Great sample... They should test the algorithm on maybe 80 historical seasons and maybe we will be able to see something. Well, the problem with that is the NCAA tournament hasn't always used seeds, and only opened up to 64 teams in 1985. So you might want to see results from the past 23 seasons. That's why I don't trust most of the stats analysts provide unless they preface it with, "since the tournament expanded to 64 teams..." For example, UCLA has eleven or twelve national championships but most of those where back when you only had to win two or three games to claim the title. Six games is a marathon.
  7. I have not read the books, but... on New Dune Movie Confirmed · · Score: 1

They are on my list of books to read (after the Ender's series). I have heard that the Dune books get better and better, with the fourth book being the best, and after that it's not worth reading the others. The fact that they are making a movie for the first book means that they will most likely use the revenue from it to make a movie for the second book, and so on, until we have four movies for four books. This fits in perfectly with what could be a new practice in Hollywood: not stopping with a mere trilogy and going for a fourth movie (see: Spider-man, LoTR + The Hobbit, Die Hard).

  9. Box Office Revenue versus Tickets Sold on Record Box Office Indicates MPAA 'Piracy Problem' Hot Air · · Score: 1, Insightful

I am never surprised that Box Office revenue increases with the way they raise prices every six months. Nine bucks for a student "discount" (in Atlanta) is a slap in the face. There are several movies that I'd like to see right now, like the one with Jack Black AND Mos Def, but I'll wait until it's OnDemand. Five bucks for pay per view is way better than the eye gouge at the movie theaters. I never go to the movies anymore because it's ridiculously expensive. I'd be more interested in the year to year number of tickets sold.
