Major en Physics, and Philosophy. Minor on art and programming.
Before the Industrial revolution, Philosophy and Arts were the top topics to learn. The idea is that first you need to understand what living is about (Philosophy) and you need to be able to appreciate beauty.
Industrial Revolution needed people to be able to read and perform task, thats why it got replaced by Math and Language.
Keep the basics, Philosophy (to understand what life is about), Physics (in case of desperation), art (minor in art, to be able to appreciate beauty), and programming (with special focus on basic compute theory), so you have a good foundation on how to take advantage of the more advanced technologies that might appear.
I read it two times, first in English and second time in Spanish. If your first language is Spanish I recommend this way to read it. The Spanish version has a lot of extra information that Douglas added for translation simplicity, and it makes things a lot more clear.
Take quantum leap. Usually is used to signal a big advance. Physically a quantum leap is the smallest advance possible. When an electron jump to a higher position.
I lilve in Buenos Aires, usually 90% humidity. What we did the passed summer we used our swimming pool for cooling. We simply put a fan coil that used the swimming pool water. Simple, cheap and efficient.
The number 1 reason a woman leaves a mariage is because she feels his husband has no ambition, or no clear roadmap up. When this happens, it only shows you that she didn't ever loved you. I agree with eulernet, you saved your life. You really have to do what you love, for the good of all of us, you will be more productive to the world if you do what you love.
Actually the Flash Crash was even worse. After HFTs lost a lot of money, they manage to get all the transactions reverse. So this is not a market at all. If they win they keep the money, if they loose they also keep the money. This is plain and simple stealing.

They need to add a benchmark for BirCoin, since it makes a lot of the market of high end graphic card buyers, and AMD is way faster per Whatt than Nvidia.
Although I believe that copyright is a good thing when done correctly, I also believe that today copyright is impeding new developments and is impacting negatively the human specie. What I would like to see is for this project is to first develop a hedge software, so it can fund itself to a very large intent, and then to use all that money to lobby US Government to fix Copyright law. Only after that, it makes sense to pursue other projects. Otherwise they will be killed by patent trolls.
When the PentiumPro came along (the first P6 processor) it used internal RISC architecture, and all Intel x86 cores from that time to today stilldecode the x86 instructions in what intel calls r-ops (risc operations) and then it processes them.
Nevertheless the part where Intel says "The days of IT organizations being forced to deploy expensive, closed RISC architectures" it is a lie. You can get the UltraSPARC-T2 Verilog code to make those chips yourself and hte code is GPL. You can't do that with any Intel processor. So Intel processors are the really "closed" processor. It is true that RISC processor are more expensive, but it has nothing to do with "closed"
The solution is to have a better unemployed life. Although I'm not a big fan of giing money. I would only give enough money to buy food, and will also give access to state owned free housing (really small, but well build if possible), free scholarship and free medical aid. The money for unemployment should only cover food, all other things (utilities, school, medic and even housing) should be given by the goverment without that money going through the unemployed person. That way he will have enough money to live, and a lot of time to get trained and look for a new job. We need to find a new way to distribute money, and of course we need to charge more taxes. Although I prefer to have only a single tax item (higher sales tax), to avoid the tax season stress. I prefer sales tax becouse it promotes the reduction of innecesarry spending, which in the short term might dminish spending, but in the long term it will help to take care of the planet. Income tax is recesive, the best way to avoid income tax is to not earn any money, thus diminishing the economical growth.
One big thing that tablet has is that they charge through USB (I haven't found any x86 netbook that you can charge using an USB port). The big problem with tablet is the virtual keyboard. I use an iPad. To consume media is great, to type is painfully slow compared to a full size keyboard.
I don't own any tablet, although I would love too own one, or an iPod Touch. The biggest advantage of the iPad over netbooks is that they charge over USB and the battery last a lot longer. If I can get a Windows netbook (I have a lot of Windows only apps from the company I work for) that have 30 hours battery and can charge over USB, I would gladly pay 500 USD.
I'm really happy for your life. I really would like to have the same kind of work you do, but there is a limited supply of that kind of work. If we all work like you, there wouldn't be any one to get my BigMac, nor to get my money on the banks, etc. Nevertheless, I'm aiming at your kind of work. One more thing, "The total separation of work and personal" might be a good choice to some, but to others there is no choice. Work is whatever you have to do to get from nature the things you need to keep on living.
It's been for a couple of years now that IBM is no longer the company that files more patent request. Finally China has happenned and Huawei has surpassed IBM in 2008 and 2009.
Goodbye US, you have been beaten at your own game.

My 2 cents.
Since they invested in balloon, it seems it is far cheaper. And they can control the trajectory using this method https://smartech.gatech.edu/bi...
This is way old, but can be usefull to help Google control their balloons. http://www.gaerospace.com/proj...
