accessory they are becoming commonplace like zippers (expensive ass zippers). Ditto with Android.
Actually I think they are right. I don't wear a watch anymore as I have my smartphone. However if I was going to start wearing a watch it would be more like jewelry and fancy-schmancy.
BTW I still have a corded phone. Works well in a power outage/minor disaster (aka ice storm 99/Eastcoast blackout). I rarely use it but better to have and not need than to need and not have.
Strange, the first time you log on there is supposed to be a quick tutorial showing the hover features. I decided when I built my new computer to jump to 8.1. I wouldn't have jumped to 8 though but I have to say it's fine once you get used to the changes. I do admit some of the changes left me scratching my head but I am sure if moving to another OS I would have gone through the same familiarization. With that in mind, I could see this being a point where people choose to move elsewhere since it's almost the same learning curve.
None of his revelations were surprising. Granted there are probably some that got sadistic glee in doing the job but I am sure most are in it for a paycheck.
