You do have a cute ignorance about the Amish, doncha?
Just 'cause you're Amish doesn't mean you don't go through a period of druggin' drinkin' drivin' and enjoying the sins of the flesh
I have it on pretty reliable authority, second-hand from several Mennonites I know, that your average 30-something Amish man or woman has been pretty exposed to "Americanization" at one point or another, and this exposure is an essential part to their culture. -

Here's an even better picture of Bill Gates preserved for posterity.

Re:hey lawyers...
X gets its "Window" portion of the name from Xerox's "Star Windows" from circa 1975. Xerox developed the first GUI at PARC over a quarter of a century ago, way back before MS even existed and Bill Gates was still a pimple-faced teenager in Albuquerque, playing with his Altair 8080 kit computers and soon to be on his way to becoming a jailbird for numerous traffic violations.

Re:Ever read the mythical man month?
i read an article somewhere (can't find it now, but i think it was on the apbnews.com website) that said that there was a thin line between serial killers and doctors. something to do with their neatness and the way they had a set procedure for everything. as an example it showed how one killer (i think it was dahmer) had gone from disecting animals he'd found killed by cars (which was kinda unusual, most killers start by killing animals themselves) to being able to disect humans, and he'd done it by learning from animals first. it was a really interesting article, i wish i could find it.

Re:Huh?
According to APBnews.com, the reason that the box was not yanked is that "most team officials were sleeping off the victory" and were slow to react because of this. Always good to know that your support staff was too hung over to fix the problem. At least poor security wasn't their only problem.

Ebay won't allow the auction
Well, unix.com is slashdotted, so for this post I'll assume that it is not being sold by Open Group, the rightful owners of the trademark on the name "unix".
The Anticybersquatting Consumer Protection Act of 1999 amends current trademark law to encompass domain names, and has already been tested in the courts. This bill would make registration, use, or sale of the domain by anyone other than the Open Group a crime, and I'm pretty sure that eBay would halt the auction (according to their current policies)

Cyberattack Cripples Yahoo (APBNews)
Who's Behing Yahoo Attack? (ZDNet)
FBI talks with Yahoo! about attack (ZDNet)
How a basic attack crippled Yahoo (CNet) (with stupid protocol animations too!)
And in other news: A different type of DoS attack is being carried out against Yahoo. At least 40 web articles have been written so far, showing evidence of how many reporters must be calling Yahoo right now. Once the second round of DoS attacks are stopped, the techies can finally get some work done beefing up the site.

Re:No more "Melting Pot."This "story you heard recently" is nonsense. It has been circulating with many variations for a few years. I assure you that such a situation is illegal according to the laws of the United States and Israel.
I don't know about that particular story, but it's virtually identical to one that was in the news recently. See th is story about some Cubans that were being imprisoned in the US because they were considered subject to deportation (and therefore could not be released), but the US has no agreement with Cuba to deport them. Understandably upset about their unjust imprisonment, they took some hostages.

FBI Files On Walt Disney (Kinda off-topic)
They got some FBI files on Walt Disney over at APBOnline.
