Re:Not for the US
I can't vouch for the accuracy of this site, but it looks like most of us are okay although I have seen signs in convenience stores before telling people that masks were not allowed inside.
State Codes Related To Wearing Masks
Some states that do have laws have exemptions, like Minnesota:
unless based on religious beliefs, or incidental to amusement, entertainment, protection from weather, or medical treatment
-
Re:Time
Watch how quickly we get anti-mask laws if masks actually become popular.
Plenty of states already have anti-mask laws - http://www.anapsid.org/cnd/mcs/maskcodes.html. They run the gamut from banning congregating with other masked individuals (unless for approved purposed) to banning masks, etc. that conceal identity.
-
Re:Its, ... its, ...
Wearing a mask is illegal in many states unless for medical reasons or weather.
-
Re:Sure, give that a try
I just looked it up.
8 States and DC have laws against wearing masks. That is a small minority. In general, they are either very Leftist states, or states in which KKK was known to operate in the past.
Further, in almost all of those states, it is only unlawful to wear masks for the purpose of committing a crime or evading the authorities.
So, NO. In general, wearing a mask is not "probable cause" in itself, nor illegal in itself, unless it is done in order to commit a crime.
There are a few exceptions, in a few places. That is all.
By they way: I prefer the Guy Fawkes mask, myself. -
Felony in Virginia
There is no religious exception that I can see. I am wondering why people are not arrested for wearing burqas.

Re:I'm gonna say something funny now.
Are we absolutely sure where pheromones are being produced, or has everyone just ASSUMED they are produced by human sweat glands -- or is it the bacteria in the glands? The basic chemicals are not going to distinguish one human from another -- so why have pheromones at all if they are NOT distinguishable?
The sebaceous secretions themselves consist mostly of lipids such as squalene and other esters. When degraded by enzymes of bacteria naturally present on human skin, free fatty acids result, including those that smell hircine and are generally regarded as unpleasant. The most prominent examples of these hircine fatty acids have the general formula (CH3(CH2)nCOOH) and are called butyric acid (n=2), caproic acid (n=4), and caprylic acid (n=6). http://www.anapsid.org/pheromo...
Ipso facto, they are distinguishable by some genetic marker, protein, or some unique substance carried by the aromatic base.
I contend, that it isn't necessarily the poor performing human olfactory system creating that "magic feeling" but is actually bacteria picking up on the sebaceous secretions and tweaking our dopamine and epinephrine levels to get us to "hook up" with a useful colony.
Now there is a lot of evidence that a "high testosterone filled kiss" by a male is what helps sweep women off their feet -- usually requiring saliva. But again, it's also another vector for the savvy Bacteria to subtly manipulate their human ecosystem.

Re:Attacking the soul of France...
We get along just fine out hear not banning any kind of head gear or symbolism..
In the US there are places such as banks and some schools where you are not allowed to wear headgear. US schools also often require uniforms or have strict dress codes which could cause 'infringement' of religion based on your view.
There also a lot of state laws banning public wearing of masks in the US. Evidently many of them were implemented due to Klan activity in the early 20th century.
Incomplete list of such laws: http://www.anapsid.org/cnd/mcs/maskcodes.html?
We do not have as much of a backlash from the Muslim community here because we do not really HAVE a Muslim community (less than 1% of our population is Muslim). France has a large and growing Muslim community (7% of total pop. and almost half of all immigrants) so these types of laws are more controversial there. -
Re:Get rid of "private" domain registrations first
You have a face that's publicly viewable when you go on the street - and you don't have the right to wear a mask to hide it, What's the problem with that?
Where the heck did you get that idea? Look Comrade, this is still America and I am still free. If I want to wear a costume mask outside of Halloween it is my RIGHT TO DO SO.
Why? Because they're are no laws prohibiting me from doing so.
Do you want to put money on that? Several states say otherwise (and that doesn't count municipal laws to the same effect)

Re:Why would Ubuntu users care? Maybe...
It's like firing a salvo across the battleship msoft's bow. Might be firing arrows, and in a house of mirrors, but it's still firing shots. With an arrow, a leader can still be maimed or killed. Shatter the mirrors, and somebody's vision is jarred.
Hopefully Mandriva has vision-correction lenses to make up for all the spider webs that will be generated. But, hopefully, thar be toxins on zee arrows, maytes...

However, scientists are finding that when people do use excellent hygiene, they get asthma and allergies and have weak immune systems. We need exposure to germs to develop resistance to disease.

Re:Simple answer? KindaFrom http://www.anapsid.org/cnd/mcs/maskcodes.html#VIR
G INIA- VIRGINIA Section 18.2-422: Prohibition of wearing of masks in certain places; exceptions. It shall be unlawful for any person over sixteen years of age while wearing any mask, hood or other device whereby a substantial portion of the face is hidden or covered so as to conceal the identity of the wearer, to be or appear in any public place, or upon any private property in this Commonwealth without first having obtained from the owner or tenant thereof consent to do so in writing. However, the provisions of this section shall not apply to persons (i) wearing traditional holiday costumes; (ii) engaged in professions, trades, employment or other activities and wearing protective masks which are deemed necessary for the physical safety of the wearer or other persons; (iii) engaged in any bona fide theatrical production or masquerade ball; or (iv) wearing a mask, hood or other device for bona fide medical reasons upon the advice of a licensed physician or osteopath and carrying on his person an affidavit from the physician or osteopath specifying the medical necessity for wearing the device and the date on which the wearing of the device will no longer be necessary and providing a brief description of the device. The violation of any provisions of this section shall constitute a Class 6 felony.
Note that this makes just wearing the mask a felony. Many other states have similar laws. And your car isn't private property. Searching the driver and area around the driver has a lower standard than searching the entire car or opening a trunk. If you really want to infuriate, lock your glovebox. See also, 'Terry Stop'.

Dangerous animals????
Yanno, I've always had a problem with people saying animals like pythons are dangerous. Well let's see, considering more people die annually from dog attacks than pythons, we should be microchipping all pets. Okay, those figures are for the United States, but pythons are no more common as pets in Japan in the US. Hey, mice can carry diseases, despite the fact that most white mice owners don't let their mice near trash piles, but let's microchip them just in case! This is a non-problem.
I also have a problem with opening the door to using the tracking of pets to track people. This smacks of over-reaction and the singling out of one class of pet owner either as a weird form of discrimination, or simply fear of what most people don't understand.
Go out and start tagging mosquitos since they carry west nile and malaria, they are far more dangerous world wide to humans than pythons. -
Re:Bullshit.
note Gender as the word not SEX.
Gender:
The condition of being female or male; sex.
(American Heritage(R) Dictionary of the English Language, Fourth Edition)
Yea, good job there.
As for the thinking differently That's bollocks, that's tied into the constructed social roles argument.
Hopefully this will cure your "non-difference" stance:
Read me
Me too
Don't forget me
I'll end with this one
Such ballocks.... indeed... (be sure to read the WHOLE article in each case...)
Physical characteristics aside... men and women think differently. End of story.
The philosophical and logical attack you have when presenting your arguments is entirely unscientific. You state statistics, probibilities, and analise human behavior on a purely social and artificial standpoint... much in the same effect as politicians actually choosing the most rational course of action for the government - that method is horrible at actually getting the job done.
The only way to fully understand a problem is to figure out what is going on below the surface. Your approach of analyzing social behavior and performance in the work place based on how they were brought up is like trying to understand a computer by measuing how hot the insides get and what kinds of noises it makes.... you can't.
I'm done with this argument.
