  1. The "RIAA" on RIAA Sues Stroke Victim in Michigan · · Score: 5, Insightful

The more I hear "RIAA" the more I wonder what it's really for. It seems like whenever stuff like this happens, we say the RIAA is suing a stroke victim. The RIAA sues dead people. It seems like the RIAA is doing a great job redirecting all of the bad press for this campaign. To me it looks like Warner is suing this guy, not the RIAA. Let's at least identify who is calling the shots here. Maybe if more people heard about Warner's actions, they would buy CDs from other record labels. (Yes, I know other labels sue people just as much, but it'd be nice if there was some bad press to come with stuff like suing disabled people.)

This is an interesting tactic. My guess is because the RIAA had no idea who he was in the first place, only having his IP address/LimeWire username/whatever. Rather than subpoena the student's information from the school, try to con them into confessing! What a great idea.

Ja, Canada is always looking for educated immigrants because of our demographics issues. I have read that 3 in 10 people in Canada are of German ancestry. Ich lerne Deutsch an die Universität. Sehr gut!

  4. Use the money for something else... on Pirate Bay to Purchase Sealand? · · Score: 1

Normally I love solutions like this (extreme overkill), but I think there's a better way to do this.

Instead of buying a country, why not use the money to fund an international lobby group to fight DRM and media controls and advocate for freer copyright law worldwide?

The RIAA/MPAA are getting these laws passed because they have the money to make it happen, and worst of all, it comes from us. It's time to fight fire with fire.

To all who are considering a donation: please consider donating to the EFF. They are the ones who are truly standing up for freedom on the Internet. I'm not trying to take anything away from TPB, I think it takes a lot of cojones to fight the fight like they are doing, but there are much easier ways to fight back than owning your own internationally unrecognized nation.

  6. The Deutscher and the Dane on Scientists Biographies for 5th and 6th Graders? · · Score: 1

A couple very interesting scientists for students to read about:

Niels Bohr was a Danish scientist who studied atoms and quantum physics. He contributed to the Manhattan Project after fleeing Denmark under Nazi occupation (was of Jewish ancestry).

Werner Heisenberg was a German physicist, friend of Bohr (for a while) and a founder of quantum physics. He was initially slandered for writing theories that the Nazis did not approve of, but later became useful in assisting in the development of nuclear warfare.

These two men would be very interesting biography reads. Not only are their contributions to science immesurable, the political aspects of their lives make it very interesting to read.
