Hilariously, I'm in the UAE at the moment and wanted to call my Dad (who is in the states) from my Skype account to his cell phone. Unfortunately, the UAE blocks Skype -> phone (oddly Skype -> Skype works fine) calls so I just used logmein to connect to a XP box I have in the states, flip on the VPN setting, forward the ports on the router and then connect to it from my win7 box here in the UAE thus mading the call with no troubles. Took 5 minutes total, and I had never once made a VPN before...so if they are trying to stop terrorist activity or whatever they are going to need to try harder.
Chances are if he saw anything of Sputnik 1 (assuming 1 is what he was referencing) at all it was the second stage of it's booster, not the satellite itself.
Seriously go get an occlusal guard. I went for a long time without one due to not having insurance/not having spare cash, and now due to the grinding I have a tooth that was fractured above the gumline that became infected. They had to slice a flap in my gums to get to the damaged region, then because the damage was so progressed it required a root canal which was the worst experience of my life due to the tooth being "hot" (read: It was numbed properly but I could still feel all the work being done). All this even after I meticulously care for my teeth on a twice-a-day regiment. It's frustrating.
Are you nuts? The person who buys a PS3 as only a Bluray player is NOT who they want to buy it, as Sony will never make back the money they lost selling the unit to them as that consumer will never buy any additional items for it outside of the PS3 DvD/Bluray controller for it.
That said, I have a Ps3 and I like it a lot.
It's a simple supply and demand thing. OAPT (Organization of the Acorn Producing Trees) decided that supply was too high and cut production. This has significantly increased the price per cheek full.
Yes, but even if the PPC goes up, the cost of shipment method goes up with it, for the less you ship the more expensive it gets, per nut. They can only cut so much before it becomes cost ineffective.
NASA peaked as Apollo and has been underachieving ever since.
I agree with you (for the most part) on this statement relating to manned space exploration, but NASA has had much success in robotic space exploration in the past 40 years that should not be ignored.
Some people will want more CPU power for... games? Who knows...
Hi def video playback. I download everything in x264 these days as it looks amazing on my TV, but from time to time I want to take something with me to watch on my laptop and would like to be able to do so without down-converting the video first.
Hopefully next time they can get a launch out the door without horrid unusable network lag like this one is having. I wouldn't mind if it didn't actually effect the single player mode or have an option in the game to shut off network access. In order to play the game I have to shutoff the network access for the entire PS3. Otherwise, the game is fun!
It does not, and that was the deal breaker for me. I don't get *ANY* cell reception from ANYONE in my house (or the basement I work in for that matter) and would love to use the @Home service, but according to T-Mobile's website and sales reps they only have two phones that support that service at the moment: some weak flip phone and the Blackberry Curve. And the Curve lacks the GPS it has on other carriers to accommodate what I assume is the hardware needed for @Home to work, which makes me worry the G1 will NOT support @Home in the future with a software upgrade. Hopefully the next gen will get this right. And add a headphone jack. Haha.
Awesome! This is exactly what I was looking for. I will def be hitting youtube looking for videos about these games. Question....when you get a game from Playstation Network do they enable you to download a trial and then buy if you like it, or do you have to buy before you can play any of the game? Thanks!
Yea, cool. I never owned a PS2 and I'm slightly annoyed to find out that not every Ps3 has backwards compatibility with PS2 games. Things like random feature omissions on new hardware is really quite annoying when buying consoles.
Like it or not, GH3 and that kind of game are not going to go away anytime soon.
I could care less if they make GH games. I'm glad people have fun with them. Some of my best friends are even ga....I mean like Guitar Hero. I just want to know if the system offers other more creative platforms before I invest in it.
Tell me - might you like Guitar Hero or an FPS if they weren't mainstream?
No. I want creativity and beauty in games, which for the most part FPS'es, rhythm and *most* big production games tend to omit. Of course, there are some of them that think outside of the box. For instance portal was epic, and is sort of a FPS, right?
Things I have played in recent time (aside from Portal) that I have found to be good are things like Soul Bubbles, LostWinds, N+, Patapon, Loco Roco, Rez, Geometry Wars, Castle Of Shikigami III etc. I'm looking for games for the PS3 that will appeal to me...and it's not the big blockbuster games I tend to see they have on their roster. It's not that I dislike all mainstream games as I do have a absolute love for things like Mario Galaxy and Twilight Princess....but they tend to still hold some actual artistic value as opposed to something like...you know....Grand Theft Auto games.
Looking at the list of "top PS3" games on Gamespot I literally don't see one single game that looks interesting to me so I'm asking to see if anyone has any recommendations that may be more tailored to me that I have just missed. Obviously Little Big Planet fills what I am looking for, but I find it hard to drop $400 or whatever a PS3 costs just for one game, regardless of how awesome it looks. Someone convince me to get one! I'm dying for it!
This seriously makes me want a PS3. Are there any other actually good creative games for the system? I don't care about your normal mainstream-crap like Guitar Hero or FPS'es. Anyone have any other suggestions to push me over the edge to drop the money for a PS3?
If you like Lost Winds on the Wii, check out "Soul Bubbles" for the DS. It's very close in design, simplicity and has a wind based control scheme that you control with the stylus. It's very relaxing.
Cool, I'll give it a try. I still don't understand why a MAC addy switch would get me back up when a simple router reboot (power down/up) will not, but perhaps this will help a bit.
I'd agree with you, but my situation goes deeper than that. I had lived here for 2 years (in this exact house with this exact line and equipment) previously and for 1.5 years it worked FINE. 100% no problems, fast torrents, fast HTTP, no dropped packets. All of a sudden 1.5 years into my service with Comcast this packet dropping stuff started. I started my MAC spoofing, and I was good to go, as they say. 6 months ago I moved out all together, and then moved back 2 months later. For this time period I canceled my Comcast service all together...when I moved back I started it up again (at $33 a month as opposed to $80 a month, whoo-hoo!) and for the next three months I again had *perfect* service. All of a sudden a few weeks ago the packet dropping bullshit started again, and here we are. No change of equipment on my side at all....which is why I doubt it's my router becoming flooded. *phew*.
Yea, you are bad at the internet. I change the MAC addy on the ROUTER, not the MODEM. Also, it takes them 2 days or so to start the dropping of the packets each time I make an adjustment to the MAC. And yes, the MAC addy CAN be random within a hex limit. But nice try.
Yea, when I am running torrents what Comcast does to me is make it so I drop like 30-80% of all (not just torrent) of my packets every 5-10 minutes, then it comes back up (tested via pings). My torrents are still blazing fast when I actually have a connection. All I do is spoof my router's MAC to a random number, release and renew my IP (to chick they give me a new one) and my internet works PERFECT for 2 days until they start the process over again. Annoying, but it's amazing they are so stupid they won't associate my IP with my MODEMS MAC instead of the router/PC.
BTW, If I shut off my torrents after getting a new IP, I *never* need to reset the MAC as they never force me to drop packets.
Take this with a grain of salt, as it may just be made up crap I read on the internet: I have been under the impression constant reading of the Wii laser is bad for the assembly for whatever reason (uh, cheap manufacturing perhaps?) and this is a reason DvD playback has not actually been included by Nintendo or focused on heavily in the homebrew community.
If I had a wishlist that could be filled on Wii features, I'd rather have a nice stable network aware "media center" that can stream video and mp3's. Another cool feature would be the ability to use a mounted HDD or a USB memory stick at the least to add more internal storage to the Wii so I can keep more WiiWare games...at 250+ blocks the damn thing fills up fast. Last, someone will hopefully come up with something that will load Wii game images over a network or a USB-medium...and this will be amazing. I won't ever have to stand up to swap games again and I can't wait for that to develop. If I could program my way out of a cardboard box I'd work on it, but I'm really too lazy to learn. Haha.

If I'm a sheep, I'm arming myself with big guns. If I'm going to die for dinner, I'm taking someone with me. THAT's the reason for the 2nd amendment.
You're gonna be a saaaaaad sheep when you realize you need fingers to pull triggers.

You forgot Virtual Boy. Get the red displaying on one screen, the black on the other...hold the system against your nose and you'd be good to go.

True. If I change my router mac (or put a different PC on the "gateway" position, I do not need to call. If I change my modem, they do require a call.

Those look more like applications for the Wii (WAD OR ELF's) more than a total custom firmware.

Yea, man. I'm 6foot7. I weigh 200 pounds. I run two miles a day, at least 3 days a week. I have a 36 inch waist.
