Point is, the more commercial support there is the more hardware/software/resources linux can get. Thus making it better. Look at IBM, they're doing TONS of stuff for Linux, keeping it all opensourse and free. They're not in it for the bottom line (well unlitmatly they are, better os gives their hardware an edge) they're in it to make Linux better and to get more support for more hardware.
It also makes people realize that linux is a real os and not something only hacker weenies use and that they should release specs and drivers for their hardware. --
Well like I said to the other comment.. If you already have a Dreamcast. And somebody came out with a CD that gave you set top box programs (all nice and opensource) they would take off. Linux and NetBSD already run on it, it can be to far behind to have a nice email app and web browsing app. --
I find this to be somewhat true. I think the biggest thing is the maturity level and HOW you bring up ideas/changes. If you document everything clearly and lay it all out you'll get a good response. Being younger I think you have to do more work then somebody older but I think that's because they come accross as having more experience. --
Yeah, but some peopld don't want a computer in their living room. The DC is already there, it has more then enough power, you don't need a whole other machine.
I'm speaking more in terms of people that already have a DC. If you have one already it's the cost of the ethernet adapter, some cable, and once the sofware to do all this is around just a CD to burn. That's got to be less then the cost of a whole new machine with a TV out card. --
The dreamcast would make a wonderful settop box. It's got a keyboard, modem, ethernet.. what more could you want? NFS mount you mp3 drive off your linux box and it's an MP3 player too. NFS mount all your videos and play mpegs on your TV.
I think this is all very cool, once they get a good set top suite going for it it would be worth it. Put in your CD and surf the web, check your email... save all your settings (ip address and whatnot) on the VMU and you're good to go...

Humans can NOT see faster then 40fps. Eyes just don't work that fast.
Movies run at 24fps, TV runs at 30fps. Your PS2 or Dreamcast will not run faster then 30fps.
Anything over 40fps is a waste of time and money. --

People that can see the difference between 75fps and 100fps are not human. --
I think that the high rating were because it was new. Expect a drop off this weekends and a consistant decline unless the actual game play gets better. --
Get a cable that can hold 10000lbs for something that actually weighs about 500lbs.. I don't think you'll have much of an issue weight wise. I'm sure the distance is available some where, they have to know what size boats travel through there.
It's not that complicated.
I think rebuilding a car from MANY parts all in one night so that it will be running with the lights on (usually a cop car) takes a lot more skill then that. Plus getting past security and such with car parts.
Oh yeah, that's right.. MIT students care about others, don't want to risk accidents (boats crashing into that stupid bug) and do something harder (how hard is it to tie a car to a rope and toss it off a bridge, try getting a car on top of a building without a crane, now there's a challange).
Napster is just a server people connect to and search thru. When you actually start trading music it's done directly, not thru any napster server. It's basically like IRC with searching. Not overly intensive. --
I get an ISP account from lameisp.net, can I sell my account on lameisp.net to anybody esle. Probably not, most ISPs won't let you transfer your service like that. What's the difference?

I remember reading way back about how they wanted to use the same kid thru his entire life to make it more real. I don't really think that happened, but that's probably part of the reason why it took so long. --
US airspace only reaches X ammount of miles above the earth. I don't remember the exact number but it doesn't go all the way to space.

Perhaps the MPAA made special region 8 DVDs for NASA. That's not something that's totally unbelivable.

Point being this wasn't filed yesterday. I'm sure it was filed before WAP stuff was around.

Sure, it was just granted, but they filed for it YEARS ago. Before everybody had WAP phones and such.

Please check out this link. There is VI for windows.

And BitchX for windows is the same as BitchX for linux, only difference is that it runs in a window and not at a console.

hmm, VI for windows

Wow, Gimp for windows, imagine that.

Wow, IRC for Windows, imagine that.

Because the Direct3d stuff isn't developed by the wine group. it's done by TransGaming. So of course it wouldn't be in the same tree.

Considering BIND isn't in the kernel.....

Umm, Part time UPS employees get full benifits. There was a big teamsters strike about that a few years ago.

Why? because they overheat and shut off. There was also reported problems with the cubes doing this.
