That is all your opinion. Sure the Nintendo systems may have had better graphics but that does not translate into the popular system. Ever since the N64 we have seen the offerings for Nintendo's systems fall way short of a good selection. Sure you have those few gems but overall you have a lot more to choose from with the PS1 and PS2 and now the Xbox. I was not knocking Nintendo, I was just pointing out how timid developers have been with their systems and now that may be changing with the Wii. I was only saying with the lack of developer support for the older Nintendo systems they might be wary about picking up the new one.
Do you blame game developers? Look at the last few consoles Nintendo has put out. When your best system is a handheld there is something wrong. Now the Wii is very innovative and very diffrent from anything else out there and the newness most likely has developers worried. Why put a lot of effort into a top notch game for a system that the gimmik wears off of quickly? I think they were smart to see how well it would be welcomed before developing a whole lot. For me though, can you imagine a new version of Grant theft auto where you work on that perfect tire-iron arc swing?
Was this article anything but a big "duh!" for anyone else but me? If you have ever had to deal with a support rep from any major computer maker (when they require to troubleshoot with one of their "techs" before you can send someting in for warranty repair/replacement) you know that these people have no clue and are following a troubleshooting flowchart. There are no engineers or tech experts on that phone line. My favorite thing is when they answer with their barely understandable english and say "Tank eu for cauling (name of place) my naam iz Steve".
I am on Bellsouth (now AT&T) DSL and I am a doownloading fool. There have been times I have been downloading multiple gigs of data from newsgroups, listening to net audio, and playing a MMO all at the same time and have not gotten any warnings or anything. I do wonder if this will change once AT&T has better control over our area. Sometimes its nice to live in a rural area with high speed.
I know I will likely be flamed for this, but I think its great that the hackers have offered this type of service. This will force microsoft to come up with real security instead of some pop up windows that try and give some simalance of being secure. I hate adware as much as the next guy but if this is allowed to continue, Microsoft might be forced to re-think the base of their OS.
Of course this could all be the next small step in Apples bid for world domination! Apple-hired mercenaries working under the guise of business minded hackers...brilliant!
This is horrible. What will the people of Thailand do without their daily dose of teenage girls lipsyncing to pop songs? This has to be aginst the Geneva convention somehow.
The new Thiland government is quoted as saying because of all the bugs in open source software they will be installing Vista on all crucial government machines.
There is another aspect that the lawsuit is most likely going to cover and that is the crippling DRM built into the system. You have people buying supposed HD-ready machines with HD-DVD players and a nice big screen HD Screen and they plug it all up, put in a HD-DVD and...lookie..nothing. If I were to buy a big "Vista Ready" system that one of its main features is to play HD content, and then I find that Vista won't allow it, I would sue too.
Well it's about time someone tracked down these spammers. I can't count how many times I was searching for porn on the internet and got an ad page. The nerve of some companies.
Oh yes, the concept of this game could never happen. I mean as we all know christians have never been known to be violent or to push their religion on anyone else. Not like the salem witch trials or the crusades or anything. They would never try to push their beliefs on anyone else, you know, like going to another country to preach to "the savages" or standing outside movie theaters of movies that go aginst their beliefs and shun the people going to them. And for another thing... Christians are all about love and tolerance so they would never turn their back on a pregnant teen as a sinner and they would also never tell their congreations to burn any book, CD, and/or movie that they deem goes aginst God. Sheesh, what do you try and take some Christians for? Self rightious hipocrits....oh wait...christians have done all of the above. My bad.
Honestly, I do not think that this game is really on the mark in current society because there is a large, non-christian community out there, but if we let it, this country could turn into a Chruch run country and they WILL dictate everything to us. We just have to make sure that does not happen.
Right now companies are comfortable with XP. Why should they look at upgrading hundreds of machines to an OS that needs another upgrade to run smoothly? When is Microsoft going to realize that performance & security > Eye Candy? I think they are too worried about out cooling Apple and that is not their strong suite. Look at the zune...the commercials should have the tag line "Look, we're cool too"
So a Mac pro with a Nvidia Quadro FX 4500 (just one of many graphics adapters that can be configured into the system) isnt good enough for your gaming? I would love to know what game your playing at the moment that needs more.
Dell competes on price, Apple competes on quality (that's one of the reasons why you hear about Apple defects so much)
Even if some macs have had problems Apple has been better than many many companies when it comes to fixing known hardware issues. There have been several Apple repair extension programs to fix problems that have been known to be widespread, such as the Ibook logic board issue with the video chip, the powerbook memory slot problem, and most recently an emac logic board problem affecting video, without charging the customer even of they do not have warranty or applecare. I don't see Dell or any other name brand doing this for their customers. PC companies seem to be in the mindset that if you didnt buy their extended warranty, it serves you right to have problems.
As a working musician, it is my opinion that filesharing spreading to a large percentage of the general public is a direct reason that independant record labels and independant cd stores are increasingly becoming invisible and/or dieing.
Actually this is not happening because of P2P. Look at the booming popularity of legit rights managed services such as iTunes. With the growing popularity of portable digital media players we are only going to see a decrease in actual CD sales (which the RIAA will use to further their case with the public as to the "widespread piracy" going on). Unfortunately that means that small independant artists like yourself will be out in the cold unless you can find an effective way to distribute digitally as well.
The other possibility is that the current distribution model will break down as artists opt-out of the restrictive RIAA practices, and some more organic system grows up in its place, where content is not so rabidly protected, and artists are more directly compensated by their fans
Unfortunately I don't think that will happen with the artists. Remember the stink over ticketmaster and their "service charges"? Some artists came out aginst it and swore it was not right but now it is just business as usual. Artists do what the label tells them to do (with some big name exceptions who run their own lables now).
If it was a mac, when you double clicked the file and it would detect a change attempt to a configuration and/or system file and prompt for the systems admin password to perform the task. Windows just allows it to happen. The same thing happens when activex controls (another microsoft breakthrough) are embedded in banner ads and websites that download and install various malicious programs, all without the users knowledge.
I have messed with vista and they tried to do a MAC thing by making the system stop when you try and change something with the system and having you click continue to verify that you actually want it changed. Good idea, except that it prompts you on EVERYTHING. Change your screen saver? HALT..VERIFY. Want to check network connection setting? HALT...VERIFY. I think this will end up getting really annoying and people will disable it (like we did with the test of vista beta).
First off I would like to say that I did work for Best Buy until I finally bought my soul back from satan. I am not sure who said it, but it was accurate to say that BB pays crap (unless you manuplate the system like I did...muhahaha), but so does most small tech companys. It seems that a lot of them think a trained monkey can be a good tech and Best Buy is no exception. I will tell you a secret, which is not a secret really...Best Buy is there to make money..period..thats it...if they could find a way to convince people that they have a problem with a yard gnome and that they could fix it, they would...and try to get you to sign up for internet because it would "make it work better".
It is a bit unfair to group all techs who work or have worked for a company like Best Buy in the same catagory because some markets (like the one I was in) there are not a lot of choices. I would say at my store (this was several years ago before geek squad) there was a 50/50 split. They guys who had a clue and those who weasled into the job thinking it would be easy. You would not believe some of the people who get hired and who actually gets turned away...its retarded. In an envirnment like Best Buy it is not about your product knowledge or technical prowess...it is how good you are at selling stuff and how much colon licking you do (yes, even worst than brown nosing).
Just for example..We had a tech who went on to work for a local hospital (though he had a lot of experience and BB was just for extra cash on a part time deal). And another who is a good friend of mine is now a tech at a local company who services a lot of business networks in his area. Now on the other side of the coin, we had a woman who was hired because she had an A+ cert. She had gone to a staffing place and studied and taken the test. My favorite quote her first week. "How do you install a modem?"

Score one for our "surfing porn at work" bothers and sisters!
