  1. Re:The Global warming link is irrelevant... on Running out of Hurricane Names · · Score: 2, Interesting

It is true there will always be hurricanes and natural disasters, the question however is how you can reduce the impact of these events. Earthqaukes in California resulted in the strenghting of building codes, as did the the recent land slides. These actions will not have any immediate effects, but will help when the next quake happens.

By your standards we should abandon all long term ideas and only focus on the short term; and where if anywhere has that got us?

You yourself agree that global warming is real. So why not start taking action that will help the long term side by side with short term options. Yes disasters will happen and nothing you ever will do will stop those. But you cannot loose sight of what might hapen in the future.

so your first line "it's completely irrelevant" is truely irrelavent.

    Just my two cents.

Actually, Brighthouse is owned by Advance/Newhouse which last time I checked was a publishing company. That said, The Areas currently serviced by Bright house were actually serviced by Time Warner. It was a joint venture betweek Advance/Newhouse and Time Warner when the company originally started. Since then Its been compleatly run by Advance/Newhouse.

  4. Re:European VoIP? on VoIP Price War Declared · · Score: 1

I think Lingo provides international numbers. But its at an extra cost. Some people I know off have just bought there service in various overseas markets and then just used them over here. Depending upon the plans offered by the VoIP companies some don't charge you anything to some charging you STD call rates for moving the phone out of the country. There are also some people who trade/exchange services. I would check the VoIP forums at dslreports. I think that's where I read about that.
    Hope that helps.

  5. Re:Er, so what's the point? on Xfce: Alternative to GNOME/KDE · · Score: 1

The point is all about alternatives.. I have been through the windmill of Desktops when I first installed Linux on my box..

I hated the Gnome desktop, It was slow, too much like windows, and filled with options that took me ages to work the way I wanted them.. I switched to Afterstep then KDE and finally stayed with Window Maker for about a year.. After the new releases I found that even Window Maker was starting to run slow on my P 133..

I can't explain the fact that I enjoy the fact that I can choose and be selective about how I see my screen when I log on..

I have been using Xfce for about three months, and I don't think I could go back to any other desktop.. Had it not been for this re-invention of the wheel, I would never have been satisfied with they way my desktop looks.

  6. Other Alternatives to Netscape/Mozilla on IE For FreeBSD · · Score: 2
Its not true that IE, Netscape/Mozilla are the only choices out there (for X), There is also Opera. True that at the current moment that releases are only found for Linux, but it wont be long before it gets ported to BSD.

On a side note, a update of how the software is going can be found on http://www.operasoftware.com/linux/ind ex.html

This isn't ment to be flame or anything, its ment to be informitive. It would be nice to see more options available for any OS.
