We have now reached a point where "Easy to Use" is no longer an issue and specialization (i was looking forward to Undead Linux but they went away). There are more and more distros/sub-distros that are providing more and more specific customizations out of the box. These distros are not for people who have using linux for years, they are for people who just want to use their computer without having to work at it. This can be easily done with linux and on their OLD computers. I have converted a few people starting with just FOSS, then when they too easily get their windows systems compromised I show them Mint, Mepis, Linspire, Ubuntu/Kubuntu/Xubunt/Edubuntu, and yes I have checked out Granular, it is nice. Most people just want to go on web, get their email, watch videos, play games, type a document. And any of the distros out there allow this with little or no fuss.

But I also think that perhaps the congress critters that are worried we are falling behind infrastructurally, may have hinted at dropping investigations and maybe even a little free gubmint money to help "upgrade" the public infrastructure. Indeed. And the other benefit is that .... AT&T is now the SPY ISP attempting to pick through traffic and block your downloads. it stops when the shows don't get watched or listened to. HBO & Showtime cater to certain markets, and some of the network broadcast shows want access to that clientèle. This works the same for violence as far as i am concerned, turn it off if you do not like it, write to the sponsors of the shows, this was the way stuff got done prior to Bush 'n Co. appointments. Let society check itself. Shows like Mojo Nixon's Lyin' Cocksuckers, Bill Maher's Realtime, and Penn 'n Teller's Bullshit, are all great shows that use expletives within the context of their show and should be seen/heard on regular stations everyone has access to not just for those who can afford it. Plus they are doing the ultimate nanny-state shuck and jive, if parents don't know or "can't" monitor what their child watches/listens to, why do i have to be stopped from seeing/hearing? The Lenny Bruce quote says it all, and that is their real fear, they are doing this to make their own "Speech Free" zone, the opposite of what tv/radio should be, a FREE SPEECH zone.

If i did not get snort alerts, i would rarely go into the many ipcop routers i have setup using discarded e-machines. 20. Re:Here we go again... on SP1 Unsuccessful in Preventing Vista Hacks · · Score: 2, Interesting

Unless you have had your head in the sand for the last 15 years, Microsoft has gotten most of their popularity from the fact that you only had to buy one copy of the software. Office has took over because of it's ease of installation on multiple stations without "needing" to buy more copies; same with Win3.1 WinNT Win95 Win98 and WinME. In fact a couple of shops in the area got busted numerous times for selling "pirated copies" (actually they were real serial numbers but they were used more than once), in fact the perception ( i got a client that thought that because the WinXP license was for 2 processors he could legally install it on 2 machines).

My point here is that Microsoft after taking incredibly long time (even longer than Debian, not quite as long as DukeNukem), to come out with the Vista release they had to go with what they knew worked in getting Vista out there in great numbers, thus THEY RELEASED the bios hack, thinking they would shut it off with the first service pack... :D Looks as though they were wrong again...

Microsoft owes its profits to piracy and if people actually have to start paying and paying full price for their shit, then that is when they begin the long hard slide to the bottom. Commence.
