Problem with that is that often the only audio-out alternative is RCA audio (i.e. analog, 2.1-channel). So while you are correct that it is POSSIBLE to get audio, it is inferior. For example, my PS3 has hdmi out which goes to my TV, but only shitty RCAs that I can use to connect to my HK receiver, which in turn is connected to audiophile speakers. So I'm losing out on the digital 5.1 sound since the damned digital video and audio are both carried on the hdmi cable!

So it's known that the Earth's magnetic field has flipped in the past. What's not as clear is the cause - is it because the Sun's magnetic field flips, thereby reversing ours? - and how long this process lasts.

I read an interesting book called The Mayan Prophecies by Maurice Cotterell (I believe that was his spelling, too lazy to doublecheck) in the late 90s. The book's author mentions this as a possible cause for global catastrophe and an explanation for the Mayan's breaking up their calendar into these 1000s of year epochs called "Ages" by the Mayans. We are about to end the latest Mayan "Age" around August of 2012. This would line up quite nicely with the current massive Sun spot activity, eh? Especially if we are beginning an 11 year cycle since 11 divided by 2 is 5.5, we are about 5.5 years from the end of the Mayan Age. I wonder if all of this activity is a precursor to a Sun's magnetic field reversal.

    Thoughts?

You just haven't delved deep enough to find what's new. The Meeting Center (or whatever it's called), the IPv6 support, the much enhanced firewall are just a few I can think of after using Vista for a few weeks that you don't even mention. All you are doing is describing the look & feel changes, which you shouldn't bitch about being not-that-different as that would just lead to confusion amongst XP-users who decide to upgrade to Vista.

And guess what, they are more of a pain in the ass to support than all of the other similar school customers (i.e. running the same application that my company supports) who are on PCs.
