Maybe not "Trekology" per se, but Star Trek can be used as a subject in any course of mythology, semiotics, discourse analysis, etc.
When I was in college, my final project for some Literary Theory class (was it stylistics?) was about "The Ketchup Song".
Postmodern linguistics treat everything as a text, so there is nothing surprising about choosing Star Trek as a subject.
I've done the IMing-my-brother-to-dinner many times. I think using my laptop in bed actually improved my communication with my family. I can call him "loser" when I'm behind the computer and my bedroom door is locked. I can't do that face to face.
(MS Spell Check comment aside,)
what's wrong about using an existing word to describe something else? Aren't people smart enough to descipher, according to context, whether a text is referring to a pluton -as defined in geology- or a pluton -as defined in astronomy?
I thought I was the one abusing my computer so that the wire frayed... no I know it's not my fault. I bought a replacement, and while it is not white and cute and all that Apple is, it works much better than the original.

Decimality has nothing to do about it. I suppose the comment was about using the International System of Units.

*Measuring* systems. You are still using miles.
As cool as an aquarium full of mermaids, of course.
As long as you do not become a Scientologist...
