  1. Re:Worldwide results on The Votemaster Is...Andrew Tanenbaum · · Score: 1

Of course it's not just the US that matters in the world. It's the weakness of the europeans that make the US matter more to the world than is required. Since the end of World War 1 the US has been the defender of Europe. The europeans after being decimated by WW1 had to spend money on social issues to rebuild their countries. When WW2 rolled arround europe was crushed again because they spent all the money on social issues they had no money for defense. The US saved europe again...and again europe had to rebuild....more money for social issues and none for defense...afterall the US has bases and troops stationed in europe so if there is another war the US will take care of it.

Now to the present. Europeans with their high spending on social issues still have no money for their own defense and are pretty much prevented from building a strong military by their populaces need for government support. Since they are militarily weak on the world stage they fall back to the only strentgh the weak have. International institutions and international law. This is not a slight to the europeans. The US was the same way before WW1 we had a weak military and relied on international institutions and international law for our strength. The formation of the European Union is an extentions of this need for some kind of power on the world stage.

It's just the way it is.

Just give me a modern Newton replacement with a 60GB, CF support, and WiFi support I know you can do it. But chances are it would cost more than a 12" powerbook. I have been an Apple user for years and was an owner of a first gen iPod. But this following of the Sony model of consumer electronics ( new hardware every 3 months) is pointless. I know jobs has a Sony fetish give me a usable color device for photos. Something with a 6x7cm screen and CF/WiFi not this half assed approach. If you want this market take it...but your not going to get it this way.

Exactly, as a professional photographer this would be cool it it directly support PictBridge or WiFi. Also, it would need to support RAW the display of RAW files. But right now is seems a bit short of features for pros so I will stick to the laptop.

The Kodak SLR/n and SLR/c also has a full 35mm frame at half the price of the Canon. The Kodak is 13.8MP but no WIFI. I have been using the SLR/n since March and it is a great cam. I do yearn for WIFI support though. But, I am not willing to drop another $4k just to be able to use WIFI.
Look here for pics I shot with the Kodak SLR/n:

I agree this is the best thing to do and can help you get a lot better. I spent 3 days at a photoshot last week with some pro photographers. During that time I shot 900+ pics over about 21 hours of shooting time. out of the 900+ only 10 where good and 3 really good. I can acctually see my evolution of a phoographer over those 900 shots and all the keeper shots where from the last day. The instant feedback of digital combined with no film cost to make mistakes is great for aspiring photographer.
