So, tell me how to build my own laptop. http://www.abspc.com/diy/notebookdiy.asp

Re:There are many other reasons to switch from del
I was agreeing with you until I saw I do like dell workstations and home PCs and laptops
Dell laptops are the worst brand of laptops you can buy. They break constantly. I go to school with 200 people who own a Dell laptop. Without fail, everyone I know with a Dell laptop has had very big problems.
If you're not buying a Mac, you're much better off with an IBM or Panasonic or a lesser-known brand -
ABS Mayhem notebooks
Mayhem. Nice stuff outfitted with ATI Radeon Mobility 9600 or 9700s. Your choice of Intel Pentium 4, Pentium M, or Athlon64, in order of least-to-most expensive. I'd go with the Pentium M version, based on your budget. The Athlon64 machine is $2100 with only 512Meg of RAM, whereas the Pentium M model is $1900 with 1Gig of RAM. That would also leave you enough money to upgrade to the 7200rpm HD.

Laptop Choices
I am shopping for a sub 2000 dollar laptop myself and the ABS Mayhem 2 looked like a winner. It is pretty light and sports nice hardware, however I haven't really seen any reviews for it so I don't know if they are supposed to be any good. http://www.abspc.com is the site.

ABS G1 Gamer's Notebook on Tom's Hardware Guide
I'm in the market for a gaming notebook, so I've done some research. I think the best bet may be the the ABS G1 Gamer's Notebook, which Tom's Hardware Guide reviewed last week. A WAY better price than, say, the top-of-the-line Voodoo PC ENVY m:860. It may not have the ATI 9700, but the 9600 is still pretty good.

Re:They missed the green one!
ABS has plenty of AMD-based PCs. And, they're very highly rated at ResellerRatings as well (9.13/10, Platinum+, Platinum, Gold). If I weren't going to build my own PC, I'd probably go with these guys.

New System for the 9700I like the 9700. But my current system is too old for the 9700 AIW. I don't have the patience to build a system myself. I've looked at Falcon NW - Way too much $$. Same with AlienWare too expensive.
I like what I see on the ABS pc website.
Any recommendations from
/. on where to buy a nice new system with some lights and stuff will be appreciated. (My old system is a white box, and my workhorse laptop is black. I would like some colour this time around.) -
Re:Distributors?Go to ABS PC they sell a couple of models pre-built.
I built an SS40G system a few months ago and it ended up costing me more than I could have bought it already put together from abspc.com.
:(At the time though they didn't sell any XPC systems.
