What do you mean you won't get a tax deduction for IRA contributions at all? The amount of tax deferred income you can contribute to an IRA is not dependent on your salary, although it is much lower than that which you could contribute to your 401(K).
Sorry the 401(k) at your place of employment doesn't have choices that suit you - mine has many index funds that are basically no-cost and over the 15 years or so I've been part of them, have generated returns of nearly 10% (yes, that includes the recent downturn)
It's great that you are saving a lot of money, and paying down your debt...if you made smarter choices, like using a home equity line of credit instead of credit card financing to do your insulation work you'd save even more.
Where did you get 25 years from? Also, interest is compounded much more frequently than once a year...not a huge difference, but if you are going to claim to be doing the math, you might as well be doing it right.
From what it looks like you must pay a 10% early withdrawal fee and income tax, so it's a lot less worth to have $1 in a 401(k) than in a regular bank account.
Yes - and that is how official net worth calculations are generally done.
The article is about developers - I would guess not many developers make less than $50K and the average is probably significantly higher than that. If you are in a career that starts at $50K and goes up from there and DON'T expect to save a million dollars in your lifetime, then exactly how are you expecting to retire?
And the GP specifically started with $100 TV subscription and find other ways to save - the point being there are lots of things we spend a lot of money on, that we could eliminate to save more, while still having a pretty good standard of life now.
All my non-geeky friends have micros sd cards in their android phones - when they buy a phone, the sales persons says they need it and they get it. And the sales person is mostly truthful for a change.
Then google stock market returns in the last 12 months.
While the economy may not be super strong, the stock market has been doing quote well recently. 14% for the S&P 500 the past 12 months. At 10%/yr you will make over 400% on your investment in 25 years.
This is why companies (and I'm sure Verizon does) have ethics training that employees must complete as part of our employment with our companies. This is the exact situation they do this for. They show that they trained the employees not to do crap like this, so that when an idiot employee does, they are less, or not, liable.

But Apples superior screen resolution is a revolutionary feat by Apple, and not simply sourcing a high resolution display form whatever non-Apple company makes them?
If they can't understand a sorted listview with the process names and information organized in columns, how the hell is nesting the processes in a treeview going to make it any easier for them to understand?
So should all our filemanagers look like this? Filename Parent Directory GrandParent Directory test.exe \test c:\
or is the nested model that explorer, nautilus and most other filemanagers use more intuitive and easier to understand? I mean it's just a sorted listbox - why not use it for everything?
"IP numeric"? "IP holders"? They obviously aren't techies or tech-aware...which makes you wonder how they can ever be trusted to know what they're doing with these legal threats. Oh, yes, that's right, the whole things is a bit dodgy anyway - that explains the lack of technical awareness.
Right - the Solicitors Regulatory Authority are a bit dodgy - oh wait - they were the ones who used the IP Numeric term, not the lawyers who sent out the notices.
But let's not let facts get in the way of our comments.
I agree wholeheartedly. In addition to the option not to fly, IT'S NOT A BIG F'ING DEAL!
I fly almost every week for work and you stand in line for a bit, take your shoes off, put your laptop in a bin and stand in the machine for a few seconds and then move on.
This story is about Google operating in Europe. They have their own laws there.
There are projectors that support bluetooth connections and network connections. The current status quo need not be the status quo.
I also gave a presentation in a location that required using a proprietary (to that projector) usb dongle. That one was a bit scary.
we get it - you don't like Apple.
The OP wasn't gloating - he was correcting an error in the summary.
You can go back to your secluded shack in the woods now.

Ooooh - come invest your money with me - I'll pay you the zero interest you are expecting and we'll both be happy.
Really?

25 year average return numbers say 10% (+/- 2%) is probably a good a number as any.

first, google gdp vs stock market.
Then google stock market returns.
Then google doubling time of money.
Then google stock market returns in the last 12 months.

yep..and a $20k pool adds about $5K to the resale value of the house....
Solar panels started being deployed in the 70s. They all still work and were expected to give 10 years service.
All of them? Every single one installed in the 70s?
Almost "why bother?", considering how inexpensive the commercial models have become.
Even with gov't subsidies, you are looking at a 15 year ROI - you think that is why bother?

You don't have time to follow sports, but you have time to model "information from 5242 games played during the 2011-2012 season".
You could be honest and just say you don't really care, but get involved in the playoffs because everyone else is talking about it.
I'm guessing your level 80 warlock probably doesn't 'have time' either. :)

because there are many uses for the iPad other than Kindle, youtube netflix etc?
Why do you think they can't and won't tweak the technology to scan gestures from a chair position?
They do have these things called wide angle lenses.
the problem is the new system is just as much bullshit as the last.
From the summary:
Although it is unknown what, if anything, will replace the color-coded alerts
So although it is unknown if the old system will be replaced, the new system (which doesn't exist) is bullshit?
Wouldn't this be where RICO laws come into play
No.
To explain further, RICO is a law in the United States, and this occurred in the UK.

Can you take the binary you downloaded onto you iPhone and put it on another iPhone? (without Jailbreaking or other hacks)
Why not?
