SLR's have one strong advantage over your typical PHD (push here, dummy) camera......speed. The biggest complaint I hear from most people is that when something is happening, it takes too long for their camera to turn-on / focus / take the picture. Granted, lugging around a hefty SLR (not to mention a bevy of lenses) is not for travelling, but for certain shots, it's almost impossible to get them with a small camera. I now point people to www.imagaing-resource.com to read some in-depth camera reviews and for them to pay close attention to the lag speeds in the details section when asked what camera to get.
My "travelling" camera is the Panasonic DMC-FZ7 (this link is to the newer model, the FZ8: http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/FZ8/FZ8A.HTM). Tons of great features and a pretty fast camera. It's not small enough for a shirt pocket, but it's not as large as my SLR.

Other than a few instances where you needed specifc skills to pass a barrier, you could pretty much load up on distance fighters and healers.....set the healers to auto heal and send in the guns.....very boring.....no sense of freedom. Even the side quests were pretty much "along the way". DSII got a little better where you had to keep going back to some key cities, but even then, mostly linear, forward moving.
Any program that includes more functionality than this: http://www.frontiernet.net/~fys/reboot.htm is just a waste of your time.....and even this version is bloated because it "plays nice" and tries to work on multiple platforms.
Actually, if you apply logic to the wager, you would choose a Christ based religion (including Catholic, Islamic, and Protestant). Before you instantly flame me, hear me out as to why these are the two obvious choices:
If you choose a reincarnation religion and are right, good for you, you move up the ladder. If you are wrong, you are going to Hell. On the flip side, anyone who chooses a different religion will either have been a good person because of their belief system and have a similar shot of moving up the ladder or will get a do-over in their next life. Religions where you have to be born into it are pretty much a choose NOT to partake. You can't really choose to be part of it. If they are right, well, you didn't have a chance anyway. Religions based on "just being decent human beings" are freebies as long as you follow the Christian faith that you believe.
You can go on and on comparing pretty much any religion you want and the consequences of being Christian is usually one of "no big deal" compared to being a non-Christian in a Christ based religion. Now, which Christ based religion? Well, that's a flame-war that will never finish.
Anything that is written as a Law (as opposed to a Theory) is a basis for faith.
1 + 1 = 2 is a fundamental piece. If anyone ever proved otherwise (without using trickery and faulty logic), then all maths and all sciences would need to be reevaluated. What about Netwon's laws? An object in motion will stay in motion unless acted upon by an outside force -- maybe we just haven't waited long enough.....maybe there is a factor of time that wasn't written in to the law.
We accept these things as truth (on faith) because we have never proven otherwise and don't expect to ever prove otherwise. But who says that we won't eventually? I believe there are several equations that needed fudge factors added to them once we started understanding really big and really small things.....sure it works at the human level, but those atoms sure are pesky. That is the faith part of science.
Eureka! I searched and I searched. I looked and I looked. I took many derivatives and integrations and after much research.......I found the equation you are looking for.....
Sites like YouTube, etc. like using Flash because it's harder for someone to just grab the video source. If you use a video tag, the source file has to be available -- which means it can be downloaded. Throw in a Flash wrapper and you get a version of copy protection. Not likely anyone making money off of their content is going to opt for the one when opting for the other gives them a little bit more protection (no matter how convenient it makes it for their customers). It isn't DRM, but it's DRM.
Layne
P.S. Yes, I know there are ways to grab the stream and make a copy, but it's harder to do than just "right-click / save-as".
Apparently you haven't lived in the south much. I know plenty of redneck hicks that would pronounce it sig-ni-chure and half of them would probably spell it that way.......how many of them are smart enough to be programmers is up to debate, but based on some of the contractors that have been sent to us that we wind up rejecting, I wouldn't be surprised if it was twice what should be......
Another way to increase your standing is to invent pages of content noone would ever go to (Xpi - a specific hovercraft model) or to just make small grammatical shifts so that your updated content ages while someone more reliable loses credibility.
Or maybe the universe is spherical but with a much larger radius than we ever expected......two points, close together on the surface of a rather large sphrerical object would have almost parallel paths to that center.......
I think I'll wait for the stable version of Redshift before I install it on any machine I care about.....0.20 is too early of an alpha to play around with.
And you can't access it from more than one machine, either. Since the files are placed on the computer physically and most Slashdot reader have more than one machine (I'm willing to bet), if you access your coupons from machine A and then from machine B, you've just circumvented the protection to be able to print more than one copy.
Oh, and you probably can't use Linux any more, either. Since the files are placed in the registry somewhere......
I think the major innovation in gaming these days is in how best to combine genres successfully (emphasis on successfully). There are several "classic" genres in gaming, but more and more often, you are finding games that tap into more than one of these. Psychonauts and several others (Tomb Raider, Prince of Persia, etc.) have combined the Adventure and the Action (sub-genre: Platformers) genres together to make great games. I think in order for Adventure games to make a resurgance, they need to incorporate some aspect of another genre in order to appeal to more people - and thus appeal to the game makers.
On a related note, here is an excerpt from a gaming class assignment that I did a couple of years back that is related to the current discussion: (3) Adventure games have declined in popularity in the last 10 years. Why do you think this has, happened? What would you change about the content or structure in adventure games to incite new interest in this genre?
Adventure games have not taxed the available hardware in the past few years. There have still been some that have been made (the latest Tomb Raider Legends has some adventure gaming aspects). I think that game designers have gotten away from the story telling mode. Games such as RTS and FPS games rely more on gameplay and less on story. Producing these types of games in mass numbers as they have recently has inhibited their ability to tell engaging stories. Even MMORPG games focus less on story telling. If adventure game are to have any sort of resurgence, I think that game designers need to work with authors to develop their story telling skills.
My all-time favorite games have infinite replayability (and can be played alone). NetHack, Civilization, Master of Magic, and Pirates. It's nice to be able to fire up those old games and play them whenever the urge hits me. Some of the other games I like are harder to play over again because I either need others to make it fun or it's just repetetive once you've beaten it a few times (Maniac Mansion and Monkey Island are great, but it really kills it when you already know the story).
I always hated when I started graphing in the wrong spot and ran off the edge of the page......that's when I found a deskpad of graph paper.....that rocked! Oh, and when those passages turned in the middle, GRRRRR.

And generally, I'll only click those once. If you ad is all Flash happy, well, that's a sure fire way for me to *NOT* click it.
And yes, I know that I can block ads, but that only applies when I have control over the configuration of the machine. And, that isn't always the case.....so, yes, I see ads (typing this as some splunk banner is animating across the top of my screen - no clue what splunk is and won't click it to find out).
