a label-imposed "tax" on those players to cover "stolen content" won't fly.
They're just mad because the Cdn courts ruled that "blank media" taxes to compensate recording companies (which applied to CDs, DVDs, and mp3 players like iPods), wasn't legal, and they had to give the money back. So now they're trying to impose it through browbeating mp3 player manufacturers.
Does this then mean that the RIAA can't sue you for sharing downloaded music from your Zune to any other Zune, since that music has now been paid for?
In Canada the CD levy was successfully argued in court that downloaders were protected since they'd already paid for the music on their overly taxed CD's.
These 2 posts state contradictory court decisions about the Canadian blank media tax.
any one have a link to an article? or can explain it a bit better?
This is not a good precident. I know other countries already have a blank media tax, and I always thought this was ONE way the USA was better off then said countries.
The concept of paying RIAA companies because they are selling something that COULD be ussed to infringe on their copywrites is just a horrible idea.
Even assuming that this is a good idea, the problems are still obvious: Do unsigned bands get a share? what about companies not part of the RIAA? Do gun manufacturers have to proffit share with police (after all, guns could be used to commit crimes), what about with regular citizens, quikymart owners (after all, they are at a higher risk)?
Just because somethign CAN be ussed to to commit an offence does not say that it WILL be.
and as TFS says, if I only use my MP3 player for legitamite purposes, can I seek a refund? (as I am sure that MS is not going to just hand over part of their proffits, they will just include the price in the player).
yah, I noticed the shift to dust2, and it is a slightly better map (you do have a decent amount of options, and it is not as flat), however, just about any map will get boring after a while.
I admit, I used to play on a 24/7 server for TFC, but that was hunted, and you will be hard pressed to find hunted even in a rotation outside of a 24/7 server (and I do love hunted style game modes)
Accessibility. Navigation in a map should be clear.
I actualy think they only got it half right on this one. The basic routes should be clear and easy to get around, however there should be LOTS of strange ways to get around, and these should be hard to find/navigate. This holds especialy true for stealth based games like SC (I have only played the Pandora Tomorow multiplayer, nothing else). lots of different enterances/exits and ways to get to/from said points. Sniping locations, ambush spots, etc etc, the more of these things there are the better.
For the not stealth games you still need to have lots of routes to/from key locations, and lots of interesting locations. Be it a large desert type map (BF sieries) that has ravines/hills/rocks to hide in/take cover behind/etc, or a indoor wwarehouse with multiple enterances/exits and places to take cover.
Variety is they key to making a GOOD map.
Then again, de_dust proves me wrong. 2 paths, one of them sorta splits, with 2 bomb locations. Why dust has managed to stay as one of the most popular CS maps I have no clue. (admitedly I don't know why CS has managed to stay so popular...)
actualy, I browse at 0, as alot of ACs have some rather good posts. (infact I brwse at 0 Nested, so I see even more of these posts)
I still have yet to see anything that was an ad, I have seen pleanty of trolls, but those are not bots. I forgot about the lameness filter, and I admit to being curious if that is catchign things....
instead of obfuscated images, just put in plain text questions. What is 2+2? What is the 3rd word in this sentance? What is the name of my blog?
All of these can be answered by some one using a screen reader, and take less time then figguring out a captch. Sure it does not stop manual spamming, but what does?
Why is it so hard to make a captcha that a bot can't read but a human can?
The slashdot captchas are among the easiest I have ever seen to read, however I still havn't seen any spam on slashdot. Is there something else goign on here? It can't be anything like IP banning or flood controlls as those don't stop botnets. Is it that spammers just don't target slashdot? or is it that captcha reading bots are not nearly that good at breaking them and we could tone down the level of those horrible tiwsted-doted-lined Captchas?
Geek has not had a negative conotation for a long time (especialy in geek subcultures like/.). So lighten up, the guy is just pointing out that only those people that really are into OSS/*nix/alternative OSs/whatever are going to be the ones that never run windows, and yes, geek is a good term for them.
well, the fact that the voting records are not avaliable to the general public? and if some one who does have access to them wants to tamper it is alot cheaper to just start playing with votes manualy then buying them.
Now I can only wonder if it will be the orginal "Mike Tyson's Punch-Out" or if it some how remade....
I do like seeing classic games showing up as easily avaliable downloads via these services (both XBLA and the Wii's VC).

NTP, as far as I can tell, is simply "NTP, Inc" it is not an acronym like RIM (research In Motion).
As some one who has no knowledge in this field, have we learned anything actualy interesting from this?

Exactly, just link to their comment, and if you want you can even follow the standard "Re:" format if you want

So does this meen that ubisoft will be making even MORE games for the Wii? we already have around 10 launch titles from them, don't we?
either way, it is sorta interesting, is this taxbreak also avaliable to things like movie studios and tv?
It was more the problem that you are commanding them to wait untill they can see the spammers to shoot them.

Only AC has to fill them out, by registering you have already "proved" you are a human.
yes, they are humans, go over to antislash (or what ever it is called) and you will find that post, is is suposed to create flamewares.
Thank you, I feel alot better knowing that I am not the only one.
Just like everyone else this is highely discriminitory against the visualy impared.
You are a horrible horrible person!
Or actualy listening to the horibly mangled english that is a 419 email.

zero and "o" are my 2 problems genneraly.
However, as I said, I have never failed a slashdot captcha, probably because they are all words....
I actualy like the ones like that.

actualy, they offer alot of bonus discs, however you order them just like a standard disc!

This is FUNNY you mods, not informative.
deargod if anyone honestly found this informative I would cry for humanity.

there are pleanty of audio captchas out there....
see, it would be more amusing if you remembered that he posts more pronintendo articles then he does pro xbox.
Get your trolling right.
