The reason this is so, is because in most places you must be a certified electrician to repair devices that are possible to attach to the grid.
In Australia, if it uses voltages above 32v you are supposed to be a certified electrician (not well enforced, but it is in Australian Standards 3000) except in particular circumstances. So, in situations like a computer where the high voltage is isolated from the grid you can fix to your heart's content. Opening the power supply should only be done by electricians / licensed technicians. Just for laughs, light bulbs should only be inserted by electricians. Yep, you can buy all kinds of electrical spare parts off the shelf, but you can't attach them. Doesn't stop many people 'cept ex-electricians.
Yet, I've used a 1ghz with 512mb ram that worked quite nicely (~ 55% cpu usage, no lag; it is smoother on the same box than many flash sites), intel graphics card yada... It would seem that there is something else going on for those that are finding it too be laggy and high cpu usage. Linux or Windows? the above box is a debian box.
Thunderbird with Lighting extension? It isn't pretty, but it is effective, for me at least. And I do work in a corporate environment exclusively Outlook/Exchange. (there might needs be a calendar/task_manager extension, it's been a while since I set it up.) Here is the portable version that I use.
This the kind of thing that makes me question... why? Sure MSOffice is great, has nifty features and comes with most business computers; OO.o comes with a substantial number of the features of MSOffice as well as a few of its own, cost effectively. OO.o is great for fixing MSOffice faults, true. But if you are know you doing a document that is larger than a quick semi-informal letter, why the hell are *s/geeks/nerds/technocrats* not using latex, or even just Lyx Kile or whatever? Y'know it puts out professional documents, why don't you use it?
Backing up the virus is irrelevant; the re-installer should be doing so from a verifiable clean source followed by an effective anti-malware app.
Sure it would be better to have not backed up the malware initially but it should be surmountable.
Of course, if they weren't running a anti-malware program, they probably weren't backing up either. If they are lucky they haven't cleared their Yahoo! email account out yet.
If they all start with an amalgamation of all the traits world wide (and a few we no longer do) we have today it is most possible. All you need is splinter groups inbreeding or breeding out traits. Such as melanin, eye shape, etc.
If you start with a modern Caucasian, far less likely.
I've read and continue to read the Bible, and incest occurred. These 'other people' you talk of were descended from Adam and Eve. Contrary to the unread beliefs, Adam and Eve had children other than their famous three boys. In the Bible after Noah left the ark the only people available to marry was ones cousins for a considerable time.
That is what I thought was happening, but everyone (that aren't using docs for this) seem to print to pdf rather than ps. Why don't we just use a ps viewer? (I don't because my users don't know what to make of a.pdf let alone a.ps
My users have a managed environment and I'm not supposed to be doing the managing or training, just the support. (IMHO no one is doing the former two, it is assumed to have already been done.) We are given PDFCreator in addition to MS Office.
Unfortunately, I've yet to see people be convinced of the benefits of using Tex/Latex over word processors. Even Lyx is too much for them. No no maths or physics professors here:)
If anyone knows of a simple latex generator that works similar to Office with doc compatibility on WinXP, I'd be grateful for the info. lmgfy gets lyx and kile.
They share the ability to relay patterns we confuse with data. You (and myself, despite my initial wording) understand what when and where various formats should be used.
'Correcting' me on the definitions of the formats doesn't change that the purpose of both formats is to relay information via a method of display. Doc is meant to be printed, yet looks terrible on screen and on paper. PDF is meant to be a structured format supposedly looks the same no matter where it is displayed. To end users they do the same job, display information, and one sometimes looks better than the other.
Of course if you print from a doc to a pdf it will look crap still, which is what my users are doing.
Heh? You don't need to reboot Ubuntu, except when installing a new kernel. Ctrl+Alt+Bkspc fwiw. Yes, it is possible to install and run a new kernel without rebooting, but it is in that case easier to reboot.
Y've never heard of the doc format? Sure it is technically inferior but I'm sure more people use it than pdf. I'm still trying to convince my plebes that if the wish to share information, they should use pdf. They just complain that they don't understand what PDFCreator is.:s So I repeat myself, yet again.
Looks like I wasn't fast enough learning BSD or Solaris :(
Sigh.
Is anyone working on a Plan 9 64bit clone?
I'll put my hand up as being willing to live besides a NPP. I'm satisfied that they are almost as safe as most other ventures we humans engage in.
No, Google.
/.ers go out in the *full* moonlight? Don't you just shrivel up 500,000 times slower?
Before or after the sacrifice of a naked virgin in the full moon with a quicksilver spoon?

Less ads. Someone needs to write a script that detects such pages and redirects to the print version. Heh, someone probably has; I've never looked.
Lyx has been reasonably nice to me.
Come on, since when do hetrosexuals count as a minority?

well played! very nice.

Australia on the other hand just celebrates them all.

But that would be a standard business practice; you watch your competitors, old or new.
For some it is a laugh; for others it is frustrating because they are doing the same as you only cheaper.

You said it so well! I'll add that using Word to eventually print to pdf is a oxymoron anyway.

Ah... how's that again?
