  1. Re:Just Because Techies Are Excited... on PS3 Predicted to Lead Market Through 2011 · · Score: 0

It's sad that you are resorting to a personal attack! Sorry if I like the name "XpLiCiT" but that was taken. You Nintendo / Sony / Microsoft fanboys just get SO excited when someone thinks contrary to you - it's absolutely hilarious. I didn't say Zelda was a stupid game, I just said it lost its appeal to me AFTER I turned 10/11. The Wii is a niche product, no matter how you try and spin it. The super casual gamer is a NICHE MARKET, yes I said it twice. The casual gamer (think PC) still wants to have great GFX and plays FPS / RPGs.

And I will say it again, I don't think the remote will not work well with FPS - not that the joystick is a great alternative either.

  2. Just Because Techies Are Excited... on PS3 Predicted to Lead Market Through 2011 · · Score: -1, Flamebait

About the Wii doesn't mean it's going to sell. Yes, they may be able to acquire some of the unrealized market, but the real money is in hardcore gamers. Mom and Pop may buy a Wii (.... maybe) but then only 1/2 games and it will collect dust. The average Xbox360 owner already has 4.6 games (I have 3). The Wii remote will be a fad - who honestly wants to wave that around, and good luck using it in FPS games. What about the online experience - that is where games are moving going forward! You can't even argue that when you look back at the last ten years. You are also fooling yourself to assume the games will be more fun on the Wii as opposed to games on Xbox360/PS3! It's all about what you like. Mario sux0rs to me - but Mom or the kid next door can have fun with it if they want. Zelda was cool, but has lost appeal to me since SNES "A Link to the Past." Xbox360 and PS3 are certainly going to lead the pack. Whether or not you like it, marketing and hype is what sells consoles. I don't see any Wii hype anywhere but on Digg and Slashdot. Sorry.

If this was the PS3 or the Xbox360, you would probably be bashing it.

  4. The Big Picture on Zune - Microsoft Killer or Next Apple Victim? · · Score: 1

I think what everyone is missing is where the Zune fits in to Microsoft's big picture. They are looking to grow revenues by spreading to other markets. The catch is that with their solid OS market, they can INTEGRATE these markets unlike any other. Live Anywhere anyone? The Zune will play a huge part in that. With the WiFi built in, you may be able to order a song via your cell phone and have it downloaded by your zune, or maybe your Xbox360, or maybe WMP11, or maybe your PocketPC. I can't believe that you all don't see the value (and the foresight MS is using) in having a one-stop-shop (fully integrated). And, unlike most of /. cynics, there are not too many other companies than Microsoft that I would love to see spearheading a project of this magnitude. If this works out, you may just want to buy some Microsoft stock!

The "copy" the hackers are givin probably will contain trojans and all kinds of monitoring processes so they can see what they are actually doing. This way, they get the information even if they don't report it, and become familiar with their processes.

  6. Never on The Games Industry In China · · Score: 1

The Chineese will never have a thriving industry based on creativeness (gaming, software design, etc.) until they iron out their MONSTEROUS IP problems. There is simply no incentive to create IP in China as you have absolutely no protection. Honestly, it helps the rest of the world. SHHH, don't tell them.

  7. Re:Closed Source is everywhere on The Future of Closed Source Software and Linux · · Score: 1

I really don't understand that comment. You are obviously so biased against closed source and Microsoft that you can't even cede him that point. The truth of the matter is that a very small fraction of corporate / wealthy home users care about the Linux crusade. They are the ones with money. They understand and have learned Microsoft products. They will go with what they know, Linux *is not* superior to Microsoft products for home use, regardless of the security concerns. I would love to see how badly Linux got dismantled if the number of hackers attacking Microsoft products suddenly switched to Linux. Oh BTW, those of you who are Americans and bash Microsoft, remember that they are a great overseas revenue generator for America (one of the few, look at our trade imbalance). How can you not support that?
