Re:WTF??
Well, I don't really trust Netcraft as much anymore after it said that Microsoft IIS runs on Linux.

Re:Chrome, no thanks.
How many of you have posted screenshots of your desktop on your website? How many of you lost slashdot purity points for doing so with a web browser open showing slashdot?
Guilty as charged : ) -
Re:How very true (and sad)
I think it was a joke. But I also think it delivers a good point. When I was first learning about Linux, and getting interested in it, I felt a lot of hostility when I mentioned I used (and liked!) Windows. Hence, I was starting to have really bad feelings toward Linux and it's users. Regardless, I did end up trying it, and love it, but I still see the same Linux-arogance day after day. And to someone just seeing what the big deal with linux is, they'll be turned off. Trashing Microsoft does not make people want to use Linux!!!! It just turns them away from it. So it's actually quite pointless since you're "preaching to the choir" then. Sure, Linux zealots the minority, but just reading the comments someone wouldn't get that idea. They sure seem the majority to me. Anyway, I wrote a slightly more through essay on the subject because I feel quite strongly about it, and how much it is hurting Linux.

Re:I'd be interested if xmms treated symlinks bett
About a.....I don't know his programming experiance, but just because you can code doesn't mean he can. I can only code very simple programs and I would have no idea where to start to program what he wants. This shouldn't be taken as a flame, but just relieze not everyone is a programmer. I see this assumption a lot when someone complains about something in Linux.

All ok in Tampa
Just about everything is working fine in Tampa, FL. Water works, phone works, and I crossed over into the New Year chatting on IRC just fine. The IRC server also crossed over jsut fine a hour later. A couple of my friends computer are slightly messed up, one says it's 1984 (hmmm, 1984....interesting.....) and another said his computer got really slow after Y2K. The only real y2k bug I noticed myself was in a CGI script I copied somewhere that counted down the millinnium. It says it's the year 19100 and there is -17101 years until 2000. The full thing can be found here
Also went looking for some of those "bunker" people who got parnoid and ran to the hills for Y2K. Here is one's admission of embarrasment. -
Re:Publicity
Yes, the numbers are very low, but regardless, it does hurt the Linux community. Heck, when I was deciding whether to install Linux or not, I was quite put off by the blantent MS bashing and hatred toward them. I'm not saying you have to like MS, but when you call someone a **** **** (etc etc) for even mentioning they use Windows, you do not get them to go to Linux. Yes, they are a minority, but a very vocal minority. A few bad apples can ruin the barrel. I've written an essay on it that you can read here, that is written from my past experiance and fustrations with Linux zealots.

Re:Slashdot posters complete hipocrites
Very true, but that's the affect Linux zealots have on people. A few bad apples ruin the barrel, and a few Linux zealots whining about "M$" give Linux a bad name. Hell, I wrote a whole little essay on it here

Re:Is a BROWSER really the issue though?
Here is some more that I believe, and that I've heard complained about, in Linux that needs to be fixed.

Re:Right hand doesn't know what the Left is doing
And this is what a screenshot will look like : )

Re:This does not surprise me and it is sad
I've had those same experiances in the
/. chat room. Someone was saying that if you used Red Hat, you weren't worthy of using Linux. And then others bash Mandrake in this article because it's just Red Hat with improvements, or they say it's an exact rip-off of Linux. This is the type of thing that you don't want people who are interested in Linux to see. If all they see is bashing, and "I'm better than you" arguements, than they'll think Linux is for a bunch of fools. I think it should be mandetory for all Linux users to read the Advocacy How-To to stop scaring off people. I know when I was trying to find out info about Linux, I was turned off by people saying MS sucked because they were MS, and everyone who used MS products was an idiot. I myself have written a article on Linux advocacy if anyone wants to read it. -
Re:CTRL-ALT-DEL
It's used to kill a program that has crashed. Or for an example, if you went here, you would have to use CAD to regain control of your desktop.
