I believe it's only able to be *faster* in tight computational loops. From the sounds of it this is where the JIT can do a good job. Startup time for any Java app is ass. Memory allocation speeds seem like ass as well. Any application that doesn't perform the same thing over and over again performs like ass.
And all the while everything is running, it consumes RAM like it's going out of style. Adding to the entire system now feeling like ass.
I don't pretend to know. But the price of crude has a lot to do with the production rates of OPEC (they control much of the 'scarcity' of oil). And OPEC is cutting back on production lately.
It's probably a java Applet. I was at weather.com the other day, and it downloaded a bloody applet and ran a small video in it (complete with sound!). F'ing obnoxious. Time to disable the 'ol Java Applets in Firefox...
This may mean that bigger authorities than the RIAA may throw their hat into the ring for fighting P2P networks, among other things.
Yes, among other things. Like stopping crime by getting wire-taps on criminals. This does happen to be an area of interest for the FBI. Most of them could give a shit about somebody downloading the latest pop album.
That is *sooo* clever! Did you think of this all by yourself? I've hardly ever seen a post like this here before! I mean, I've seen it for a *lot* of stories, but the way you used it on an April Fools post is genius! You are too clever! I was just reading the posts to this story, thinking *exactly* what you said and *boom*, there it is! You should be modded up a lot for this insightful yet clever post! Maybe even funny! Thank you for this little pearl of wisdom!

I highly doubt that Sun's 'Grid Engine' is as easy to install and use as distcc is though. Though it does sound interesting.
That seems a little bit different from just plain 'censorship' of free speach though, given that the case is about export laws. Note that he's still allowed to talk about the case freely. He's also allowed to disclose his cryptography to any US citizen, just not to 'foreigners'. Granted the gov't case doesn't make sense, but I don't think I'd consider this quite as serious as the China case...
The export laws just seem like the government getting 'used to' this new Internet thingy.
What indie sites are you talking about? People here are always bitching about U.S. censorship gone awry, do you have any examples of such? Is it all 'questionable porn' that's been taken off-line? Or some dude's home page where he just talks about how he dislikes the Gov't?
As far as I know the KKK still has a website, and they're pretty universaly hated...
People keep saying this... AFAIK "escape velocity" is the "muzzle velocity" a projectile would need to start with in order to escape the Earths gravity. But this doesn't apply to a projectile that accelerates with it's own power (ie. rocket).
See, the major problem I have with your argument is that it's based on an unknown - That the child will lead an aweful life. Using this argument abortion almost becomes euthanasia. It's a mercy killing. But there is now way to *know* that the child will have an aweful life. Some people may 'freak out' a bit at the prospect of having a child when they don't expect to, and yet be fantastic parents! I personally know somebody who had a child when she was 15. She's 30 now. She married the man, and her son is growing up very nicely. I'm sure many things went through her mind at first (still in High School? Can I do this?) though...
Also, who defines 'bad enough conditions' to kill the fetus? Would you want other people determining whether your life is 'worth living'?
this light, I think its better that a life is aborted rather than adding yet another burden on earth.
This is one of the most common, and worst, arguments I've seen *for* abortion. Using this line of reasoning, you can kill just about anybody who is miserable. Why not wait until the child is born, then kill him? What is the difference? You're saying that a person doesn't deserve life because they might be a bit miserable? They may be happy! They may live a long and full life! Why would you gamble a life on such a vague rason?
No, this argument is just a facade for "I'm too selfish to put myself out for a child." And personal selfishness is *no* grounds for (what I consider) murder.
The problem is, the only person who *should* have the choice of whether the child lives or dies, is the child. And you have to let him/her live in order for him/her to make that decision on their own. Most people do indeed want to live. Our species wouldn't live very long if we didn't...
I'm still very confused as to what evidence you ever wanted presented. You're the one who's resorted to name calling and 'bitch-slapping'. Get over the 'murder' thing. Seriously. You could almost have a decent conversation if you didn't nit-pick the *HELL* out of everything.
I said several times. *I* consider abortion murder. I don't give a fuck what you say the law says in this regard. It's a fucking opinion. Deal with it. We're not in a court of law. Abortion *should* be murder.
The *only* reason I replied to you on the abortion thing (I wasn't going to because it's a friggin hot-potato) is because you claimed my argument was a fallacy. It was not. Emotional arguments can be true too you know. If I killed you, your loved ones may call me a murderer. They'd be no less correct no matter how emotional they are. There is no appeal to emotion made in my original argument.
I will agree that according to the stated law, abortion is legal, and thus not murder in the eyes of the law. I'm not the law, however, and I consider it to be murder. Deal.
I also will clarify that I do believe in capital punishment, but that is done for "good reasons" (I don't want to get into a debate on it, just accept that I have well-defined reasons for this). You can't tell me a fetus has done anything wrong to deserve the death penalty.:-) I make the assumption that a fetus is 'innocent' by default, thus not deserving of death, yet still a living human being. No inconsistancies here.
You fail to mention the people pushing these laws are the same ones who want to ban abortion in large part. It's just them "rallying the dominoes" (to borrow from a christian band).
I did, but I didn't think it was relevant. My point was that the definition of murder is not concrete. It's actively being debated now.
There is a difference between dying and being killed you know. One is *willingly taking the life of another." I'll leave it to you to decide which is which... This is so fucking off topic now... Killing fetuses is such a hot topic...

Do I hear a bit of jealousy at the US gas prices?
And if I boot from a floppy, the copy over my own passwd/shadow files?
No machine is secure if you have physical access to the box.
Like 'MikeRoweSoft' you mean?
I don't pretend to know. But the price of crude has a lot to do with the production rates of OPEC (they control much of the 'scarcity' of oil). And OPEC is cutting back on production lately.
Or... It could be that the price of crude has been steadily rising as well?
Or the number of people named 'Paul' who are islamic terrorists...
The difference here is, that he says these things with 'authority' whereas most people with a 'casual interest in DRM' do not.
Their source code is in the SourceForge CVS. SF is taking a beating right now, but the developer mentions that it's in there on this site.

Too bad we can't moderate the articles...

Mods if you have any mercy, mark this as the flamebait it is...

I'm not trolling, but we're all off-topic...

That you trust their judgement/skills.
So then your message to the child is that you're an idiot? Why would you trust the judgement of an 8yr old over your own?
Sure, as the child becomes an adult you trust them more and more. But that's not the issue. I didn't say that full-grown adults should be monitored.
Nit-picky post there. Nicely avoids the subject though.
