    This guy registered OpenSSH before OpenSSH was announced.
    He has since registed freessh.org instead, he did that on the 15th of October.
    This guy is realy working for the community providing services to find free crypto tools.

    This guy has clearly no evil intent.
    I'm a OpenBSD and OpenSSH user my self, this guy lets people know that there are more free, or open if you like, SSH tools out there.

    Rambus (Inc.) is a company!

    They(Rambus Inc.) have designed a memory type called DRDRAM that only uses a 16bit wide external databus, and 8*16bit wide bus internaly.
    As always when it comes to Intel it's only MHz that counts, not what they do with those. DRDRAM can handle 800MHz but as the bus is only 16bit wide it wont be very much faster than the 64bits(At most twise.).

    I'd put my money on SLDRAM, it will be atleast twise as fast as DRDRAM and is, unlike DRDRAM, an open standard. SLRAM shouldn't have a problem doing 3GB/s+, at much lower clock speeds.

    Since this clearly was a known problem I think it should have been mentioned in the afterboot manual page in OpenBSD.
    Ok, now it's fixed, but it would have been nice to know about it when we needed to know, i.e. pre-fix, now is a little late.

    Installing BeOS on Windows removes much of it's strenght, the filesystem is the main reason it's so good for video editing.
    Video editing is, atleast for me, what symbolizes a true media platform, like Amiga once was.

    Because every line of code has been audited.
    It's the distribution as a whole that makes it secure, because everything you could want on a server has been tested.

    If you add something that has not been included you remove SOME security.
    But you still got the general OpenBSD design to protect you, you get mailed about changes in configfiles etc.

    In the end I would say that it's the way the system has been designed that makes it so good,
    and of course the auditing.

    I run one of my old modified Linux 1.0.6 kernels on one of the desktops.
    Why? Because it does what I want it to, and does it well.
    But I would NEVER use Linux as a server OS because of it's bad networking performance, security etc etc.

    And as I wrote, but you where to ignorant to read, it all comes down to what you will use the OS for...

    One of the most obvious reasons are the ridiculously long syncs of Extended Filesystem 2.
    If, sorry, WHEN your Linux box crashes(all boxes do, sooner or later) you will most probably lose data.

    There are several other reasons why Extended Filesystem 2 is much less secure, but that's on a more technical level and I for one don't have time to explain it. Just look at the code.

    Extended Filsystem 2 is very useful for desktops but is not a serious alternative for servers.
    (The same can be said about Linux in general.)

    As always, it all comes down to what you will use your box for.
    If you use and like Linux, don't worry about, be happy with what it does well. Because you did not pick your OS because of the filesystem, did you?

    And Extended Filesystem 3 will be out soon anyways...

    There have been serveral "indian" tribes in the world that changed the shape of the human head(starting at birth), because they thought it looked better.
    It's not wierder than the people that stretches the necks, because they think it looks better.
    Or the people in china that wraps the feet of the female children to keep the them small as the bodies grow.
    All of these things might seam freaking wierd and cruel, but who are we to say so...

    Fight nature with nature.

    Viruses evolves(there are several - /several/ - thousands of different HIV viruses, they increase every day) much faster than modern medicine ever will, so it's good to use them as they are never ending resource(or plague if you like).

    The reason the body has such a hard time fighting HIV is because of the rate the viruses evolve, the immunesystem can't keep up.

    I suggested this, and I guess alot of others did too.
    That's what I really like about the BSD community,
    they listen to the users and developers.

    Now, if we only could get a database for porting the few Linux apps(and drivers) that isn't avail(i.e doesn't work) on BSD.

    As always, just my $0.02.

    The reason fewer people reply is not because they don't read it (look at DDN. Few replies, lots more article submissions).

    Stupid me, didn't think of that :)

    BSD users just don't seem as quick to chip in mass rants in the forums as quickly.

    Yes, that generally seams to be the case.

    Oh, and the rest of the segments are the same way.

    Love it.

    The 'interesting' articles show on the main, and the sections have lots of others that are neglected. This is one reason I don't think BSD should be on just BSD OSes, but on all BSD (ie Apache) so there's more diversity, and its not ignored. Otherwise, its just an excuse by slashdot that they do show BSD news, but instead they manage it in a fashion so that no one ever sees it.

    I don't really know if I think that's a good or a bad thing, I'll guess I have to see it first.

    The game you refer to as "Xor" was released on Amiga under the name of "Prospector in the Mazes of Xor", it was made by Logotron.

    I think you should contact Logotron about legal issues, if you want to use their levels that is.
    And I honestly don't know if there is a clone for X of it.

    Yes exactly.

    BTW, I think it should show up on the mainpage that there are a new story in the BSD section,
    other than just the date on the right(I think the date should be shown to the right or below each section title, as it is now it might be confusing for some people.).
    I know there are alot of guys using BSD on Slashdot, but they can apperently can not find the BSD section, or simply doesn't know it's been updated.

    Nik, how about a new segment(on the right on main page) that shows the most recent BSD news in this section? Just like the "Ask Slashdot"-segment.

    Oh, and just a thought.

    Why don't we use "Ask Slashdot"?
    I think people might have some good ideas,
    lets just hope there won't be any trolls.

    It's nice, but why limit it to FreeBSD?
    I have always considered *BSD to be ONE community.
    FreeBSD would help it self by helping NetBSD and OpenBSD.
    All of the above borrows from the others, this should include drivers too.
    By having one database for developing *BSD drivers we would all benefit.

    Just my $0.02.

    How come that when we talk about Windows someone always complains that
    Windows forces everyone to get faster and more powerful hardware?

    It is actually games, like iD's, that makes it so.

    And why should only games be limited to use new hardware and not new "features" for Windows?
    Sure, I don't want, or need, those bloated features... or Windows for that matter,
    but someone obviously do.

    Just curious.
    I'm interested to see what you all have to say about this subject.
