The Gentoo install really isn't that bad. It's sad to see Gentoo being flamed quite often. I'm an avid member on the Gentoo forums and you have no idea how many people can't even correctly create a kernel without the help of Gentoo's Genkernel. Sometimes even then they manage to screw it all up. Me thinks maybe its not such a bad installation process....maybe it's the people who 'try' to install it.

Fuck you Myspace, and fuck your lame admins, users (DOH, i'm one of them..) and all the companies that shove their ad's down our throats just by trying to view their page. Find something better to do than run a very brilliant coder through legal hell and back because you cant man up to the fact that your coders/admins don't know what they are doing. His worm was put out there AFTER it was patched/or patch provided. Hmm.....Who's fault is it now that everything was exploited? I used firefox when I learned about the worm from Samy.....Never got me ;)
If you still search on google, for the string 'and most of all, samy in my hero' on myspace.com theres TONS of people who still haven't changed the code in their 'hero's portion..

  6. War on Civil Rights. on The Technology of Drug Prohibition · · Score: 1

I, for one, am so tired of hearing about the 'war on drugs'.
America has their war on drugs, we have more people in jail for non violent drug related 'crimes' than any other country has in their jail systems. Most of these are just for possession! What about countries like Amsterdam where pot, and schrooms are legal? Do they have streets full of junkies, out of control crime, and full prisons? The answer is No! They view drug addictions as a medical issue, not a criminal one. They have a much better medical system in Europe, and a better way of dealing with drugs and those addicted to them. Maybe because they are way more ahead of the times than America is?
People are scared about drugs, more than likely because they have no clue what they really are about. All we see is the anti drug commericals on tv, (you have to remember the one with the egg and frying pan) the D.A.R.E programs in our schools, (I think kid's should DARE to learn the unbiased truth about drugs instead of listening to a stupid cop who probably does the training because he/she hates their desk job and want to get out for a while), etc.
I personally see no problems with the use of some illegal drugs as long as it's in moderation. I've done drugs, and will continue to do them. Because I'm smart enough to know which ones to stay away from, and when to stop. I think that's the big problem with most people, they don't know when to stop. Look at the overwhelming number of obese people in America. Look at the gambling addicts. They don't know when to stop.
So thank you America, for harnessing my rights, telling me what I can and cannot do to my own body, in my own time, in the privacy of my own home.

I don't think anyone has ever had a better arguement about the war on drugs than the late, and great Bill Hicks. Think about what he says, it really makes sence.
The late, great stand-up comedian Bill Hicks perhaps put it best when he said: "Alcohol's legal. They push alcohol 24 hours a day on TV. They push it down your throat -- drink beer, drink beer, drink beer. Why? Well, cause it makes you stupid, slow, and docile, and that's the way we like you to be... I've actually seen beer commercials during War Against Drugs specials. Cigarettes, legal. Alcohol, legal. Kill more people than all other illegal drugs combined times one thousand. They are illegal. Marijuana, a drug that kills... no one... and let's put it in a time frame... ever... marijuana's against the law."

I could fill up 30 more pages with quotes that fit this subject. If you don't know about Bill Hicks....You have some reading to do ;) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Hicks http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Bill_Hicks

And, finally, there's a reason rent and property are so expensive in some areas. Go to California and look out of the window. Rumor has it that other parts of the world have a condition called Seasonal Affective Disorder. Land is expensive in California because you never shovel snow, you rarely deal with crazy humidity, you rarely have the insane heat of Arizona, you rarely get mosquitoes the size of Volkswagens and you can sit on the beach on New Year's Day. In short, supply and demand means that when there's a crazy price, there's generally a great reason for it.
There's plenty of parts of CA that you have to shovel snow.... I live in an area in CA that has crazy humidty, and crazy heat. It's been 115 for a while now, just cooled off a bit to 100 a day or so ago. Yeah, not like Arizona, but Arizona is getting expensive too now. Some of the beaches are nice on 'New Year's Day', but the ones in Mexico are even better than we have in California.....and Mexico is cheaper than living in CA..... You should come visit sometime and see what CA is like. I'd rather pay out the nose in California than live in Texas.......We have better weed, less honkey republicans, and we're a blue state :)

The 2nd week of August is the Linux World Expo in San Francisco. I was there last year, and I'm going again this year. I wouldn't say you'd learn a lot about Linux there, more so learning about new commerical software and new hardware. But any place is good to start, and theres always plenty of opportunities for networking and discussions.

You can always learn Linux like I did. Go get a pound of pot, lots of beer, coffee, make sure Google.com is accessable, and (wish I had this when I started learning) the forums at http://forums.gentoo.org/ are imo the best place online for Linux help. (Using gentoo or not).

Your best friend will be man pages. Good luck in your Linux learning!
