    All electronics emit radio frequency signals. Take an old radio, switch it to 'shortwave', then place it next to some piece of electronics and have fun.

    In the US, the common code name for shielding computer equipment is known as TEMPEST. Some Googling will find you lots of information on the problem.

    This doesn't provide protection while the system is running. It is transparent. It only provides protection when the machine is powered off or when the drive is unmounted.

    To Canadians and Russians global warming is obviously beneficial, eventually we'll be able to farm the tundra. Way down south is a huuuuuuge empty continent called Antarctica. It will be able to sustain hundreds of millions of people.

    There is more than one way to do it:
    One of the beneficial effects of sulpherous air pollution is a cooling effect. So, to decrease the global temperature, we can just remove the filters from the coal fired power stations and burn more coal. Stimulating a few volcanoes would help too...

    The problem is not the desktop per se. The problem is the infrastructure: Authentication, LDAP, Email, Web Applications, Database Applications, Point of Sale Systems... The desktop itself is minor issue compared to all that.

    Doesn't matter, since the differences are superficial. The better you know Linux, the more you'll realize that there is almost no difference between distributions.

    Large cities and governments use hundreds or even thousands of Linux servers. The thing that is holding Linux desktops back is domain authentication and single sign-on processes. Making Windows and Linux desktops co-exist using a central LDAP server is not difficult, but there is precious little information on the web on how exactly to do that.     Of course, if you connect your Windows machine behind a simple, out of the box Linux based firewall router then it will be safe. That is the whole difference between Linux and Windows. I will trust Windows security once Cisco/Netgear/Dlink starts to ship simple out of the box Windows based firewall routers.

    It is possible to make a Windows machine secure enough for military users, but then it isn't quite so easy to use anymore.

    Yup, obviously there will be registration centres for illegal immigrants along the Mexican border as well. I'm sure the whole national ID system will work just as well as the Canadian long gun registry.
