nice idea, personaly I would combine it with the way/. works.

Temple University psychology professor Donald A. Hantula said he believed the medium was not to blame for dysfunctional behavior by its users. 'I know people who spend 40 or 50 hours a week playing golf,' said Hantula, who is executive editor of the Journal of Social Psychology."
the quote says it all. Yes, you can spend an unhealthy amount of time doing anything, just because it is electronic/a "game"/SF/F does not make that thing BAD, it just makes you a lazy bum with not selfcontrol.
It can't just be cost, because they could and would just pass that on to their customers.
Sort of a follow up, how do the states/districts decide what machine to go with? Is it a standard "go with the lowest bidder", is this why we see such shoddy machines going into action? Do the decision making organizations tend to have specific features they look for? Anything else you would like to share about the decision making processes that you have seen?
Perhaps we don't want people without the wherewithal to find out what compiling is. There are some people that might be better off not trying to do advanced things like installing a new OS.
Congratulations, you just agreed with TFA. Why The World is Not ready for Linux.
TFA is not sayign that linux is bad, jsut that this is the reason why most people will never use it.
See, most of us don't want to wory about anytihng when playign a game. If a game does nto work, I am not going to do work to play it. This holds true in any environment for me. Whe nI have worked in Linux, I stuck to games native for it. When in windows I will refuse to buy games that do not work out of the box (Starforce games being the most recent example of where I did not buy a game b/c of havign to do things to get it to run).
and out of curiosity, does wine have some sort of support to deal with games that have some sort of lock down on them (Starforce, securerom, whatever)?
See, there is the difference. You say that some one has to be "smart", or "willing to be intelligent" to use linux. that is not the case. People have to be relatively intelligent AND have the time to spend on linux. I know many highely intelligen people who just don't have the time/energy to spend teaching themselfs how to setup and use a linux solution. And for these people, there is Windows/MacOS. And that is exactly what the article was getting at, most poeple just don't have the time to spend teching themselfs how to use a tool (that is what a computer is), when there is a much simpler soloution (that does "just work") out there.
Mac owners are there for the OS for the most part, iPod owners are there because it is "THE MP3 Player" (Often they don't even know wth an MP3 player is, they only know that it is an iPod).
MacOS is something that is substantialy different then other things like it (windows/linux/etc), where as most MP3 players are relativly the same (UI being the big thing that iPods stand out with).
Just think about it, try and get a windows/mac/linux usser to switch to another OS. Hard, often futile. Try and get some one to use a different CD Player/VCR/DVD player? If you can just go "look, it is more efficent and costs less" and tadah, they switch (Assuming they need a new device).
meh.
If some one can create a device that is better and/or cheaper, people will switch.
The fun thing about advertising on the internet is that what you look at is what you see in advertisments. It is much easier to target adds when you are on a gardening website (http://www.gardenweb.com/ refresh it a couple times and look at what comes up, I doubt you will see adds for tech gadgets or pr0n) then if you are watching a sitcom.
Yes, it used to be the case where you almost entierly had techies and computer savie people on the internet. With the popularity of broadband, and the old "easy" ISPs (think AOL, pop a CD in and "WOW, I have the internet!") the internet is growing in divversity.
The US has been forced to contend with heinously patronizing and crude TV advertising for decades, but the UK's advertising industry has managed to create art out of the dirty act of selling. Some of the best short films of the last century have been television advertisements
I, being an American, have never watched TV in another country (watchign TV when traveling, for anythign other then pure news, seems silly to me). Are the commercials in the UK actualy good and worth watching? Commercials are one of the reasons I nolonger watch TV, that and the fact that most TV sucks horribly.
So, tell me, are these commercials really that good? (or is this just FUD?)
I am glad I am not the only person that thought "must be user error".
Look, I am not saying that there is not a conspiracy here, however this is not much proof of anything bad going on (aside from shody machines). 2 annecdotes from a paper specificly reporting that the machines are showing a republican bias (wich leads me to belive the paper probably has a democrate bias), showes nothing.
I get these all the time. I actualy recieved 3 of the exact same one in one night. Admitedly this is why I don't answer the phone in my house (any one who should be callign me has my cell #)
I can only name ONE (western) game that is noted for who did the music, and that is Quake. Are there others? Am I missing something? I have never actualy seen an OST for a western game for that matter.
Yes, who did the music in Japanese games is sometimes a selling point for the game, and you can buy the soundtracks for them. But in a western game? (what is generaly refered to as the "game industry" by use americans after all)
XYZ Is a horrible thing that only satenists and terrorists aprove of! Are you infavor of it or not?
yup, does not matter to me if it is Dem/Repub/Green/Lib/whatever. I hate these tactics, and thus ignore everything about elections, exept for facts and the Daily Show
3 heavily slanted "oppinion polls" on my machine is enough to get me incredibly ticked off (not to mention that all 3 were exactly the same, if you are going to use an autodialer PURGE any duplicate entries you have!).
Admitedly I never answer the house phone and don't watch TV/listen to the radio ever......
I thought that when the idea first became popular Google worked on making it harder to google bomb something. Isn't this infact one of their key aspects on developing google itself? Return RELEVANT sites? not things with lots and lots of links and the same 2 words every time.
I thought that the SPs were large(ish) changes that were not just a bundle of all the old patches. Forinstance, when ever I do a reinstall of 2K I need to first patch up to SP4, and then start the auto update stuff....
Oh well, I still don't use XP, and I am still confuzzled by MS.

I fail it for not linking TFA.
ahem.
MS is not that stupid.
comes with exactly the same stuff an iPod does, a sleave, headphones, and a USB Sych/charge cable.
No, I am still not buying an MP3 Player. to much money for not enough product.

normaly I don't comment on moderation, however I have to make an exeption this time...
INSIGHTFUL?
I hope some one missed the Funny button....
Nothing for you to see here. Please move along.
So they are now selling overpriced wireless mice/keyboards with a horibly overpriced piece of plastic?
If you want to sell hometheater computers, then set them up to be easily navigated via remote (hint, look at apple), not via a keyboard/mouse set up.

Now that is not 10% accurate.

ok, I admitedly just remembered GTA, however I don't count GTA as you are listening to a radio in game, not a soundtrack.
I can only name ONE (western) game that is noted for who did the music, and that is Quake. Are there others? Am I missing something? I have never actualy seen an OST for a western game for that matter.

This is why I stop answering my phone as well.

Same reasons stated every time some one brings up why thy didn't include both "well, uhh, we can't! umm, money, and weight, umm, yah"
I still like the 150-200 MILLION units being made. because each PS3 realy needs 150-200 controllers.
How else can you? (I honestly don't know, not a fan of chem/bio or anything)
