  1. Wonderful on OLPC Says No Plans for Consumer Release · · Score: 1

I think that selling these to consumers would be a step in the right direction. No offense, but not too many 3rd world nations will buy all 1 million, is it?, laptops to give to the children. If they sell them on the open market though, parents can afford computer for there children to play and learn with. School Districts may be able to use them in class rooms for children, to replace traditional books, and reduce the cost of books.

  2. Security.. on What Live CDs Do You Carry Around? · · Score: 1

I'm not going to lie... I have a CD Case Like yours, small that I use for LiveCD's. Most of My CD's are Security Distro's Suck as Whax or knoppix-STD. The reason I have so many is because in my travels I come across many types of laptops and computer and some of the base distro's work better with certain hardware.

  3. Unfair on Blizzard Lawyers Visit Creator of WoW Glider · · Score: 1

I do believe that it is unfair for bot's to be used. yes, it does underlie the flaw that this game is repetitive, but it still violates the TOS that you agree to when you play the game. No matter if you feel that using the bot is right or wrong, you have broken a legally binding contract that you informally made with the creators(suppliers), so yes, you should be punished. It is not fair to the ones who can barely pay the $15 a month to play to only have someone who has more money to pay for other services to be better. In all honesty, it cheapens the game to know that everything someone who has played 1000 hours on can just be achieved in 10 hours by a bot. It's almost like buying a new game, just to use the cheats to get to the end.

First The story about firefox now the one about ubuntu? I'm using both currently and I'll tell you that I am having problems with the new firefox, bad memory leakage, and with the ubuntu upgrade, VTing won't work. You have to wonder how this will affect the OSS community if some of the greatest software they have is being rushed and not hair-splittingly looked over for bugs.

  5. Linux? on Securing a High School Windows XP Computer Lab? · · Score: 1

Why Not Try Linux? What Do they need to use the computer for specifically? Linux Will work with most of the printers in your school, especially Ubuntu, and they would be easy to lock down.

  6. It All... on How Warcraft Doesn't Have To Wreck Lives · · Score: 1

It All comes down to self control. I just broke into WoW and can say I'm addicted, but I know when enough is enough. If I have a test tomorrow, I know to study for it. It is like saying that Violent Video Games Cause Violence, Only if you don't have enough self control, and that means the 95% of us who have the self control should suffer? It's is unjust, unfair, and above all stupid to blame the actions of a game on the downfall of your life. In the end, you are ultimately responsible for what you do, no one else is to blame. Like me for instance, i just made a rant, So I am responsible for it's actions *steps off soap box* :)

  7. Limits... on New Copy Protection to Make Playing DVDs on a PC Difficult · · Score: 1

Come on. I understand they are "losing money" because of pirating, but jeez. First windows is not allowing old formatted music on the players due to there own weak DRM's. Then they are putting all the WGA crap, and now we can't even watch DVD's on our computers? That screams of robbery. I mean soon we will only be able to do 1 function with our computer, On and off... :P... But I have to wonder, what about linux?

Is anyone else concerned that we are creating a black hole on our planet? I mean sure they say we can control it, but what happens if we can't, or something goes wrong? Then we have to problem on this balck hole eating everything in it's path. I'm no physist, or anything like that, but I do know that messing with black holes on the one inhabitable planet we know of is probably not the greatest idea. Just in my opinion, I understand the scientific research and how advanced this is, but something is unsound here.

  10. Apples And Oranges. on Harvard Concludes Linux Will Remain Second Best · · Score: 1

Why are we still having this debate? Look, I love linux, with a passion, but yes, it will always be second best, why's that, because it's free, clean and simple. Microsoft has to make a product that people want to pay for, so they have to make it work and be worth while, but linux, it's free, so it doesn't have to sell, it just has to work. Let's face it, not too many people would really think about paying for linux, but we all pay for Windows because it's worth(or at least is justified) for the price. I have a laptop right now that isn't properly supported by linux, so it loses about an hour's battery life, which defeat's the purpose of getting a Centrino, but it all works fine under windows. The difference their is I paid for the windows support, but I can still use linux, which doesn't wholistically work, for free. It's that simple.

  11. What About the parents? on FTC Fines Xanga for Violating Kids' Privacy · · Score: 1

  12. Good console. on Nintendo Reconfirms Wii Shipments · · Score: 4, Insightful

I really think Wii is shaping up to be a good console, granted it will not be the next Xbox 360, but honestly, I think the uniquness of it will be it's selling point. I think they may have filled some of the features of the controller and glove to show more dramatic effects, but it still is very new and unique. The Price may not have been announced, but honestly, they have said before that it would be cheap, so we can expect hopefully less then $200 U.S. which would make it a big seller for christmas. In my god honest opinion, the problem with MS and Sony is they are trying to cram too much power too quickly, so all the new Xbox games look great, but from what i hear, they are a lot shorter then the standard game, or have less fetures. But we know the Wii will never compare to the Xbox or sony, and I say good, this will mean we will see more user oriented games, rather then computer oriented games.

  13. Win32? on OpenGL Distilled · · Score: 1

I like OpenGL, but my one problems is the lack of ease it gives for Win32 Programmers. I know it is cross-platform, but to program a opengl app in linux and win32 are totally different, so what's the point in developing a OpenGL app if the audience you intent on targeting is small(I.E. Linux)? Why not just setup for MS's DirectX which will obviousally win your apps much more support.
