At which point you use the firmware emulator that lets you do that with an easy to use installer. You don't have to 'flash your own bios'. A lot of users update firmware to play a new game anyway.

Old news.. but still, it all depends on how well the drive caches. If it's writing useless data it's worthless... a swapfile to "slower" memory could be nice.
