There's noise in bittorrent? Weird. I always thought that anyone who was on a torrent was...well...contributing to the signal. The only noise would be those using TOR or something like it, which would be trivial to filter.

And suddenly every patent produces negative profit just like movies.

No, the profit is exactly the same as it was before. It is simply allocated proportionately as to who invested the money into the research. If 80% public finance research then 80% back to the public. If 80% private research then 80% back to the corporation. That is exactly how business partnerships work for everything else.

You're missing his point. He is referring to "Hollywood Accounting" where in no matter how much money a movie makes, It didn't make any, according to the creative accounting. This keeps them from having to pay a percentage in royalties to nearly everyone involved in the film, as well as giving the studios additional tax write-offs.
    Wiki has a nice summary
Harry Potter films made no money, despite grossing over $1 billion each.
In fact, Dave Proust still isn't getting anything from LucasFilm for playing Darth Vader because Return of the Jedi still isn't profitable.

So just like the movies, patents will suddenly not be making any money, according to creative "Hollywood Accounting."

I love this nonsensical gem in the article you linked:

  22. Re:Turnabout is fair play. on CCTV Hack Takes Casino For $33 Million · · Score: 5, Insightful

The only part of the casino where they ever permit people to be profitable without being lucky, is the slots. The slots will have the pay schedule on the front of the machine, and sometimes you find some machines where they're set to pay out more than they take in. They'll usually be up front near the door to try and entice suckers to come and gamble. And they're usually video poker where if you play perfectly, you can expect a small profit over time.

(disclaimer: I work in the gaming industry)
That might be true in unregulated or poorly regulated gaming markets. Some Indian gaming casinos have no state oversight.
However, in the larger markets, such as here in Las Vegas it is completely a myth that casinos will put the "looser" machines near the door, end of the aisles, etc.
They are disallowed from changing the odds of it "hitting" and they will NEVER allow a machine on the floor that pays out more than it takes in. And they don't need to...people come in play them regardless if someone near the door hits.
Also, slots are about the worst in terms of probability.

And they're usually video poker where if you play perfectly, you can expect a small profit over time.

Um...no. But the Casino can expect to make a large profit over time.
There isn't really anything like "play perfectly" but you might "get lucky" once in a while and enjoy some small, near term profit. Over the long term, you'll still lose overall.
If it didn't work that way, casinos wouldn't operate them.
