  1. Re:Anyone ever read... on Genetically Engineered Children · · Score: 1

True. I have seen only portions of Gattaca, but what I DID see screamed 'Huxley'. Brave New World strikes upon some interesting scenarios that are beginning to actually be feasible. I read BNW and 1984 around the same time, how's that for a mind job =)

  2. Confidentiality... on Your Medical Records Online · · Score: 1

Is a right we all have when it comes to our medical records. I work at a pharmaceutical company, and we are constantly scrutinized to make sure we are retaining the confidentiality of our patients. I can't even begin to see the possible infractions of privacy that would result from having confidential and personal medical records housed on the internet. We might all find out that *gasp* Bob Dole really DOES use viagra...

  3. Kind of makes you wonder... on Microsoft Launches Passport · · Score: 1

How many hotmail-esque security holes are in the newly rolled out passport service. I ditched my hotmail account after that little snafu (you know, the one where any hotmail account was open by just a simple little script, glad I don't have many enemies...) that M$ didn't even address until like 48 hours after it was exposed. All these poor morons months later when a similar exploit is revealed on the passport security system. Glad I won't be one of those morons...

...Brave New World? That's what this reminds me of. The Alpha pluses, the Epsilons, the class divisions. I think this could either be very good or very bad. It could be very good and have the benefits of eliminating a lot of genetic based diseases, but it could also fragment the class and social structure with groups of "I'm better than your because they streamlined my chromosomes before I was born" type of ideaology. I personally already got enough of that type of crap in high school thanks....

...for all the naysayers and religious wackos (hey, not saying anything again religion, just the people who take it too far) to point to and say that Jesus is coming back, or the alien space ship is behind hale-bopp, or whatever the trend of the day is. Hate to say it, but I think that it is reactions like this that stand in the way of real scientific progress. You shouldn't be afraid of science, it is merely a way to learn and digest the information around us in a logical and common-sensical way.

  7. Re:Why? on FreeBSDCon '99 Speaker Schedule Announced · · Score: 1
You suck. You probably say that because you installed RedHat 6.1 or Caldera 2.3 with their little GUI lame ass install program. Then you put your FreeBSD disk in and, holy shit, it's not pretty! There's no little mousy-thing to move around! omigod, what do I do?!?!? Then you just fucking freaked and turned your computer off, going back into your safe little world where you have Caldera set to boot straight into X. Of course, I could be totally off based and you could be a Linux Guru whose intelligence is far beyond that of mine. However I doubt it. Know why? If this was the case you'd be using FreeBSD =)

    - This is all satire. I don't mean half of it. The other half is the alcohol speaking. Remove the '666' in my email, and stamp it to your hand or forehead to email me. -
