Re:Yes it is...Libertarians are just republicans who don't like the word "republican". sheesh. libertarians are the same as all the other politicians.
I disagree. Libertarians have very fundamental philosophical differences with Republicans, and in particular with the current crop of Republicans.
George Bush vowed to pursue smaller government, and instead vastly bloated it. IMO, that would never happen with a Libertarian President, if he were at all willing to stick to his ideals. Most likely he/she would, since Libertarian candidates are rarely career politicians.
The one area that I have concerns about in the Libertarian platform is it's foreign policy - I'm not sure that the U.S. can afford to back away from having a strong military at this point. In every other way, Libertarian leadership would be a great thing for the U.S.
Check out the website for the Libertarian presidential candidate. The banner ad on the front page says it all. (Also the article about Bill O'Reilly refusing to debate the Patriot Act with him is pretty funny...;)

Re:As someone who was flagged in CAPPS I...May I suggest this solution?
Remember people claiming there was no difference between Bush and Gore? Well, I don't see that this time, rather this is separate but equal evil. Why willingly trade giving up rights a,b, and c for giving up x, y, and z?
Personally, I can't stomach voting for either of them and will probably throw my vote in for Badnarik. Yes, I know he has exactly a zero percent chance of winning. Yes, I know it's "throwing my vote away" and "helping Bush." Either way, no matter who wins, we're fscked. At least by floating him $50 and voting my conscience, maybe one more person will be exposed to the LP and eventually there will be an actual challenger to the two parties.

Re:The 9/11 terrorists also used cars
I'd rather give Kerry a chance to f-k it up in his own special way than let Bush to CONTINUE f-king it up in his spectacularly inept, lack of statesmanship, idiotic, 3 year old finger pointing way.
OR you could vote your conscience: you could vote libertarian. http://www.badnarik.org
Such a vote will send a message to both parties that we value our bill of rights, in its entirety.

Re:OR IT COULD BE COINCIDENCE.
Christ, Bush has done everything possible to say Fuck You to libertarians, more so than any Democrat ever has since LBJ, and you're still going to vote for him on the basis of his most statist position--an orwellian-style endless war? I don't think you know what libertarian means.
I used to follow the Libertarian Party quite closely and, if not for many of my more leftist leanings, would consider myself a Libertarian. I remember in the 2000 elections that a lot of my fellow would-be Libertarians considered Bush the "lesser-evil" candidate (I didn't; I've always thought Bush was, at best, a flaming moron, even in his Texas governor days). Now it seems that Bush has totally fucked over his chances of Libertarians supporting his ass.
Consider this Web article from the current Libertarian Party presidential candidate, Michael Badnarik. IMO he sounds even more leftist than Kerry himself:
http://www.badnarik.org/Issues/IraqWar.php
Excerpt:
"A Libertarian president would not have sent the military trampling about the world, racking up a death count in the thousands, wasting tax money on destroying and re-building infrastructure, creating more enemies, and doing the kinds of things that led to 9/11 in the first place."
IOW, a slam against the "lesser evil" himself. -

Re:Not a documentary
Ok, let's start with a specific case, because it only took me about 30 seconds to find one:
1. The Florida Election Results Ruined by Fox News Reports.
From the film:
NARRATOR: Did the last four years not really happen? Look, there's Ben Affleck. He's often in my dreams. And the taxi driver guy. He was there too. And little Stevie Wonder, he seemed so happy, like a miracle had taken place. Was it a dream? Or was it real? It was election night 2000 and everything seemed to be going as planned.
Series of news clips: In New York, Al Gore is our projected winner. / The Garden State is green for Gore. / We project that Mr. Gore is the winner in Delaware. This state has voted with the winner in... / (Tom Brokaw interrupts) Mike, you know I wouldn't do this if it weren't big: Florida goes for Al Gore. / CNN announces that we call Florida in the Al Gore column.
NARRATOR: Then something called the Fox News Channel called the election in favor of the other guy.
BRIT HUME: Sorry to interrupt you; Fox News now projects George W. Bush the winner in Florida and thus it appears the winner of the Presidency of the United States.
NARRATOR: All of a sudden the other networks said, "Hey, if Fox said it, it must be true."
Ok, so Micky Moore is all about the truth right, and Bush is a liar because we haven't found the stockpiles of WMDs in Iraq. (Remember being given incorrect facts and believing the source as a fact makes you a liar in Moore and camp's books.) Let's watch Moore quickly become a LIAR:
[Source]
NBC called Florida for Gore at 7:49:40 p.m., Eastern Time. This was 10 minutes before polls closed in the Florida panhandle. Thirty seconds later, CBS called Florida for Gore. And at 7:52 p.m., Fox called Florida for Gore. Moore never lets the audience know that Fox was among the networks which made the error of calling Florida for Gore prematurely. Then at 8:02 p.m., ABC called Florida for Gore. Only ABC had waited until the Florida polls were closed....
At 10:00 p.m., which network took the lead in retracting the premature Florida result? The first retracting network was CBS, not Fox.
Over four hours later, at 2:16 a.m., Fox projected Bush as the Florida winner, as did all the other networks by 2:20 a.m.
There's just one quick example, check out the source above for plenty more examples of what a pompus twisted politico Moore is with plenty more independant sources to rebuff almost every single thing that Moore has ever put to celluloid. I'm sorry I don't think that corporation's have a need or demand to guarentee an unskilled laborer a job, I don't think that Government should be playing daddy to us, and I don't think that anyone should have a right to bitch about their station in life because someone else was successful enough to have a bigger bank account than you. Michael is a liar and that is something I think everyone has a moral obligation not to be - and no I don't support Bush, my vote will be cast for Michael Badnarik and I hope that most of you here will be casting votes with your hearts not with the idea of the lesser of two evils. -
Re:Well, we could...
Then how about checking out Badnarik Choosing the lesser of two evils is still a pretty bad choice. I for one will be voting to keep my freedoms.

Re:Unfair election aspect #3 - Equal coverage
They want "less government" but when you ask them how they'll maintain so many essential services for the people, they have no idea.
Define 'essential services'. Most of the time, your 'essential' is not the same as mine... and so long as government continues to be about taking from one person and giving it to another person, Libertarians will continue to talk about reducing government. When the sole thing, the only thing, government does, and should do, is protect us from each other, Libertarians will be happy, and so will the people who founded this country, who are rolling over in their graves right now.
You feel free to vote for Kush or Berry, I can't see any difference between them, both are evil men , who lie when it suits them, just seeking power... I'll vote for freedom, liberty, and good, in the form of Badnarik. -
Unfair election aspect #3 - Equal coverage
Two obvious requirements for a fair election are that voters should have complete confidence about their ballots' being counted accurately and that everyone, including the disabled, should have access to the polls.
There is a third requirement for fair elections, and that is balanced coverage. Forget the liberal bias, or the conservative bias, the truth in the US is that there is a 2 party bias. 3rd parties are ignored, and given short coverage in the guide of 'to be fair'.... In Europe, 3rd parties quickly gain recognition due to the mix of ballot variety (lots of parties to consider), election style (more representive focused) and the coverage they get. Here in the US, if you aren't a Republicrat, or a Demopublican, you have to fight for coverage. People with a true shot, ie enough ballots that they could win, or will likely affect the course of the election should be coveraged with EQUAL access .(No nonsense like 5% of a poll, because without coverage in the first place, you can't get 5% of a poll... and if they did cover you, odds are you WOULD get 5% or more.)
I'm voting for Michael Badnarik Libertarian, who is also on almost all of the ballots
and so should you, if you think Government is out of control. Kush and Berry won't change that, and you're just voting for the lesser of 2 evils.Vote for Good, vote Badnarik!

Calling all 'nutty libertarian' types!Have you looked at the Free State Project?
From the intro:
The Free State Project is a plan in which 20,000 or more liberty-oriented people will move to New Hampshire, where they may work within the political system to reduce the size and scope of government. The success of the Free State Project would likely entail reductions in burdensome taxation and regulation, reforms in state and local law, an end to federal mandates, and a restoration of constitutional federalism, demonstrating the benefits of liberty to the rest of the nation and the world. The current Libertarian Presidential nominee, Michael Badnarik is a member, as are almost 6,000 others. New Hampshire is a very tech friendly state, considered to be one of the best places to live, no income tax, no sales tax, low unemployment... Join us! We're already making a difference in NH, and most of us haven't even moved yet!

Re:Well..
I'm about ready to start looking into how we can find a strong libertarian presidential candidate who has a good chance of being elected.
Gary Nolan is running, has some name recognition, and seems like a viable candidate to me.
Michael Badnarik is another candidate with some potential.
Along with a willing Congress, I'd like nothing more than to see the Federal government stripped down better than an unattended Corvette in south-central LA on a Friday night.
Likewise. -
Re: to /.sig
Republicans: party of big gov't Democrats: party of really big gov't I quit.
Try Libertarian. -
Re:How about....With this fingerprint shit will come an ever increasing wave of "anti terrorism" laws that violate American citizens and other peoples human rights.
PATRIOT ACT I
and Bush signed in parts of the second actWhat we need in the white house is someone who will cut so much useless government out of our lives that they will live in their own house instead of a publicly funded one.
carlahowell.orgDo you hear soccer moms bitching for a woman in the White House? This one has some views on gun rights that would shock the sheeple!
This guy has good ideas; but with our stupid media they will probibly just make fun of his ears(he is NOT bush) Yay Liberty!

Re:Thefreeworld.net Re:Overzealous, eh?
It seems that one candidate was persuaded by one of his volunteers to throw a gig. There's certainly nothing more to be found about DMCA on his site.
