Hehehe. I'm a Brasilian living in Puerto Rico, (Part of US since 1898, citizens since 1950 something) and it is a holiday. Then again, everything that happens here is enough for a holiday. People also take politics more seriously. In fact, too seriously. There's been cars with little partisan flags honking by every 10-15 minutes, with 5 people screaming names out the windows. (Why do they think that I should vote for that person? Am I really going to vote for someone who has those kind of crazy people who want to die screaming their names and honking all over the place? Oh, I know, I'll vote for that person because he has traffic-inducing parades which take away an hour of my weekend!) Here, EVERYTHING is about the party. Its driving me crazy. They have little parades inside the mall. Me and some of my (Puerto Rican) friends agree: It's just uncivilized.
There's a great opinion!
I am also Brazilian, and quite agree. Darrel Hammond did a great Clinton, but he sucks as Gore. The Dubya is pretty good, and Ferrel is a great actor. Dana's Bush is priceless. But I do disagree over Bush winning. Gore would be better, and I do hope he wins.
Did anyone notice that this is a JonKatz article? What happened, people? Where is all the flame? Is it cause he didn't write much? Must be some kind of truce....
I'd like to know why we can't work towards having digital/electonic voting.
In many countries, there is electronic voting. I know for a fact that Brasil is one of them. We have electronic voting everywhere. Not only in the major cities, but in the middle of nowheres too. I believe some U.S. states have electronic voting too. I think that New York is one of them. Or is it a county thing? (as opposed to state. Some counties might have them in a state that doesn't. I truly don't know.) Well, anyways, Brasil has digital/electronic voting, which also means that the results are usually released the same afternoon. (We don't have that many time zones, as our landmass is mostly spread in a North-South maner.)
It COULD BE A contraction, just like "do not" is don't and "have not" is haven't, "electronic mail" is e'mail, but it is obviously e-mail. Come on, do you say gspot? NO, you say G-Spot so its e-mail. Done.
Can you possible show a hyperlink on this?
its great!

I leave the rest to the imagination of my readers.
I can't quite find the link, but I do remember that this was posted before last year, and one of the links was this.

Quite interesting, really.
Being a person with very little Linux experience, I would like to know how this thing works. Does Linus still make the kernel releases, and then other companies change it? Or does he incorporate parts of companies' codes along with it?
Please help a curious nerd out.
Seriously, I disagree that this is hypocracy. Like I've argued a bit already in other threads of this discussion, nobody's asking for a free ride. Well, okay, some probably are, but I'm not one of them. I don't want to steal from an artist. I also don't want to pile more money into middlemen who don't deserve any of it!
Who should get prosecuted? The technology or the individual? NEITHER! Nobody should be arrested for wanting to listen to music without shelling out money to pay for a manager, publicist, ad agency, and other such useless folk.
Correct me if I am wrong, but you are saying that you pirate MP3s, etc. because you don't want to pay money to the middlemen? (managers, publishers, ad agencies, etc.)
That's pretty amazing. So therefore you only buy music that isn't legally sold by a website?
(There ARE sites which SELL mp3s.)
Thats quite noble. You buy MP3s from those sites if they are available, right?
....Why don't we talk about Mission:Impossible II? Aside from the Special effects, the ENTIRE MOVIE is an enormous piece of crap. Can you say "character change?"
Well, it has been sort of obvious that the pinball machine would die some day. Its like Xerox and Kodak. (sorry, Rochester) They're all being replaced by computers. (PARC: the irony to end all ironies. Xerox killed itself.) Its is too bad, but Pinball games are still very popular to people, and parents (even the most technophobic ones) love buying those types of non-violent games of their youth to their kids.
Its kind of amazing that everybody has an opinion, and the first guy to state the obvious got a score:5 for saying that Microsoft is going to appeal. I find it interesting that a lot of self-named "geeks" and "nerds" support this breakup, most of which are "going with the crowd." Without Microsoft, there would BE nothing like what we have today. Some may think of it as a necessary evil, but I think of it as a company made by some guys who worked their asses off and it payed off. Everyone seems to say M$ etc., but i'm amazed at what these people don't know. Ignorance is not a pretty thing. For those of you wondering, you're not looking at a Microsoft employee, but a teenager's view in the situation. I hate Microsoft products as much you do, and i supported the idea of breaking it up at the start. But then someone asked me the question: "why do you support it?" and I came up with all sorts of geek answers. It took me a while to get it, but he's right. I am just going with crowd. The posts i see say something sad. It says that a teenager is able to see the story in an entirely different point of view than lots of adults. But different points of view is why slashdot was created anyways.....
whooped-doo. I am so glad that miramax sent us the privilege of some day being able to download one of their super-exiting movies. yay. cheers. I'm as happy as a mole on groundhog day. (?)
Most fan fiction isn't at all good, because fans tend to be a. misinformed and b. liable to change delicate stories, exaggerate, be unclear, etc. (Stories that proclaim Kirk's love to Uhura, etc.) Some fan fiction, though, can be very good. If you're a trekkie, check out the strange new worlds series, where authors sift through thousands of entries and give you their favorites.

He says its offtopic. He ADMITS it is offtopic. Its his site, and he can post any offtopic article he wants. When he does, he usually gets JonKatz sized amounts of flame. When he does and ADMITS it, (aka today) everyone just has to go and tell him that is IS on topic. (see top of page.) The slashdot courtesy rule: Do not post corrections to the article. At all. Period. If you think it is actually interesting, ask 10 people first. if they all agree, and none are imaginary friends, THEN post to correct the article. (expect to be moderated down by ME)
JonKatz writes an article. (The article is large and time consuming, not a link which he got from an AC or someone else.) He actually reesearches and does hard work making an article which is, though I agree as not THAT interesting, informative and moderatly interesting.) Now, JonKatz posts his article. Immediatly, we see a gushing torrent of ignorant flame go towards him. All of the Posts which are anywhere near a high moderation rate are those which humorously, while angrily, correct JonKatz for writing his article. The purpose of Slashdot is to submit interesting news related to technology and to debate in an intelligent manner those news. It is NOT for making super-accurate on time stories. What is AMAZING to me is the fact that while Katz knows that he is gonna get nothing out of his hard work, (wasted time, flames) he still takes the time to provide you with a technology related story. Also amazing: People read his article knowing that they will only flame him for it, and they "hate" him. The intelligent user is the silent one who rarely posts.

Cnet had the best story. By far. On the front page, under high-tech notebooks. They even had stuff under "full story." Check it out.
