    We already had 'Global Cooling' 30 years ago. We had 'Desertification' with the Sahara consuming all of Africa. All the whales refused to die out and 'Global Warming' is getting smothered in foot deep snow. Generally, a fad is over once someone made a bad movie on it and Al Gore did that already, so what is next?

    Hmm, water vapor is a much more powerful greenhouse gas than CO2. Therefore, we should immediately shut down all USA irrigation farming and return to relying on natural rainfall the way Mother Nature intended. Since I live in Canada, such a move will greatly benefit our farming community...

    Funny you mention it - I just recovered a friend's fried laptop last weekend. Installed drive in another box, used Knoppix to copy Documents and Settings to server, got a USB disk drive adaptor, repartitioned and formatted drive with FAT32 then copied everything back so he can use it as an external drive on his new laptop. Yeah, Knoppix!

    MS Windows is POSIX compliant as well, though in practise, you need Cygwin for any POSIX programs. Just like the POSIX trick, the standardization is just to get a tick mark on government RFPs.

    The closer you are to the pole, the diff also gets less. If you only have a few hours daylight, it doesn't matter how the fuck you shift it around, it stays too short. DST is retarded.

    What 8-5 world? When I was in primary school (which is a helluva long time ago come to think of it) businesses started to change to flexi time. Only a few government departments run on an 8-5 schedule. DST makes no difference to the majority of people - they go to work when they feel like it. My conclusion is that you must be living in Washington DC...

    What extra hour? Most people have flexi time at work and go to work when they want to, which is generally determined by the sun. Shops only open at 10 to 11 am anyway and stay open till 10pm. Most office building lights are always on. Aluminium smelters run 24/7 and are still the largest consumers of electrity. So, the net result of DST changes is employment for IT staff, beyond that, nothing.

    Yeah, though in actuality, recalculations of the earth surface cased the Greenwich line to no longer run where it used to. It is a few meters away now. The trouble is that the earth hasn't got an exact centre to base measurements on.

    It only works if your user name is Administrator and your password is 123... ;) This kind of proxy equipment needs the end points to co-operate. It cannot be done on just any ssh or stunnel connection. I don't really see the use for it. If your SSL connection is slow, then you have to adjust the cypher or something.
