There's a book mostly intended as a resource for sf writers, What if the Moon didn't Exist?, which details many of the poor consequences for creatures like us given the absence of a large moon for earth. Its been years, but I remember two of the big ones.
First, without tidal interaction with a large moon, the earth would spin a great deal faster on its axis, resulting in much stronger and consistent winds. It would be hard for anything to be more than a few inches tall except in the windshadow of tall mountains, which themselves would erode much faster.
Second, without the tides, the transition from ocean life to land life would have been much more difficult, since there would be nothing like tidal pools to serve as temporary havens and opportunities for the creatures making that transition.
I don't know about the situation for Linux, but for Mac OS Internet Explorer 6.x or higher doesn't even exist. It's odd for a "techno-geeek" to be as Microsoft-centric as WalMart is.
Maybe you need to set your threshold a little higher, because the only posts I've seen remotely fitting your description are those which ask what the big deal is when a high school freshman makes out with a high school senior. The vast majority have been defenses of MySpace on grounds of the impossiblility of verying age on line, remonstrations against the parents for not properly supervising their daughter, or lamentations that regardless of how the facts of the case are adjudicated, this guy is screwed.
And maybe you should RTFA, because the guy isn't charged with rape or attempted rape or stautory rape, only sexual assault--a serious crime, to be sure, but not rape.
except in the the trivial case that there were eggs of some sort before there were chickens of any sort. Ring species http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ring_species illustrate why.
The first bird that might have successfully bred with today's chickens--was a member of the same species, by the most common definition--could also have bred with other members of its population which could not have bred with today's chickens--birds of different species from today's chickens by the same definition. It just isn't the case that one day (or some place) there's this thing which is a member of a new species. With what would such a thing breed?
