One of the inconsistancies Singer observes in his book is that Bush uses the UN when it suits him, but not when he thinks that his requests will be turned down. The US government also picks and chooses which UN resolutions to abide by and which to ignore.
Sooo, he consistantly does what he thinks is right., regardless of whether the UN agrees.
Mmmm. Imagine a game like Neverwinter Nights or some such spawning a separate thread to handle "world events" while the main thread controls the main action? Dual CPU's could be a new boon to gaming!
This was one tragic event. Should it be front-page news for the next decade? Should it be used to justify every new restriction on our freedom that our government puts into place?
How can you just ignore the WTC attacks
You seem to have missed the "s" there. Apparently you've already forgotten the 1993 bombing. Perhaps it *should* be on TV 24/7, as it's so easilly forgotten by people like you.
You think we should forget D-Day? Pearl Harbor? Why shouldn't the attacks on the WTC get the same attention? You just "write it off" as a "tragic event" and move on? You also conveniently ignore attacks on embassies. It's easy to move on when you ignore things isn't it?
Here's something you won't find on CNN or Fox: Arabs don't hate our freedoms. They hate our meddling in their affairs, namely Israel.
I'll give you that. I believe the same thing. But that doesn't make them any more *right* in this matter does it?
I don't know why you brought up the PATRIOT ACT. I never even mentioned it, nor do I really support it...
Games aren't the only things that need good video cards. Perhaps they do large 3-D renderings or something. I know a company that does fluid dynamics, and would require a system with lots of memory for the calculations, and a good video card to display the results.
How can you just ignore the WTC attacks and tell me "nothing to see here, please go about your business?" And the embassy attacks which have been much more frequent? The attack in Spain?
I'll ignore the attacks in Iraq for now, seeing as I expect those after we invaded.
I don't suspect my arab neighbors are terrorists, nor do I have any evidence of "sleeper" cells. But I do know we have been attacked multiple times already.
As much as most slashdotters *hate* the whole "in this post 911 world" stuff, I think they're naieve in ignoring it as well. "Ahh well, 3000 people were killed. But nobody *I* know so it doesn't effect me and I don't see why others are nervous." Some of us don't bury our heads in the sand so well.
RedHat offers what you're looking for. When you isntall you can choose to authenticate against an LDAP server. And any apps that use PAM will do so also.
You're comparing a planned, targeted, purposeful attack to automobile accidents? Are you that dense?
Linking to images and swearing may not be a great argument, but I doubt logic will work on you either. You think we should wait until we are attacked several times before we consider terrorists to be a threat? Fine. We have. Look at our embassies. And the *first* WTC attack. Still not convinced? Take off the rose-colored glasses and look again.
I mean, it isn't even a topic of debate outside the US, people accept it as fact.
You would rather that instead of debating it we just killed the preachers of creationism? In a healthy republic matters of all importance are openly debated...
Listen, it may sound like we're being alarmist, but you're just as guilty of listening to the American media apparently as those you are insulting. There *are* real threats to the US at this time. WE'VE FUCKING BEEN ATTACKED ALREADY. It would be very naieve to think that it's "all over now."
HOWEVER, this doesn't mean we're all running around screaming about terrorism and living in bunkers.
It may be "bourgeois", but it's a good thing. As long as people are aware of how much the gov't is taxing them then we can keep the gov't in check here. This way we don't get the runaway taxes like in Europe...
Sooo, to you evacuating lower manhattan for some unspecified time to see whether the area is safe to live in is "no big deal?"
The loss of life may be lower than the Trade Center attacks, but the impact on society would likely be higher. But that's only if wall street means anything to you I guess.
Well, all that and the fact that the area could become unihabitable like the area around Chernobyl. Downtown Manhattan is fairly populated, and having to permanantly evacuate it would be a serious problem...
I pretty much only use windows, though I have tried a couple of times to switch to different linux distributions. Personally, I have no idea what you are talking about. I have never had to use anything other than the control panel to do everything with my windows box. Yep, not a single time have I had to much with the registry. The problem is with your attitude that if the GUI can't do it you should go in and take care of it. Unfortunately, I have better things to do with my time that take a distribution and try to make it work for me with all that effort. A GUI is much more managable and easier to learn.
Which control panel? XP Home? XP Pro? 98? 95? NT? 2k3?
Most of the config files in/etc have been the same since 1996. In fact, many config files I've changed once, and never touched again (even moved them from RedHat to Gentoo). GUI is easier my ass. It's only easy if things don't keep bloody moving around on you.
Wake me up when Windows standardizes on their control panel to the point where I can go from one release to the next without relearning everything.
You're thinking the only way to fool the detector is to actually have your retina (or an exact copy of it). What if somebody finds a flaw in the detector itself that they can fool it with a glass eye? Or other things yet to be thought of?
You're right. You are flamebait. Should've followed your instincts.
Your response:
* ignores the posters question.
* offers no insight
* offers no work-arounds or solutions
* doesn't explain anything at all
* serves only to put the poster beneath you.
Sounds like flamebait to me...
An emulator is perfectly fine for a class. He could also get a shell account (http://www.testdrive.hp.com/). He could pick up a cheap x86 box. Etc.
But you fail to mention any of these and prefer instead to insult the poor guy.
How many people work on it? The correct answer is "As many who want to." That's the big difference. Does number of people actually doing the work matter so much?
STEAL - the wrongful or willful taking of money or property belonging to someone else with intent to deprive the owner of its use or benefit either temporarily or permanently. No particular type of movement or carrying away is required.
I believe copyright infringment falls under the "taking of money" portion since you are, in effect, depriving the copyright holder of legitimate sales (money).
The horse has been dead for some time. You can stop hitting it now.
Or maybe the "pop-up balloon" in WinXP that keeps telling me whenever a wireless network is in range and whenever an interface goes up/down. I've got two wireless cards, an ethernet card, two coLinux "Tap" interfaces, and a bridge. They *drive me nuts*.
I must have missed something else. "Use" == "Require" now?
Next they'll tattoo us with barcodes and require we use fingerprints to buy coffee - oh, wait, they already DO!
Did I miss something?

It's all about point of view.
Mmmm. Imagine a game like Neverwinter Nights or some such spawning a separate thread to handle "world events" while the main thread controls the main action? Dual CPU's could be a new boon to gaming!
I believe the hardware itself is going to honor the bit. May not be much one can do from software...

Yeah, it's not like there's anything to be afraid of.

No, it doesn't. How does it suck ass? I've played QIII, RTCW, NeverwinterNights, Enemy Territory, and Americas Army all perfectly fine on Linux.
Just because game companies aren't supporting it as much, does not mean it's not a viable platform.

He's probably taking a required asm course, and they chose x86 (not the poster). And WTF; RDC or VNC? Is ssh broken or something?

With all the "live" data Google has, I'm sure they can make a sizable sandbox to play in...
