re: ADS & T.V.
ADS
"People are taking the piss out of you everyday. They butt into your life, take a cheap shot at you and then disappear. They leer at you from tall buildings and make you feel small. They make flippant comments from buses that imply youâ(TM)re not sexy enough and that all the fun is happening somewhere else. They are on TV making your girlfriend feel inadequate. They have access to the most sophisticated technology the world has ever seen and they bully you with it. They are The Advertisers and they are laughing at you. You, however, are forbidden to touch them. Trademarks, intellectual property rights and copyright law mean advertisers can say what they like wherever they like with total impunity.
Fuck that. Any advert in a public space that gives you no choice whether you see it or not is yours. It's yours to take, re-arrange and re-use. You can do whatever you like with it. Asking for permission is like asking to keep a rock someone just threw at your head.
You owe the companies nothing. Less than nothing, you especially don't owe them any courtesy. They owe you. They have re-arranged the world to put themselves in front of you. They never asked for your permission, don't even start asking for theirs".

Re:Why not just call their company "NSAFront"?
Say what you will about Adrian, but his razor-sharp wit is absolutely hilarious. Check out his Q&A at Formspring.me where you can ask him anything (do it now!
:D). Unlike other whiny angry h4x0rs, the dude is an absolute geek comedian.
His candor is pretty refreshing and his comedy rebel streak is a bit reminiscent of Banksy.
Oh, and he's also to public face of 2600: The Hacker Quarterly on Facebook. -
Re:Easier solution - *.bank.se
you misspelled "Banksy"

Ads are not content.
Designed to act more like content than a typical ad,
This sure reads like an admission that ads aren't content (at least "typical ads").
My feeling on ads is nicely summed up by banksy: Any advertisement in public space that give you no choice
whether you see it or not is yours. It belongs to you.
It's yours to take, re-arrange and re-use.
Asking for permission is like asking to keep a rock someone just threw at your head. (emphasis mine) -
Re:Text of Short Story
Off topic, but... I really hate graffiti.
Have a look at this guy's work and see what you think.

Re:Not surprising - the games are coming up!
For the uneducated, might I recommend:

A legend in his own lunchtime. When I walk home at the end of a gruelling day in the City [London], I am greeted by one of Banksy's rats holding a sign that simply says "You lie!". Makes me chuckle everytime. -
Re:Sheesh, get over yourself
like when Duchamp presented a urinal at an art exhibition?
A better analogy would be presenting art where art was not expected, like what Banksy does. However defacting wikipedia with hidden lies is just not of the same quality at all- it's neither big nor clever, and doesn't open up any new genres of anything except lack of potty-training.
I think you're missing something.
No, I think you're missing something, like being on the receiving end of this kind of shit for long enough. -
So true...
...some of the stuff that Banksy does (http://www.banksy.co.uk) is absolute genius. He now gets commissions for doing works, has put on an art show (which prompted a rival tagger to scrawl "Banksy is a f**king sellout" over the entrance, which Banksy decided to leave there as people thought it was part of the show!).
One of my faves is this little ditty, yes its vandalism, but just look at it, it's damn funny! http://www.banksy.co.uk/outdoors/outdoors.html -

check out this dude - he's all artcrimey

Re:a link between
Or maybe some folks think that graffetti doesn't have to be a bad spray job that says "dave love's jessica" or "metallica rules!"
Have a look at the work of Banksy for graffiti with a message.

OT: Graffiti
Good artwork on that website. Shame about all the broken links and so on.
But nice to see some intelligent graffiti art amidst all the mindless scrawls. -
Re:Exactly what they want!
There's lots of graphiti-esque adverts 'round my part of the world (i'm vaguely near Hoxton/Shoreditch in London). I'm completely cool with small clubs or artists putting up "illegal" posters or spray painting things (cool examples: Banksy, the New Media Arse Media series, or the space invader tiles that I can't find the link to), but last summer a sportswear firm came and started spray painting their logo all over the place.
That pisses me off - they can afford to buy billboards (and, infact, do), so don't put your coroprate logo on the sidewalks - that's not cool and people see right through it. It's not edgey, it's not down with the kids. It's neither big not clever, and it just plain don't work.
Don't know if they used chalk paint, but, if they did, it's still there...
