I'm all for freedom of information. But in this instance, what reason do we have to release it to people that aren't working at research labs? Why would the hobbyist need access to this? I agree, we need to release this to researchers so we can develop a vaccine. But can a person who's not working at a serious research facility develop a vaccine before the eco-terrorist with basic biology skills develop a weaponized form of the virus? I'm not an SME on the field, but I'd bet that the answer is no.

And for all those saying you guns can kill people or that nuclear technology can kill people. First off, a gun kills a few, maybe tens of people at a time, at most. A weaponized virus will kill millions, tens of millions, or hundreds of millions at a time. And as for nuclear technology, it takes substantial infrastructure to weaponize nuclear technology. It only takes a home lab to weaponize a biological threat. So please, stop comparing apples and oranges.

The government has no reason to prevent this information from getting to legitimate research institutions. In fact, they've already said that they want this to go to legitimate research institutions. They'res just trying to prevent this from getting in the hands of the religious nut that wants to start the second coming of christ or the eco-terrorist that feels humans should be exterminated from this planet.

If the terrorists have a grasp of biology, and the resources at the level they would be able to actually do these things

Its not the smart terrorists that are of concern. I don't think groups like the Taliban, Al Qaida, etc would be crazy enough to do something like this. Its the at home ecoterrorist or crazy Christian that wants to start the second coming of Christ that scares me. This type of research previously required a masters of Phd in the field to put together this virus. Now they want to release a paper that would make it easy enough for a bio major with a bachelor's and a basic kit capable of releasing said virus. No thanks.

Why can't they just release it to specific organizations that have a need for this kind of research like pharmaceutical companies and specific research labs? Why does the whole world need to have this info?

Some call it security through obscurity... so after you've hardened your network, do you publish a map of your network infrastructure public for the whole world to see? I mean, not doing that would be security though obscurity too wouldn't it?

first off, i already told you in this post that your understanding of "dog whistle" is wrong. so for one second, try to stop being such a fucking idiotic twat and educate yourself.

secondly, in my earlier post, i stated very clearly that the overall problem is:

the education our children are getting is substandard, especially when compared to numerous other countries.

unfortunately, that wasn't specific enough for you. but you know what? you never said to be spe-fucking-cific you stupid ass. but not to worry, two paragraphs later in the same fucking post i stated for you the specific problems. i.e.:

we have a system where kids only go to school 6 hours a day, 1 of which is physical education and one of which is recess/lunch time. that leaves only 4 hours of actual class time instruction. to top that off, they don't go to school for 2 or 3 weeks during the winter and 3 months during the summer because they need some sort of break.

but since clearly not smart enough to extract the problem i'm implying, its that the students are only getting 4 hours of instruction a day which isn't enough. i then followed with this specific problem...

the good teachers are not getting compensated enough. the only ones doing a good job are the ones that actually have a passion for just teaching; and there aren't enough of those types of people in the US to educate all our children. all the other smart people are going into the private sector where they're getting paid double or triple what teachers are getting paid.

the problem is the very first fucking sentence. hopefully you're smart enough to figure out that one. then finally, i listed this specific problem..

although its not really a school system problem, the american culture likes to tag smart people with derogatory terms like geek and nerd and they actually get teased in school.

so yes, i know what the fuck specific means and i even listed it out for you but your minuscule brain clearly couldn't discern what the fuck i was trying to say. so hopefully this post cleared it up for your stupid ass. now shut the fuck up and go back to grammar school. maybe the second time around, you'll actually learn how to comprehend stuff you read.
