Already exists in PC systems.
Most of ASRocks high end motherboards including the X99's and Z97's have the 4x PCIe msata card already. I'm running one of these boards with a Samsung XP941 and getting the same speeds as the new MacBooks. http://www.asrock.com/mb/intel... plus http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-... and you're done. 1300+ mb/s SSD speeds on a desktop.

He's dead. (Fictional account)
Not true, but could be if things get worse: 2 minutes after posting his comment, king neckbeard died in an "auto accident".
Don't believe that how things operate? Read the book, Stalin, by Walter Laqueur. -
Re:They just play that game differently.
Apple doesn't do SecureBoot, they just make their devices a PITA to maintain.
Between pentalobes, glue-fastened glass, components in hard-to-reach locations, and active hostility towards self-maintenance, Apple could claim prior art on the concept of SecureBoot.
You do realize, of course, that pretty much all of those packaging choices are not done to annoy you; but rather to achieve a design-goal, usually thinness.
And besides, on the laptops to which you are obviously referring, Apple rightly has determined that a vanishingly-small percentage of customers actually engage in DIY component-level service of their laptops.
And if you take a peek inside of "thin" laptops from other manufacturers, you will find they use the same manufacturing techniques, such as glued display assemblies. And laptops have ALWAYS put components where they fit; not where they will be the most serviceable. Get over it.
As for Pentalobe (SIPR) screws, you just have to buy a cheap hand tool, available from dozens of sources, such as Amazon. Big whoop. At one time, Torx screws were "exotic", too. And Apple isn't the only company that uses these fasteners; not by a long shot. If you were a real technician, you'd know that. -
Re:freedom
Some Iraqis may have very well wished for the U.S. to remove Saddam Hussein from power. That has no bearing on the misrepresentation of the intelligence by the Bush administration in order manipulate the country into going to war. It also has no bearing on the bungling ineptitude of the Bush administration in prosecuting that war and the subsequent occupation of Iraq.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C...
Read Cobra II. It's a very balanced account of the planning and prosecution of the war. Rumsfeld micromanaged the military, and unfortunately for everyone involved he was grossly incompetent.
http://www.amazon.com/Cobra-II...
"Almost 1000 soldiers died!"
What about the Iraqis that just up above you claimed we were trying to save? Over 200,000 dead documented by Iraq Body Count. These deaths are all a result of the invasion of Iraq and the power vacuum which ensued.
https://www.iraqbodycount.org/
"you learn from the mistakes and move on"
The U.S. borrowed the money to pay for the war. The final tab will be in the trillions.
http://www.reuters.com/article...
Tens of thousands of American lives have been shattered, hundreds of thousands of Iraqi lives have been shattered, millions of Iraqis have had to flee their homes, barbaric ISIS has taken over parts of the region that the Bush administration intentionally weakened. Iran has turned into a major player in the region. The war was a complete, unmitigated strategic disaster.

Re:and laptops?
I do.
http://www.amazon.com/MSI-937-...
Start there and buy the other parts. anyone semi competent can build one in under an hour. Guarentee MSI bare bones systems will not have secure boot locked and enforced on you.
-
No.
New desktop, laptops or tablets (excluding Kindle E-readers and Fires) purchased from Amazon.com that are "dead on arrival," arrived in damaged condition, or is still in an unopened box can be returned for a full refund within 30 days of purchase.
So, you cannot test to see if you can get to the boot menu and return the item without any cost.
What will have to be done is somewhere on Linux.org or gnu.org, a list is published of who is naughty and who is nice.

Re:freedom
Also, Rumsfeld has to rank as one of the three worst defense secretaries in American History. Read Cobra II for more information:

Re:Mandatory voting is a recipe for civil war.
There's alot of crazy in that post. Those disinterested majority will quickly become interested when someone is dumb enough to try force. Look what happened to the south, read 1861 The Northerners were really disinterested in dying over the South's stupidity, but they came around quickly when the South went full derp.

Yet another reminder that Fascism is liberal
As if we needed any more reminders that Fascism comes from liberal ideologues...
Remember if they think there's one thing they think it's a good idea to have government force everyone to do, they have a hundred more topics they are having the same thoughts about, just not talking publicly.

Re: Nice Slashvertisement
There is some confusion in the article about Po-motion - Lumo is a different application, built in Unity and designed to run on a small processor. We used what we learned developing Po-motion (which is built in AIR) but it is a completely different platform. We'll be providing a styleguide and SDK for Unity developers, and we're planning to support them as they come up with new ideas for the system. The main challenge was making a turnkey unit that parents could afford. I'm excited to see what other people come up with for it.
:)Yes, that is my fault. I read the Po-motion page first and came to the wrong conclusion that your Lumo system was based on Po-motion. I realized my mistake after hitting send, of course. But, as I understand it, you have reduced the hardware of Mandala, an Amiga, a projector, and a camera down to one thing to plug into the wall that provides all of those features and probably a similar level of performance to what was available in 1988 (depending on CPU choice, ARM has come a long way since the 68030 was released). I would love it if one of the Mandala creators were around to pipe up (last I left them they were following the Grateful Dead around the world and living out of Hare Krishna temple/hostels). IIRC, they were also from Canada, though I don't remember which city.
BTW, you should probably update your Lumo page to indicate that you are using an ARM CPU, or perhaps "an Android-compatible CPU", rather than an "Android CPU". As for cost, running Android on an Intel NUC would certainly increase your cost, but could also increase your performance by enough to allow orders of magnitude more challenging applications, maybe for the Hammacher Schlemmer version
:P. -
Re:i don't get it.....
I'm not in a big hurry, and I want to see what DTS comes out with before I invest in an object-oriented sound system.
Seriously, don't bother, all the features and TV shows doing objects mixing now are mixing in Atmos, and the DTS-Barco system is a vaporware "open spec" that's DOA.
You don't have to do a ceiling installation for home atmos, I've heard good things about top-firing speakers.

Logitech wireless bundle
+ Last October I bought a Logitech K520 wireless keyboard and an M310 wireless mouse that came with it. Still fine. "Stiff" keyboard action, but that's the way I like it.I changed the mouse battery last week. K/B batts. still going strong, A good combo at a decent price. I'm happy.

Matias Quiet Pro
Get a Matias Quiet Pro. It's a mechanical keyboard and it's pretty quiet. I have the Laptop Pro which uses the same keyswitches. It's so much better than a rubber dome keyboard.
I'm typing this on my favorite keyboard of all time -- the Apple Extended Keyboard II, but it would never be confused with "not bulky." Plus, you have to get an ADB-USB adapter and, at best, the keyboard will be about 20 years old. That said, they're the best keyboards ever made IMHO and, even at 20 years old, mine still types like new. Plus they're pretty quiet for a mechanical keyboard.
I also love the Model Ms from Unicomp, but those definitely aren't quiet.
-
Buy an IBM Model M
Your best bet is buy an IBM Model M keyboard from Unicomp. That's where I bought mine. It is a really nice keyboard, solidly built, good travel on the keys. Yes, it's a mechanical buckling spring keyboard, so it does make noise. But my fingers just don't get tired. It's great. I ordered mine as a USB keyboard.
Unicomp also seems to sell a few keyboards in the more common "rubberdome" format, so maybe that's more your style.
I'll admit that sometimes my carpal tunnel flares up and I need to switch back to an ergonomic keyboard. I still have my Microsoft Natural Keyboard Elite from a few years back. It's a rubberdome keyboard, just like any keyboard you'll find, but it lets me keep my wrists and forearms in a relaxed position. It's a PS2 connector with a USB adapter.

Microsoft Comfort Curve
I have enjoyed the Microsoft Comfort Curve Keyboard 2000. Inexpensive, but relatively comfortable. It looks like this may be discontinued now, but the 3000 is now available. http://www.amazon.com/Microsof...
-
Microsoft Wireless 3000
This is the one I'm using now:
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0021...
Has some useful hotkeys like zoom in and zoom out, one-key mute, volume up and volume down, calculator, etc. Full size with numerical keypad, no "ergonomic" layout to learn. It replaced a wired model 3000 that doesn't seem to be available any more, or at least I couldn't find it. Would rather have wired so I didn't have to worry about the battery, but this is good as long as the battery holds up - 2 AA batteries.

The future of child care is here
Who really can provide all the time that that a little girl requires. Now the problem is solved. The electric Barbie will be her friend and confident, and guide her through the mysteries of life. Parents can continue to watch TV safe in the knowledge that their children are safe. I presume that interactive destructor robots are not far off so little boys will not be left behind.
The will all grow up to be good, politically correct individuals. As the software becomes more intelligent, it will appeal to older and older children. No need to deal with real friends who need to be cared for, listened to, and can be nasty. Barbie is always nice. Always listens, is always concerned about you. And all that personality data can be sold to other companies to help guide their entire life. Buttons sewn when she is 3, pressed when she is 30, how wonderful.
Computers are getting smarter. This toy may be a bit of a joke, but the next version will be better. And they will be coming cheaply from China, with software driven by Google.

Re:Why don't i believe them
When planning a project or choosing a strategy, risk must be assessed. Risks come as both threats and opportunities.
I am sure that this is what they teach in MBA programs. It has little to do with how real people make decisions in real organizations. I doubt if the cameras are part of a vast conspiracy. It is far more likely that someone came up with the idea for no particular reason, and while others thought it was hare brained, they went along with it to avoid losing support in some other idiotic bike shed argument.
For some reason people accept that their own team or small department can be dysfunctional at decision making, and do things that seem inexplicable in hindsight, but somehow as organizations get bigger and bigger they magically figure out how to be competent. But only the consequences go up, not the competence. Read The Guns of August for an account of how, a century ago, incompetence, hasty decisions, petty feuds, and gross misunderstandings, led to the deaths of millions. For another example, look at the decisions that led up to the US invasion of Iraq in 2003. Big organizations are not good at making decisions.

Most people are locked in the matrix of their upbringing and education, they are quite literally spinning in terms of exhaustion/being distracted by stress of school/work and debt (paying the bills). We'll not get into poor parental environment or upbringing which heavily interferes with all of that. And yes you can be manipulated without knowing it.

Re:price?
You could also just buy a complete replacement light fixture. It should be easier to fit the AC to DC conversion circuits into a fixture than a small bulb shape, and the fixture itself can serve as a heat sink.
Maybe something like this (only designed for 220V power):
http://www.amazon.com/Ceiling-Fluorescent-Equivalent-Lighting-Bedroom/dp/B00MUGV7TU
Do the math and see if you will save money in the long run. Perhaps an LED will pay for itself in a reasonable time, given that it uses 80% less power than an incandescent.
-
Joystick Mouse
My first thought was Joystick, my second thought was "Slow down mouse speed"
so I promptly googled this into existance:
http://www.amazon.com/3M-Ergon...
That, coupled with using a slower mouse tracking speed, should allow the user to use larger gross movements to nudge the mouse to where it needs to be, and click. Its the first route I would go anyways, instead of multi-hundred dollar eye tracking or voice control software. -
Neural?
How about something like the NIA?

Re:The moon is a better idea anyway
As to it taking less fuel to get to mars then the moon... How? Just explain how that is possible.
Aerobraking. The vast majority of your spacecraft's fuel and cost is spent getting out of Earth's gravity well. If you've burnt enough fuel to get into a lunar transfer orbit, it takes just a little bit more to escape Earth entirely and go to Mars. But to *land* on the Moon, you need to spend more fuel to slow down and stop on the surface. To land on Mars, you just need a heat shield, because Mars has an atmosphere you can use to slow down.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/D...
So that's reason #1 why Mars's atmosphere isn't a joke.
I'm quite certain you could "throw" things from the moon to the earth. So the return trip wouldn't even take fuel. You could literally just give it a push.
Unless you can throw things at 2.4 kilometers per second, no. The Moon's gravity is less than the Earth's, but it's still serious business. You need quite a bit of fuel to take off from the Moon. You need fuel to take off from Mars too, but Mars's atmosphere has carbon dioxide: bring a little hydrogen with you (or use the local water) and a source of energy (solar panels or a reactor) and you can synthesize methane and oxygen fuel while you're there. No need to carry fuel for the trip home!
http://www.geoffreylandis.com/...
Reason #2 why Mars's atmosphere isn't a joke.
[Mars's atmosphere] is not enough to appreciably reduce radiation to the surface.
Oh, but it is. Mars's atmosphere is thick enough to shield radiation about as well as several inches of concrete, reducing radiation exposure by a factor of 2-3. It's also further from the Sun than the Moon, which reduces solar radiation by a factor of 2. Neither of these effects are enough on their own: you're right that Mars habitats will have to be underground too. But going outside is noticeably safer.
http://www.lpi.usra.edu/lunar/...
Reason #3 why Mars's atmosphere isn't a joke.
Mars's atmosphere doesn't provide complete radiation shielding, but it does provide complete protection from meteorites up to about 1-2 meters in diameter.
https://janus.astro.umd.edu/as...
Reason #4 why Mars's atmosphere isn't a joke.
And finally, the Moon has craters and lava flows and that's all. Mars has those, plus volcanoes and canyons and ice caps and wind and clouds and storms and snow and glaciers and sand dunes and landslides and groundwater and river valleys and maybe an ancient ocean and maybe, once upon a time, life. Why? Because Mars has an atmosphere.
Reason #5 -- the most important one -- why Mars's atmosphere isn't a joke.
As to why not do it on earth? That question doesn't even make sense.
It was a rhetorical point, not a serious proposal. I'm saying that if you're going to spend your whole life hiding in a sterile burrow, does it really matter that you're on another planet?
For the record, none of these ideas are my own. I'm quoting chapter and verse from "The Case for Mars" by Robert Zubrin. Zubrin's got his problems -- he's a little too casual about the radiation dangers, for instance -- but IMO it's a good starting point for any serious discussion of colonizing the solar system.

Re:culture trap
Uhhh...the "sleeping girl" that testified she was "sleepy" when they started FOREPLAY and then woke up enough to have sex, go to the shops, make him breakfast AND tweet about how wonderful a night she had, THAT sleeping girl?
Quit pushing the "Murrica fuck yeah!" propaganda you've been spewing. You wanna know how you can be 100% sure its murrica propaganda? Because the head of the embassy said "We will happy to hand Mr Assange over to Sweden on ONE CONDITION and one condition alone, that they sign a statement saying this is about a crime in Sweden and will NOT simply hand him over to US officials"...well guess what Sparky? THEY REFUSED.
That is incontrovertible proof the whole thing is nothing but a setup for a rendition ride so that the TLAs can make an example of him. After all it it was really about rape, a state charge there, why would they give a single fuck about signing the paper? Because they know it would make them look like the USA's bitch when they signed and handed him over, that's what.

Re:Well, they're wrong. Plain and simple.
The problem is when the placebo effect is not powerfull enough to overcome a medical issue but
Yes it is. Go read about the placebo effect. e.g. there was an operation that was carried out for some time for angina. It was pretty effective for a lot of patients, resulting in long-term symptom relief. I don't recall the exact details, but I think it involved tying up some superficial blood vessels under the assumption that this would reduce pressure on the heart. Some time later a surgeon did a study where some patients received a sham operation. Turns out the sham was as effective as the real operation. Because it was "no better than placebo" the operation got canned. Yet it worked. The reference is in Ben Goldacre's "Bad Science" book.
Looks like an interesting book: http://www.amazon.com/Bad-Scie... Here's the angina section http://nemaloknig.info/read-23... you couldn't do anything like that today, as subjecting a human to a sham operation is definitely unethical. But a similar item is back surgery for back pain; the operation is statistically no better than no operation whatsoever, never mind a sham.

"We now live in two Americas. One—now the minority—functions in a print-based, literate world that can cope with complexity and can separate illusion from truth. The other—the majority—is retreating from a reality-based world into one of false certainty and magic. To this majority—which crosses social class lines, though the poor are overwhelmingly affected—presidential debate and political rhetoric is pitched at a sixth-grade reading level. In this “other America,” serious film and theater, as well as newspapers and books, are being pushed to the margins of society.
In the tradition of Christopher Lasch’s The Culture of Narcissism and Neil Postman’s Amusing Ourselves to Death, Pulitzer Prize-winner Chris Hedges navigates this culture—attending WWF contests, the Adult Video News Awards in Las Vegas, and Ivy League graduation ceremonies—to expose an age of terrifying decline and heightened self-delusion."

"do not give them this power!
they can then 'schwartz you' if they want."

Most have no clue what's really going on in the world... the elites are afraid of political awakening (aka global revolt). i.e. they fear you stopping voting for politicians and causing social and political change because the democratic system is a sham.
This (mass surveillance) by the NSA and abuse by law enforcement is just more part and parcel of state suppression of dissent against corporate interests. They're worried that the more people are going to wake up and corporate centers like the US and canada may be among those who also awaken. See this vid with Zbigniew Brzezinski, former United States National Security Advisor.

Absolutely agree... i like my electrons fresh!
for instance: i found this high end solid silver, gold plated, diamond encrusted ethernet cable greatly improved the quality of audio that i recieved from my super fast 28k fibrous broadband modem. I know all those nay-sayers... those common people with their primitive untrained ears, who don't encode their vinyl at 5.6448 MHz sampling rate because of that unproven "nyquist shannon sampling theorem", say the ethernet frame check sequence, CRC-32 and ultimately transport layer protocols mean that data transmission loss at the physical layer is completely invisible before it gets anywhere near the DAC.
Now i don't claim to know what all that stuff means, but i Dooo know that electrons are electrons, and electrons are like water and water has memory, and those other electrons know they are clones, and my ears can tell those electrons are not the original electrons from my 28k modem that's downloading my 5.6448 MHz encoded flac files over a TOR network to my $1 a year shared server located in some kitchen in Russia on top of which somone is making toast... you know how i can tell? i can smell the toast when i use my new high end solid silver, gold plated, diamond encrusted ethernet cable, that's how good it is, it acutally induces a state of synaesthesia.
high end solid silver, gold plated, diamond encrusted ethernet cable: better than crack cocaine.
I also heard on the pedoaudio forum that they are going to release a limited edition version that is made from conductible water with 10e-1073741824 percent gold aparently this makes it a billion times more conductive than pure gold and will sell for twice the price, with a limited edition of made from water blessed by the Pope.
