Comcast is unfortunately the only fast option where I live, the other being ATT DSL at a whopping 768kb/s for some insane price. I've had them at 2 different places now, and each time they conveniently filter out the HD channels when I run the coax from the box into the TV. So I put a 4 way splitter there, 1 for the TV, 1 for the box, 1 for the new media center (eventually heh), and 1 for the cable modem during LAN parties. And no, I'm not paying extra for the HD stuff just yet. As soon as the analog gets switched off, everything goes to at least 480i right? (Not sure)
When I used a CD to upgrade, my keyboard wouldn't work. When using apt-get, Gnome hangs just before login. Gnome partition editor is also non working on Edgy CD. I'll reinstall the previous Ubuntu release, and wait until the next one arrives.
I was debating on whether or not to get BF2142. This was what I was looking for. If they bundle ANYTHING (bad) besides the game, I will not be getting it. PLUS there are ads in the game?! No way, if I pay $50 for it, I want it ad free. You lost a sale EA.
Longer answer: Depending on the type of gamer you are, PC or console, you would have different opinions. Being a PC gamer, I run everything at relatively high res, 1280x1024 usually. That's technically HD right? Considering most SD TVs are 320, or 480 in res, the difference is like looking at smooth blobs vs... anything else! I need razor sharp, crystal clear text/models/textures.
It also depends on the equipment. I recently got an HD TV, and hooked it up to my 7900GTX. All looked pretty darn good on the 50in screen, but still not the best. In the end, I opted for my much smaller, low response rate, sharp edged LCD instead. I'll stick with the TV to watch movies and BSG.
To all you console gamers with no HD, you have no idea what you are missing.
Don't get me wrong though, games still need to be fun. With all the advanced hardware out there nowadays, why are some still in SD?
and I'll say it again: 1 reason that is keeping me from switching to 100% Linux is the games. WINE is getting close though... I do wish the game developers would start to support Linux. Some have already, some have made WINEing easier (Warcraft 3, WoW). It would be awesome if Valve released a Linux version.
i'm actually writing a DnD app for a friend of mine that will do just that: chat, file transfer, map design, rolls, etc. i'll probably release it eventually.
I whole-heartedly agree with "gamers who need to suffer Windows." I recently tried a complete switch over to Linux, but was forced to go back because of that single reason. More specifically, it was the Source engine games that took the most performance hit. All games ran (thanks to Cedega) but not nearly as well as on XP. Guild Wars ran acceptably, and Warcraft 3 surpassed expectations. I even got my VPN (Hamachi) to play nice with LAN games.

This is awesome! If I ever do get a PS3, this will be THE reason.

Agreed, Warcraft 3 runs with less crashes under Linux then XP, albeit slightly slower when there's huge poly counts on the screen.

Gorgeous GUI as well (Gnome).
Almost there, so very, very close!
Go WINE!
Also the mouse delay bug is quite annoying.
