Re:Listen to the gray hair on this.Yeah! Like 1.6GPF toilets!! GAHH I miss my 12 gallon flusher. Damn socialists! I have every right to use the energy that I pay for, as much as I want, whenever I want!! STAY OUTTA MY BUSINESS!!
Wait, what's that? There is a price model that accounts for time of use AND demand? Penalizing me for running my 5-Ton oversized A/C Unit that short-cycles like mad while I'm doing dishes and laundry at 3PM in July?

Re:Uhh....lithium ion?
Power companies are like record companies: they don't want anything to interfere with the way they distribute their wares, even if those changes might prove highly beneficial and profitable.
Really? All power companies?

All? No
... I suppose not. But then again not all record companies are dicks.
Just most of them. -

Re:that's more like itA microwave oven has an efficiency of about 57% to convert elictrical power in to heat. See: http://www.aps.com/aps_services/business/waystosa
v e/BusWaystoSave_23.html/
This is a lot better for heating up food than any other method. A simple isolated wire inside the water container has an efficiency that should be well over 95% and it can heat itself up in seconds. So you are wasting at least 30% just to heat up your water quickly. It is not the best idea to use electricity to heat up things in the first place but this concept is purely nonsense. -
Re:Solar constant
I live in Phoenix. APS already uses solar panels to supplement it's power APS and they also have a solar test and research center STAR Center
They also have a program where you can pay a few bucks extra on your power bill to assist the program. Supposedly you are agreeing to pay a surcharge to use solar power. I participate in that. They send me a newsletter and invitations to tour the STAR Center.
I agree, AZ and the the surrounding states have plenty of land and sunlight. There is no excuse for not using it. -

Re:EZ-Bake ovens and Geek childhoodLook for something called a flashbake oven.
Flashbake(R) ovens - Flashbake(R) ovens use a combination of intense visible light from halogen bulbs and infrared energy to cook food. It produces the browning effect of conventional ovens but it cooks almost twice as fast. Unlike conventional ovens, it isn't necessary to leave these ovens on during non cooking times to maintain oven temperature. They only operate when actual cooking is taking place - no preheating is needed. Because of these advantages, Flashbake(R) ovens are being used in commercial kitchens to increase productivity.-Flashbake
