I guess I just don't plain old get it. How, in the scheme of the whole freaking universe, does it matter if there is a duplicate post?????? I don't fucking get it. I mean, if it's such a waste of time, what are you doing...reading the duplicate for 2 hours and suddenly it dawns on you that, "Derrrr, oh, this is a duplicate!"???? If it's a duplicate, use the fancy little button on your browser labelled "Back". It's not that difficult. I, for one, don't give a fly's ass whether an article is re-posted once and a while, there are bigger things to worry about in the world.
It's still a joke. Granted, XP is better than anything they have done, but nothing beats the bang for $ of Linux/BSD vs. Windows. Furthermore, *nix is much more logically structured and Windows is just crap wrapped around crap. I "grew up" being a MS slave; when I started using Unix about 6 years ago, the world changed and things became possible.
MS is just polishing turds. How many kazillion lines of code is Windows? The number of lines of code to produce what they've released is a MAJOR indicator that something is wrong. I'll take my Linux/Apache server which has been running for 18 months without rebooting over my 2000 server which randomly crashes. Is the fact that 2000 server crashes less frequently, but more more randomly than NT supposed to make me not laugh?
Actually, no it doesn't. Here in Chicago, I have a feeling that most people on the street are really bums, drug addicts, and alcoholics looking for only money to buy booze/drugs.
Case in point: 1 year ago, I saw this guy on Jackson Street asking for money to buy some food. He said he was starving. I walked into a restaurant and bought him an egg, cheese, and bacon sandwich with hash browns and an orange juice. I gave it to him and he grudgingly said thank you. I walked by that spot 8 hours later and guess what I saw on the ground? An egg, cheese, and bacon sandwich with one bite out of it with hash browns strewn all over the sidewalk and a dumped over orange juice. This is not the first time this has happened to me. I quit. I give money to organized charities and people who REALLY need something will go to those charities for help. Someone on the street screaming that he's poor is just toying with your emotions most likely. You should tell your sister's boyfriend to not take that to heart in my opinion because he was probably being played. That's what you learn living in a big city anyway.
If it were the Post Office losing these, I'd suspect losses in both directions.
I think that's specious reasoning. Perhaps someone in your post office or your postman knows when the DVDs are "inbound" as opposed to "outbound" so they steal them when they're outbound so the customer can always be blamed and they get a free movie.
Oh my Jesus is that a load of crap. First of all, most men couldn't care less about what shoes a woman is wearing (unless they're some sort of fetishist--which I never understood). Second of all, this whole blaming society bullshit is wearing thin. I think women propagate the makeup, fashion, shopping stereotypes more than any man I know. Women embrace those things, not fight them. Attraction to me and most normal, at least semi-intelligent men, has nothing to do with shoes or fashion, but the spark of feeling you get with someone. Most women I'm attracted to don't wear make-up or wear very little and buck all the latest BS trends like having to have a certain hairstyle or the latest style of jeans. Just because there's a huge amount of women out there with shallow, vain views about how they should look (as there are a lot of men now too) doesn't mean that "the man" is doing it. I don't know a single man who will say they want women to buy 5,000 pairs of shoes or shop all the time or always look like they're absolutely perfect--it's unhinging. That's plain ridiculous and I hope someday this whole "male dominated society" garbage gets buried beneath all the other excuses put out by the whining masses.
Indeed, if anything, both genders in society have become shallow and looks conscious, but that doesn't mean you have to follow that. Women on TV shows talk about "cute butts" or "abs" or looking like Brad Pitt. However, that is NO excuse for a someone making a personal choice to behave a certain way. Some things are because they just are.
You know what the difference must be? You have your own domain. I'm using various ISPs and obviously, the spammers must target them. So, that's what must be happening with the other poster too. Sorry, I'm a little slow!:) However, if you have to play with the unwashed masses (ISPs) without your own domain name, you're in for a world of hurt spam-wise (A new Lord of the Rings character?).
You are a very lucky man Mr. Bird. I'm using various filters and I receive over 700k per day, often over 1MB. It's not me either. I signed up for a new account on an ISP and didn't use it for anything but shell access (no email, no newsgroups). My email address for that ISP was never shared, yet I was receiving about 20 spams per day starting with the very minute I signed up. Spammers now just spam random addresses for ISP domain names, it's unavoidable. Honestly, I have trouble believing you get as little spam as you do with usenet postings and purchasing. I would think that either there's a spam filter somewhere and you're not aware of it or you're leading a charmed life!
Oh praise all that's holy. If one more IRC fuck-stick uses/me again I'm gonna hunt them down and bitch-slap them. Also, total agreeance (Fred Durst-ism) on the whole Slashdot experience. People need to learn to appreciate Slashdot for what it's for: a cool web site to discuss interesting topics for geeky type folks. Nothing more, nothing less. It's still a valuable site, just in a different way.
Your scenario with spitting a loogie into the burger is just as likely at a mom & pop place. Not all mom & pop places have just mom & pop working there and besides, what if mom just slept around on pop? He's going to be spitting loogies.:)
I understand what you're going for, but I have to agree that you know what you're getting at McDonald's, whether it's in Calgary, London, or Chicago and it's never made me sick because there is a corporate structure at least attempting to enforce a certain standard of quality. The mom & pop place does not have that. I still go to mom & pop places however. I've definitely gotten sick from a few of those; never from a McDonald's though. On the other hand, I've had some of the best food in my life at the other places whereas I'd never have that at McDonald's!
...but can they leave ANYTHING alone? What's next? I won't be surprised if they branch out into other markets...Oh, GM is selling a lot of cars, we view them as a competitor. Sheesh.
I wish Tony Blair was the next President of the United States! Did you see his speech before Parliament last week? Brilliant. I like him and think he displays intelligence, charisma, eloquence, and charm. And, I defy anyone to tell me that "A Storm in Heaven" by the Verve isn't cool and doesn't elevate the cool status of Britain in a big way!:)
Rarely cool? Radiohead isn't cool? The Beatles weren't cool? The Clash? Tony Blair? Monty Python? Verve? Coldplay? Cary Grant? James Bond? To me, the Brits will always be the epitome of cool.
How do you post with a large herring anyway? Was the herring looking over CmdrTaco's shoulder? Was the herring dead and with CmdrTaco, who was about to eat it? I just don't get it!
Heh heh, a socialist leaning, pacifist country's primary governmentally owned channel will be unbiased? I don't really think so. It's good to read it, but if you want the truth, you can't believe it 100% as much as you can't believe the Wall Street Journal 100%!:)
Actually, I was hoping he'd put himself in that [annoying lisp]locked box[/annoying lisp] he kept talking about and stay there until the oxygen ran out!!!:)
He did lose in 2000, that's why he's not President now. Regardless of what you thought of the results of the electoral process, the winner is the man who gets the office. Sorry.
Whoa! I know I want a bigger screen on my next laptop (current one is 14"), but this is getting ridiculous!!! Do they make Targus laptop bags that big???
Comp sci, and IT in particular, is something you learn by doing.
I think you're wrong. Computer Science is highly theoretical (hence "Science") and you should expect a great deal of algebra, matrices, etc. You sound like my friend who started majoring in Engineering and complained that he wasn't learning how to fix circuits! That's a technician's job, not an engineer's. If you want to learn programming, program. If you want to learn the theory behind computing, major in Computer Science. If people don't want to learn the theory, why do they take curricula which is highly theoretical?
And, why on earth would you switch to pure Math if you weren't learning anything practical in Computer Science??? Was that a joke?
Goddammit, the man is obviously NOT an idiot. Just because you disagree with someone's policies or views doesn't make them stupid. I'd like to see any one of you handle press asking those questions as well as he did.
I've always hated how "superuser" caught on, presumably because of the su command. The su command stands for "switch user", not superuser. Does anyone know about that? It's a freakin' pet peeve of mine, however, even man pages refer to a superuser. There is no "superuser", there's root.
Sorry to diverge in the discussion. Carry on, nothing to see here...

At least you can put computers to good use. How many stinking pairs of shoes do you really need? :)

In other words, they're actually features.
...so, why does people replying to your sig annoy you?

I read em all and then believe 1% of all of what I read. I love the BBC, the Brits are always interesting, polite, and just damn cool.

Well then, I guess Billy Clinton is the king of all idiots by that criteria.
Goddammit, the man is obviously NOT an idiot. Just because you disagree with someone's policies or views doesn't make them stupid. I'd like to see any one of you handle press asking those questions as well as he did.
Of course, that's at least how it's applied to Bush, so it's fair game to anyone else.
