So have I, including being willing to spend about 5 days and a not-insignificant amount of money to travel from Ohio to California by rail. Which I consider to be a small price to pay for not having my rights trampled.
It seems like a common theme lately. "If you don't like foo don't participate" Well NOT flying isn't the way to stop the TSA. There are too many people flying. What is worse, is TSA's mandate actually covers more than airlines, they also include Rails. What will you do when they start doing the same thing at the rail station? The time to fight is now.
Unfortunately "Don't Fly" isn't really an option. And that is the crux of the matter. People aren't flying because they LIKE a free rectal exam. They do it because it is faster than the alternative.
But they can't. Seriously. It is illegal now. In Texas, it is a state jail crime. (I am sure in other states too, but I do not know all the laws.) The FaceBook TOS forbids sharing passwords, and using another password is "accessing a computer or system without the express permission of the owner" and put both the user and the employer in violation of the Texas hacking statute.
Uhm, how?
You gave them the password, so the employer is not accessing a computer without express permission of the owner. I'm not sure how you put the owner in violation of that law. And the employer is not in violation of the TOS since they are a part of it. You are in violation of the TOS. So Facebook can delete your account.
How is this illegal again?
It also isn't illegal for them to ask for your race, sex, blah blah blah.
I'm not saying it is right. And I won't give my password. But it isn't illegal.
Holy cow, didn't we JUST cover this? It is NOT ILLEGAL to ask a prospective questions. You can ask them pretty much anything. BUT if you do ask them questions concerning race, religion, age, sex, and a few other things, and you don't hire them. You open yourself up to a lawsuit. So rather than risk it, it is recommended you don't ask these sort of questions.
Of course it makes it difficult sometimes. We were told not to ask where someone lived (could indicate living situation as in living in the poor part of town. But when I used to walk a candidate back to my office, I used to talk about the weather. And I liked to know where they lived, so I could compare our weather to what they are used to.
BUT IT IS NOT ILLEGAL! Just strongly recommended you don't ask certain questions.
That said expulsion might seem a bit harsh, but we really don't know what else this kid has done or not done.
This.
I don't fucking care what else he has done. You don't expel a student for speaking his mind. If he did other things, then expel him for those other things.
You are darn fucking tootin it is protected speech. Wow, profanity is pretty much the definition of EXPRESSION. I might not be using high falutin words to express something, but I sure am expressing it.
B) The student and his parents almost certainly signed an Acceptable Use Policy prohibiting profanity before being granted access to school systems.
Yeah lets teach our kids to not be free to express themselves.
We should be teaching kids it isn't proper to be using profanity all the time. And they should get an F if they turn that English paper in with profanity. But fuck man, don't be such a tight ass.
Whis is this: why the fuck should a kid be expelled from school, for tweeting a single profane utterance, on accident
I would ask "why the fuck was the kid expelled for using a swear word." Accident, twitter, or otherwise. AND why the fuck was the school monitoring this kid's twitter feed?
Well if it was easy to OCR the picture, it would not be an effective CAPTCHA. Cause that sort of defeats the purpose, doesn't it.
Who is asking who to panic? What are you going to panic about?
And put your house number in Roman Numerals. Nothing like living in number CLXXIV to screw up the recaptcha. Anyone answering with 174 is likely counted as wrong...
And then hope that the ambulance driver trying to find your place is skilled in the Roman ways.
Gestures as the main UI input will never last. They might work for a few things, like say doing a presentation. But no one will stand them for very long.
Stick your arms out. Now hold them there, for as long as you can. I'll wait.
.
.
How long did you last? Two minutes?
My hands sometimes get tired just using the iPad, at an angle.
when someone tries to better themselves, and takes an interest in what you do, smile, and encourage them,
If someone wants to try to learn how to learn programming, and html and other stuff. Then great, more power to them.
But when someone says you need to do that in order to become a better blogger? Well then we as programmers have failed to do our job. If you want to do cutting edge stuff you need to understand the underlying technology (sort of the definition of cutting edge) But In order to create great content, you should use great tools. And know how to use those tools. You don't need to understand how the tools themselves work.
I'm complaining about the person that says you need to learn about programming to use the web. Not the person who wants to learn programming to learn programming.
, they should look to understand the structure of the internet, protocols and server architecture and such. That's what laymen need in order to keep up.
Uhhh??? Why?
Car analogy: It is super important to know the structure of the car (how many wheels it has, etc) in order to drive it. NO. You need to know that when you press that pedal the car goes faster. When you press that one it goes slower. When you turn this big round thing the car turns.
Does it mean you can make better content if you know the protocols and server architecture? Not really. The person implementing the design might be able to do a better job if he understands clients and servers and stuff. But the non programmer doesn't need to know that. And certainly not the laymen.
this guy instantly became a public figure -- because millions of people listened -- and so immediately loses a whole whack of rights -- including his own privacy and the right to say what he pleases in his own home
I realize some things may be different in UK, but what rights do you lose because you are a public figure? Over here you lose some privacy rights, because your expectation of privacy is less than the average person. But you don't lose any speech rights. Now your speech may have greater consequences... Charlie Sheen can tell you all about that. But you don't lose any rights.
So he basically got jailed for saying "Fuck You?"
I read his comments, and yeah they look pretty dumb. But I fail to see how he was inciting a riot. He wasn't telling anyone do do anything. He was just shouting some insults.
If this bozo pleaded to a lesser account of "inciting a riot' I wonder what they really threatened him with?
So have I, including being willing to spend about 5 days and a not-insignificant amount of money to travel from Ohio to California by rail. Which I consider to be a small price to pay for not having my rights trampled.

There's no limit to the amoung of thermite you can carry on, and no limit to the amount of calcium carbide.
Just to name two.
You are limited to somewhere in the neighborhood of about 25 lbs. Of course my carry on has only been weighed once.
Why is a labor issue attached to an FCC bill? Sounds like a good enough reason right there to kill it.
Nice rules. I've got this 255 page law that I'll introduce at the beginning of the next session.
Precisely the point. There are existing laws which make the request for account passwords illegal,
No. There aren't any laws.
The fifth amendment doesn't apply. And even if it did, YOU are volunteering the information.
But they can't. Seriously. It is illegal now. In Texas, it is a state jail crime. (I am sure in other states too, but I do not know all the laws.) Twitter, however, is visible to the whole world, so anything undesirable must be just as visibly punished.
"anything undesirable" That is pretty much the definition of ANYTHING posted to twitter, isn't it?
A) Profanity is not protected speech.

Sure. But can you convince enough of the population to answer incorrectly?
And put your house number in Roman Numerals. Nothing like living in number CLXXIV to screw up the recaptcha. Anyone answering with 174 is likely counted as wrong...

But unless Google is paying a zillion people to validate these images visually,
That is EXACTLY what Google is doing. And the payment is access to the site the reCAPTCHA is protecting.
, and finally I'm going to give them all that for free
No you aren't. You are getting something in return, therefore you aren't getting it for free.

Don't worry. We Americans won't let you it if you tweet about how rad you are going to party in America. And how you will paint the town red.

The superior product isn't always the most successful product.
It should be illegal for any screen of any type to be visible to the driver of the vehicle.
It actually is in most states. I don't understand who the GPS screens (or the new radio screens) get around this
