Re:Using the Rock Band drum kit as an instrument
For the PS3 version, try this: http://www.adventure-today.com/crap/RockBandDrums.zip It's a small java app my buddy wrote that does exactly what the cmdr wants. Make sure you have the newest version of java, plug in the USB controller and go. It's brainless to setup.
**It does not yet work with the 360 controller, but he is working that out. -
Re:Peaking
Yeah, there ya go. I didn't know the details, but even when we recorded this admittedly piece of crap thing, we could tell that something we were doing wasn't coming out like other albums.
By the way, that was recorded by using the PA as a mixing board and using the line out, and a Sure SM-58. Plus a warzed copy of Cool-Edit Pro. It was really low tech. We figured it was something that we did wrong. But later, after I'd left the band and they recorded The Sting (their much more mature concept album based on the futurama episode of the same name) - even though by that point they have multiple good mics, and an Echo Layla sound card for multitrack recording, etc. - it's still the same thing. It's "not as loud" as the latest crap from nickelback or dashboard confessional or whatever the kids are listening to these days.
Thanks for the explanation.

Target. Fredericksburg Virginia.
Ok, so this is hilarious. There is a PS3 line outside the local target that formed yesterday morning. Today we had a HUUUGE storm. Look at the water flowing off the roof of my building after the storm had passed. To make matters worse for the people in line at Target, last night Target's management had all their cars towed while they stood and watched, everyone afraid to lose their spot in line. My question is....if they are too afraid/stupid to stop their car from being towed...where are they going to the bathroom for 3 days?

Re:How they run the homebrew code
This is how the game backup process works it works. I'm not at home with all my bookmarks right now, otherwise I's supply the names of the programs and links.
-Install broadband adaptor.
-Put in Phatasy Star Online
-Install memory card
-Hook crossover cable from gamecube into a PC, or into a switch/hub on the network.
-Boot gamecube up. Create a new game and character. Set server IP addy in PSO to the IP of the computer you will use to serve your game backups. It's gonna need some decent HDD space..as games are around a gig and a half each.
-You run a program on the PC at this point, that waits for the Gamecube to request server info from it. Once the gamecube makes its request the PC sends a buffer overflow to the gamecube which allows it to write code to the memory card.
-on the PC shutdown the last software package that wrote to the memory card.
-on the PC start another piece of software that again waits for a request from the gamecube, but this time sends it a command to read all the data off the gamecube disc over the network to the PC's harddrive.
-Reboot the gamecube. Load your recently created character and start the "online" game again. You will now see a process that looks like this
-After 20-30 minutes the game will be on the HDD of the PC.
-Shutdown the software on the PC, and load up the software that is used as a "game loader".
-Reboot the GC, select your character and start a online game. Once again it goes to the PC thinking it is the PSO server and the PC sends it the game you had copied off the GC in the last step, enabling you to play the game without the disc in the GC.
I have gotten all but the last step to work. Sorry it's light on details - but I'm doing this out of my head and havent worked on it in a few weeks. This is, however a idea of how that process works. -
Cool Edit Pro 2.0
Cool Edit Pro 2.0 is great multitrack recording software. I have a crappy 8 channel peavey power mixer run into a soundblaster live! soundcard and have been recording albums with live instuments (drums, guitar, bass, vocals, keyboards, various percussion) for a few years like this. When in need of some digital effects i pull out a copy of Fruity Loops (THey may have recoently changed thier name) which is a sweet program as well. I'd like to upgrade to a Echo Layla Sound Card so I could record multipal tracks at once, but I've gotten pretty good at my current process and don't have extra cash on hand for the new card. Here is a link to some songs I've done with my current setup for an idea of what kind of quality you can get with very little equipment and a tiny bit of training/playing around:
