I'd estimate that overall, about 5% of computer owners in the US have something faster so you're saying nobody can boot XP. Okay so that's almost true but still, you're exaggerating. But I can't pull a faster graphics card out of my ass so right after a money tree springs up in my front yard, I'll get a better one. Btw it's still really hard to get it to drop below 30 fps (I have low standards) with any settings in an average directx 9 game at 1024x768. And I don't want a crap dual core like a 3800+ so I'm waiting until I can afford a faster dual core (I need dual core for video encoding while doing other stuff)
But if you have just a few guys writing Vista, then they don't have to wait around background checking thousands of people or training them or even just hiring them:-) That would cut off so much time!

I hope they learned that all this would have been avoided if they would have thought up and designed each feature one at a time in order of importance instead of all at once then hoping the whole mess works together and is secure. It sounds slower in theory but in practice, they've spent probably like 10x longer fixing all the new features and making them work together than it took them to write them in the first place.

Wouldn't certain hacker-written firmware replacements make it act like something else? I know of a linksys one that lets you boost the signal 4x the normal max with the old firmware so how hard could it possibly be to get it to do other things that would mask it? Even if the way the antennas were built caused an unmistakable fingerprint, if you got the device's hardware to change its power levels on certain parts or tweak the frequency outside the 12 channel range for example, that would make it look like something else, right?

I think the only reason it's popular is because it combines Warcraft fans that will play anything Warcraft with MMORPG gamers. That's a lot of people but it doesn't make it a great game. I bet you're used to 4 year colleges where they make you take all those stupid general eds and only teach theory with little hands on work. Get with it! 4 year programs are useless (especially in IT) because all jobs want these days are prior work experience. I already got hired without looking as a web designer and I'm not even done with my degree yet, they just heard I'm good at it and I've done it before. I may not be able to feng shui the thing, but I can get results because my teacher is a web designer and I've done it before. Screw theory! P.S. I'm in a very good 2 year college for a PC programming/Web Development degree with a web design certificate.
My VB teacher posts his ASAP, usually withing 24 hours. The school-wide rule is if you miss two weeks of class in a row or like 25% or something like that overall, you're booted from the class. That filters out all the lazy slackers that don't deserve degrees or jobs because they can't even take the effort to show up. Also, use a lot of hand gestures and non-verbals so people will get the just of the lecture for review purposes but would still do poorly if they missed the original lecture.

If a guy matching my description robbed a store and ran towards an airport that I was in, I'd be disappointed if the police DIDN'T stop me and question me and I wouldn't start whine about them being racist against blond haired, 5'11" people or whatever. If a computer programmer in my town was suspected of stealing a computer, I wouldn't have a problem with them coming to question or search me just because I'm one too. If someone in any group that you belong to does something bad that makes people suspect you of something then it's not racism, it's life, deal with it.
I don't think they should be allowed to call it finished. They'll probably rewrite most of it in patches over the next few years like IE6. At least it has better CSS support. And now it works better with adware applications and maybe they finally added support for the "fixed" div style so we can all get attacked by screen covering super ads that can't be removed.
historically, people tend to get really mad and do something when their own work computer breaks or gets hacked so I second that idea. Remember what happened when advertisers got infected with adware displaying their own ads a couple years ago and it kept crashing their computers and they couldn't remove it? Well it's sort of like that I suppose. They know they're doing something they shouldn't (or not doing something they should) but they need a little personal nudge to actually take action.

Oh yes, a stolen phone ruined his whole life. Now he has to go live in a box in an alley wishing he could have his life back. Is it just me or does everyone think it's odd that he should have logically not told anyone about what was going on until the thief took a picture that would give enough evidence to get himself captured? If my phone got stolen (well okay, I don't own one and never have) I'd be kinda pissed and want revenge, especially if it was likely it would be handed to me as easily as having the offender take a picture of his car or house or something.
