  1. Fewer laws = more freedom on GE Announces Advancement in Incandescent Technology · · Score: 1

...but companies are not responsible for moronic use of their product.

I think you mean common sense dictates that companies are not responsible for moronic use of their product. However, many courts have proven that companies can be held responsible for such use when they clearly should not be. I think we've all heard the stories about people successfully suing due to self-destructive acts such as: reaching hands under running lawnmowers, putting motor-homes on "autopilot" while walking back to make coffee--on the Interstate, dumping hot coffee in the lap, etc etc.

Here's something I've not seen done yet: Put your blog or board under .htpasswd/.htaccess protection and include the username and password on your main site or even in the AuthName along with login instructions. That's probably easier than deciphering an image and something bot scripts are (hopefully for now) unprepared for.

  6. How do they know the files she had were songs? on P2P Defendant Destroys Evidence, Case Defaults · · Score: 1

How would they be able to prove that a downloaded and deleted file, say formerly "Eagles - Hotel California.mp3", is really the song it appears to be? It could be some spin-off work that is free domain--or something else altogether. Somehow I doubt their P2P spies actually check the content they see being retrieved.

I think that courts should be required to actually play back every bit of data that is presumed to be illegally in the defendent's possession as proof. 200 songs would only take what, 13 hours of gruelling torture, being exposed to someone's poor taste in music? Maybe by then the court would be so sick of being forced by the RIAA to listen to music that they would get thrown out on their bleeding ears.

I've been a part of a gaming center that has been going for 3 years so far. Here is some summary advice I can give you. If you would like to know more just send me a message; this is a topic that we have discussed in depth, and I would be happy to answer any additional questions.
    1. Be sure you really want to open a game cafe. If there is any doubt at all, don't do it.
    2. Resist the urge to build your own PC's. This is a point of pride to all people like us, but don't do it. You will save time and money by leasing PC's from Dell or your favorite PC dealer and customizing them as needed. We leased with the option to purchase at the end for a good price on our 4 newest additions, but built all our originals.
    3. Join iGames. They will help you with everything from tournaments to software purchasing.
    4. Get 1-2 House Accounts for your local popular MMOGs and put the passwords in for them when they want to play. We got 3 City of Heroes accounts and they have been consistently played ever since.
    5. Don't try to push away your teenage customers. They are the only ones we can get to keep coming back year after year.

There are tons of other issues I could list but these sprang to mind first. Good luck!!!

Whether your political worldview can handle it or not, we do have enemies out there. And don't even start into that nonsense that everybody hates us because Bush is an imperialist oil-dog. He's only been in there six years and you can bet that we had enemies--even these enemies--long before that.

I for one am proud that my country and its allies are able to catch plots like this. It shows me they are making an effort at keeping me and my fellow citizens safe from people who are infected with such virulent hate, that they will end their earthly existence for the express purpose of taking others with them.

When I signed on to Verizon DSL, it was $35/mo. for their basic (768d) service. About 6 months later they notified me that they would be bumping me up to 3Mbit and lowering the price to $30. "No problem," says I.

About 3 months after that I noticed they were offering the old 768kbit that I had before at $15/mo. "Well shoot," I say, "I don't need this bandwidth, gimme the cheaper price!" Now I knew my year contract was not up with them (yes I was aware of it when I signed on), but they still wanted to charge me a ~$70 fee for switching to the new contract. I reluctantly agreed to this, because it made logical sense to me.

    Guess what.

The fee never came, and I didn't complain.

    Weird, huh?

Let us simply understand that you can't have the factual accuracy and neutrality of an encyclopedia for something that occurred yesterday; technology alters the quantity and speed of information, not its quality. If you want neutrality, you must wait for cooler (and further removed) heads to prevail.
That is a good point. With this in mind, perhaps it might behoove Wikipedia to adopt some sort of minimum age for current events before they can be added as entries. There are plenty of other sources for information on current events.
