when reading about the Red Hat Summit, did anyone else wonder if he was going to be sitting around with a bunch of elderly women wearing red hats and purple boas?
"Online Only" guarantees a sale, or attempts to. it guarantees you won't be buying it from another store or website while you still have the power to buy it somewhere else only a mouse-click away. it's more crucial that they get your attention then, as you are far less inconvenienced to go elsewhere (type compuplus.com, jr.com, newegg.com in your browser) as you are to leave the store, get back in your car, & drive to Fry's or wherever the next emporium of electronic crap is in your area, let alone put up with THEIR sales policies.
he said 1.5 cents tho, not 2 pennies. i'd think the price of an opinion would increase with inflation, thereby requiring 2.5, 3, or any amount of cents higher than 2 to denote such an increase.

but then i thought about it. think of a guy who's dating a girl. likes the girl. the girl is wonderful. gorgeous, intelligent, talented, hilarious. sweet as fuck. but she's competitive. she's a winner. she's ambitious. -shit, you know what, aside from this, fuck all that, she's FEMALE. which means she's more attracted to guys who other girls are attracted to. you know what i'm talking about. you're single, no love. but as SOON as you're with someone, EVERY girl you meet wants a piece of you.
now picture this: guy calls up REAL girl on wednesday to say hi. he asks her 'hey babe, i want to take you to this place, Asia de Cuba... it's at the Mondrian..' & she replies 'i think we're just gonna have a girls' night out', or 'i'll have to see what's going on, i'll let you know if i'm free', or ANY OTHER LAME ASS EXCUSE you've heard before.
so the guy 'buys' a 'friend' off this site. nice respectable, well-stacked brunette cutie, not onlike the girl he's dating. saturday night rolls around. he turns his cell phone off. he's at home playing WoW, or getting his 1st Gen Tivo to run Ubuntu (yes i'm pandering, sue me.) but monday rolls around. he gets a comment on his myspace from FAKE girl saying something innocent, yet threatening (he's not a dog, but he's also a hot commodity) to the extent of 'hey babe, thank you so much for taking me to Asia de Cuba (at which point Real girl says 'fuck, that's where he was gonna take me') saturday night... i had a wonderful time.. can't stop playing it back in my head!"
oh you've been there before. thinking 'if she'd only get to know me more...' or after shit went pear-shaped, 'if i wasn't so available to her all the time..' ad infinitum... instead of the girl thinking you were expendable, & too busy thinking about HER options... if she were worrying about YOUR options instead, you'd be damn sure she'd take a bit more time, to get to know, the "real you".

i think so. the difference here is that apple not only makes the os, but the hardware as well - therefore drivers won't be a problem. benefits will also be noticed within the software apple produces as well, namely the Pro apps, & whatever else.
it seems oftentimes when one must rely on various different vendors to get together & cooperate & decide on anything, even if they make a great product they tend not to play nice with others. a lot of people are afraid of getting 'locked in' to a particular company but apple's a great example of how, for lack of a better description, a 'closed system' can work beautifully.
random, but, about a month ago, my brother bought an espresso machine. the 'Nespresso' or whatever. i had argued with him to the death about getting 'trapped' & having to buy the Pods from Nestle. you can only use their pods. so against my wishes he went out & bought the thing. honestly, i was blown away. the coffee's actually orgasmic, & the price of both the machine & the pods is actually really competitive compared to other options. it's also easy to prepare and keep clean. for lazy spoiled people such as myself, it's a godsend. i had to apologize to and commend him for buying something i was happy with in the end.
i'm very much WARY of proprietary methods (uh, DRM anyone?) and i've not been too happy with Sony as a company, but that's another story. my point is that apple, and my espresso machine are, if at the very least, exceptions to the rule, they are still examples of a cohesive, seamless, inclusive environment, where everything just 'works', & works beautifully, without necessarily fucking the consumer in the ass.
