Re:Marketting garbage for future technology
I agree, Tivo aren't the right people to bury the VCR, their offering is too crappy. If MythTV was a little easier to install (I did it, but some people may have trouble) and get working with all your hardware, and hardware was super-cheap and small, it would be perfect. I suspect prebuilt ms mediacenter (ugh) and prebuilt myth boxes to some extent will eventually bury the VCR. When everyone has transferred all their home vids to dvd or disk...

Re:If Autodesk _does_ kill Maya for Mac and Linux.
Compared with Maya, blender is a toy. That's the cold hard truth.
Maya for Linux has a slightly more messed up UI than the windows release though.

Impractical
The enemy would be able to locate your soldiers by their tags too. I wouldn't want to carry an ID beacon on a battlefield...

Re:I don't think it is a violation of the DMCA...The interesting thing would be this:
- they're showing people how to circumvent their DMCA-protected anti-copying measures.
- This results in them not being able to use the DMCA against anyone over this specific technology.

Sweet
Now if only they had gone all the way and installed Firefox. Still, brand recognition has its place, and this is a good example of where it can be used for a good purpose (less successfull phising and virii!).

...Kodak has released the first "computer-free wireless camera."...
i.e. the camera is the computer. This has allways been the case with digicams too, no matter how small and crappy or big and full-featured there's some sort of microcontroller in there, often several. Nothing new except for the wifi feateure. (Which is pretty good)

Re:Govern
No, but it's hardly diplomatic behaviour we see from the US in this case. Nothing new about that though.
I'm not saying this as flamebait, but if the US actually tried to excercise their so-called power over the internet for something truly sinister, they would find it to be more of a swiss cheese than a sledgehammer to wield... :)

Re:Finite this, finite that
I think new are added every day, as the graphs for my site (users more likely to use firefox, I'll admit) show a steady increase of firefox users.
Right now it's at 48,9%, which is pretty good. If the trend continues it'll break 50 in 2-3 weeks.
Firefox 48.9 %
MS Internet Explorer 25.8 %
Unknown 7.6 %
Safari 7 %
Mozilla 3.5 %
Opera 3.5 %
Netscape 1.2 %
Konqueror 1.1 %
Galeon 0.4 %
MultiZilla 0.3 %
Others 0.2 %

War zone?
I'll keep that in mind the next time I enter a war-zone. Like Henrico County, VA.
On a more serious note, this looks really interesting for diving. But it's just a patent, so I don't have too much faith in a product being released.

Well, axe (called lynx in the UK btw) specifically won't get you laid, but your chances are greater if you at least use some kind of deo... Won't matter how hot you are if you smell like doritos...

I'd be more concerned about diebold attacking this because it's a potential threat to their bottom line. After all, Q3 is soon over and Quarter Panic has set in.

Re:welcome to
Scary that by trying to avoid communism your country ends up with exactly the features of it that you don't want. You (not you but your people) refuse useful stuff like national healthcare and free college tuition, but are more than happy to give up your right to privacy in the name of the war on (terror|drugs|dancing|barney).

Also worth noting: Google suggest itself is itself still in beta, but apparently, that doesn't stop them from including it in a non-beta product...

Re:3 monitors
I would much rather have a 30" Apple Cinema display with 2560x1600 resolution for coding. Think of all the windows you can have open an viewable at the same time (I hate minimizing/alt tab). I think I read somewhere that Carmack uses one for his coding setup (not 100% sure). They are picky about graphics cards to drive them though, because of the high res.
