Re:The thing is...
Bullshit. Put an erase head after the read head. Write once, play once. That has been the case for decades. To claim it wasn't possible before, is a poor excuse to undo a decades-old accepted practice.
... and who's going to ge the first one of us to open that end-user product up and cut the leads going to the erase head?
There's a reason you don't find any products that use that type of read-once technology, besides the fact that nobody would pay extra for the erase head: there's always a way around it! -
Re:A few stray thoughts...
I don't really know, but Fravia did put up some of +ORC's tutorials here.
Google is your friend. -
Re:Knowing how to search
Wow, you know all that stuff and cant simply go to astalavista like everybody?
;-)
btw (but you probably already know of), fravia made a nice website about searching, another quick place to use search engines is on freddo's search page. -
Re:Weird accessory
Of course, for those of us who are slightly more lazy, this Easier to use version.

Copy protection not the answer
Here's possibly one of the best sites on the net about the philosophy of designing shareware. Note that copy protection is not the answer!
http://semicolon.com/ShareSuccess/Shareware1.html
Basically, the author does triage. There are 3 types of people: those who will always pay, those who will never pay (pirates), and those who might pay. He focuses on trying to convince the latter group, and doesn't waste time with copy protection schemes that will just annoy the honest users and not stop the pirates.
What's wrong with copy protection:

Some typical attack methods:

o pyfail.htm
http://fravia.anticrack.de/advanced.htmYou might want to read all of these before deciding if your efforts on copy protection are really worth it in the long run.

h tmlThe author of the first link has a page of more links that are also very good.

Prior Art ;-)
I wonder in what it is different from AGORA, Web-To-Email, Gopher, and such services services? If you dont know bout them, you might want to check the Accessing The Internet By E-mail -- Guide to Offline Internet Access and Fravia's "How to search the web" lesson 10.
Have fun. -
RE/Cracking tutorials and games
you might want to have a look at AntiCrack which is a huge collection of tutorials cracking , reverse engineering, and programming. They also have a copy of the Old Fravia'Site, the new one being about searching).
There's a few games/challenges out there about reverse engineering, cracking, logic and programming. Give them a try if you wish (Arcanum is really nice):
AngularVision, Apotheosis, Arcanum, Aspect, Aspect2, C&CDisIncorporated, CyberArmy, Disavowed, Electrica, Escape, HackME, HackersGames, HackersLab, HackQuest, Hybrid, ICEFortress, Lamebulun, Mod-X, NetSplit, NGSEC'sSecurityGame, ProblemSetArchive, ReverserCourse, SlyFX, TheGame, and Try2hack.
have fun ;-) -

Learn from the masters.
For an excellent source of reverse engineering material, you really should check out the old Fravia pages. This is the original stuff right here.
Along with reversing tutorials and materials, there is a rich history behind this stuff. A man named +ORC published a tutorial on how to reverse engineer a Windows program called pooldemo.exe. From this text, an era was born. The Fravia website was created and was home to the +HCU. Many people sought after the true identity of +ORC, and he left a strainer (riddle) behind that would take you to a URL where he would be unmasked supposedly. Just look up "ORC riddle" on google for details. Neat stuff! -
Re: C-DillaThis essay on how to crack C-dilla safedisc should give you a pretty good idea of how it operates. This is pretty much the best thing I could find.
