Let's make it half scientists, and half Slashdotters.
The scientists can be at the front of the room making all the noise and getting all the attention, while the Slashdotters can be at the back of the room snagging the occasional good idea as it flies past, and getting things done.
It's pretty scary how a large percentage of the "Blue Counties" from the 2004 election (http://www-personal.umich.edu/~mejn/election/countymapredbluelarge.png) are inside the "constitution free zone".
deCODEme http://decodeme.com/ does this for $985 (intro price) and has the advantage of being based in Reykavic Iceland, out of reach of easy US Govt access. Another (US) company is NaviGenics http://www.navigenics.com/.
Very much worth it if one is interested in learning about and working to minimize one's genetic risks.
I've been supporting the EFF on and off for years, and thought that this would be a fun way to encourage others to go out of their way to join the cause. I don't really have a use for the low UID because:
I've been married to the most wonderful woman on the earth for 28 years, and have no desire to date either Natalie or Giselle (I know who Natalie is, but who's Giselle?)
I'm not exactly a Slashdot Maven (I think that this is my fifth post in the history of Slashdot), although I read it constantly, and
I was a geek *long* before it was cool to be a geek, and am amused by the concept of a low UID having any street cred!
BTW, I didn't even know that I was outed until a friend sent me an email. So you can add cluelessness to my panoply of sins (*grin*).
Anyway, thanks to Rob and the/. team for a great auction, and for doing their best to constantly do the right thing for the Geek community! Keep the faith, guys!
Here's the original Fortify report, which has actual data (tm): http://www8.hp.com/us/en/hp-news/press-release.html?id=2037386#.VbF-Hbd2lEE

It worked for Bell Labs.....

Sorry, Pipingguy. I didn't swoop, just set a high max bid. The autobid system did all the dirty work (*grin*).
